I dont have any mates that like fishing like i do. But watching your vids makes me feel like you’re one of my best mates. I wish I could go on a fishin’ mission with ya
Mare, you will come to appreciate the quiet time you get to spend on the water alone eventually. I prefer fishing alone, without mate, most of the time. I get frustraated usually when I go out with people. It starts out with "Your handle's on the wrong side!" (it's not) to untangling the mess they somehow make and usually finishes with them whinging and not listening. There are a select few I enjoy fishing with.
Another great video to fill in a bit of my night shift mate. I remember an old bloke told me by putting a couple of shrimp on a hook facing each other will have them struggle against each other and make “shrimp noises” that attract the fish. It has logic to me. Take care mate.

@@robbiefishing spot on. Same with yabbies. When I was in Mildura this time last year we were getting heaps of yabbies, but couldn't get any fish on them as bait. I guess if we are served up the same food, day in, day out we would go off it as well.

Anywhere there is grass growing in the water or overhanging it is a great spot for them. if you've got a fine net with a sturdy frame you can rake it through vegetation and catch them that way. Either moving it side on through the plants or at the base and lift up, even in small streams which are fast flowing like you get in late summer will seem to have them hiding in there just doing their thing. But yeah, they seem to catch everything from carp to trout and every fish in between it seems

Then I chuck them in an aerator bucket, leave them in the car overnight and go fishing at sunrise the next morning. Oh and we call them shrimp here in SA too 🙂
We get the Paratya shrimp here in the upper Yarra River. They don't get very big. I've caught them and had them in aquariums. I got them using my Javalot and a small net at night time in the shallows. Their eyes glow red in the torch light. During the day, they hide underneath logs and leaves, so shady places are the best.
@robbiefishing the Yarra shrimp need salt water as in estuary's close to the ocean to breed but high up in the mountains where I am, they don't migrate to spawn. We don't get the long arm shrimp down here though.
We get them here in E QLD and usually it's a split between the smaller gelass shrimp or the larger macrobrachium rosenbergii types, just depending on where you are. The macrobrachium are usually about as big as your thumb, but if you head into FNQ and the NT you start seeing them as long as your pinky to palm and you can get a good feed out of them. They're killer bait as well. In some places they'll run out to 18 inches long.

i was going to reply to a comment but thought it would be better to leave one myself for this. on the debate of Prawn Vs Shrimp you hear a lot of different things, some people claim its based on size and small species are called shrimp and large species prawns, others will claim they in the freshwater they are prawns and in the saltwater they are shrimp, this is all kind of innacurate Taxonomists have come to the conclusion that there actually is no accurate way of determining what is a shrimp and what is a prawn and that the words are actually interchangable depending on a few factors (location/country would be one), shrimp and prawns are whats known as a common name and not a scientific name, so in scientific speak shrimp and prawn are not taxa (taxon) meaning they dont belong to any one group, a species that is refered to a shrimp can be in the same genus as a species called prawn for example in the Genus Penaeidae you have Tiger Prawns and white legged shrimp, the term shrimp and prawn has changed multiple times over multiple generations of people and now it really comes down to the person, i might call something a shrimp that you call a prawn. now when you get down to why it is called one thing in one place and another thing in the next place comes down to origin, the terms shrimp and prawn is British and they started to use the word shrimp for small and prawn for large, why they started this is unknown as the word shrimp is traced back to Germanic and has no reference to small and the word prawn hasn't been traced, because of this countries in the commonwealth will generally use this style of naming with Australia being an outlier, there is no real naming system in Australia when it comes to shrimp and prawns, we have mantis shrimp and mantis prawns, pistol shrimp and pistol prawns etc, size really doesn't matter, now in the US its gernerally believed that Shrimp come from salt water and Prawn come from fresh water, not really sure how this originated but its a good example of location determining how names are used. this is why i said those claims are "kind of" innacurate because saying something like "they are prawns in freshwater and shrimp in saltwater" is incorrect here in Australia but in the US that statement may well be viewed as correct. Sorry if thats confusing but for a TLDR is it a shrimp or is it a prawn? its inconclisive 😂

Freshwater are shrimp, saltwater are prawns, that is how I know them.
That's the correct answer
There are also freshwater prawns, it varies from species to species.
i was going to reply to a comment but thought it would be better to leave one myself for this.
on the debate of Prawn Vs Shrimp you hear a lot of different things, some people claim its based on size and small species are called shrimp and large species prawns, others will claim they in the freshwater they are prawns and in the saltwater they are shrimp, this is all kind of innacurate
Taxonomists have come to the conclusion that there actually is no accurate way of determining what is a shrimp and what is a prawn and that the words are actually interchangable depending on a few factors (location/country would be one), shrimp and prawns are whats known as a common name and not a scientific name, so in scientific speak shrimp and prawn are not taxa (taxon) meaning they dont belong to any one group, a species that is refered to a shrimp can be in the same genus as a species called prawn for example in the Genus Penaeidae you have Tiger Prawns and white legged shrimp, the term shrimp and prawn has changed multiple times over multiple generations of people and now it really comes down to the person, i might call something a shrimp that you call a prawn.
now when you get down to why it is called one thing in one place and another thing in the next place comes down to origin, the terms shrimp and prawn is British and they started to use the word shrimp for small and prawn for large, why they started this is unknown as the word shrimp is traced back to Germanic and has no reference to small and the word prawn hasn't been traced, because of this countries in the commonwealth will generally use this style of naming with Australia being an outlier, there is no real naming system in Australia when it comes to shrimp and prawns, we have mantis shrimp and mantis prawns, pistol shrimp and pistol prawns etc, size really doesn't matter, now in the US its gernerally believed that Shrimp come from salt water and Prawn come from fresh water, not really sure how this originated but its a good example of location determining how names are used.
this is why i said those claims are "kind of" innacurate because saying something like "they are prawns in freshwater and shrimp in saltwater" is incorrect here in Australia but in the US that statement may well be viewed as correct.
Sorry if thats confusing but for a TLDR is it a shrimp or is it a prawn? its inconclisive 😂
Yep shrimp for me Robbie here in sa.
