The past week’s Gamescom 2016 has been the perfect opportunity for journalists to discover Vampyr, the Action-RPG from DontNod, the creators of Life is Strange. The press had the chance to attend presentations made by the developers, and thus learn more about the game, its story and its gameplay mechanics.
We’re extending that invitation to those of you at home in the form of a 15 minute gameplay video of our pre-alpha version, showcasing some of the ideas that make Vampyr a unique gameplay experience, where the narrative is directly tied to the gameplay. Without any spoilers, our presentation begins a little after the beginning of the game. Now aware of being a vampire, our protagonist Dr Jonathan Reid must come to terms with what he has become, meeting some of the characters you will interact with along your journey - some of whom are aware of what you are, and also share the same affliction.
This video is taken from a pre-alpha version of the game, and while many aspects are still very early in their development process - notably the combat system - you’ll get to see many of the gameplay ideas currently being worked on.
Investigate the people of London, and peer through their bodies to see the quality of blood that flows through them. Perhaps you find a terrible person who you believe deserves to die, and decide to feed on him. But what if he suffers from poor quality blood? Perhaps a father - with no reason to lose his life - has the purest blood, and will therefore gain you greater experience points… your moral choices will directly affect the game world as you struggle to come to terms with your human/vampire duality.
Taking lives in London is not easy. Killing too many in a district may cause its infrastructure to collapse and turn into disarray. Every single life will also have a butterfly effect on the other NPCs surrounding them. Every life you take away will have consequences for the city and the people around them: Cursed be the choice!
Vampyr comes out on PlayStation 4 in 2017.

They nailed the atmosphere and tone but everything else looks so rough around the edges.

Anyone who knows what a real alpha looks like knows that this is not pre-alpha. They'd be stickfigures at best.

I think Remember Me had the potential to be good, but they messed up in so many areas. I liked diving into other people's memories and rewriting them.
Sometimes life is strange.
Environment looks descent, but character models and animations need serious work.
I am aware. Changes nothing, do not be naive pre-alpha is a Buzz word, clearly it works.

While I dont know about the models, the animations are usually placeholder until they are redone very close to the release build.

Amanda Anaya yet we've gotten this far without. and looking at this, it gives reason why. the voices are so terrible and poor, like just plucking developers and paying em overtime to do a few voices. then the lip syncing was way off, movements definitely didn't match the words. the npcs looked like they were trudging through mud, stiff as boards. the game looks really crally aside from good visuals, which doesn't make a game play good.
There is vampire the masquerade bloodlines. It is a pretty old game but amazing vampire game you get multiple types of vampires some with simple powers like mind control and super strength others with sick powers like the ability to make peoples blood boil before exploding. It's on steam for like $20 and is worth it. Just be sure to get the patch otherwise you could glitch out the ending

Well, it is pre-alpha. Very few games have spot on lip syncing. AC: Unity's was close to perfect, while Syndicate's was a tad worse.

Looks like a continuation of their work on Remember Me with a vampire theme plus more RPG elements and that might be really good especially to people who like vampire themed stuff (like me). Its also really good they did something narrative driven and generally different with Life Is Strange. I'd say DONTNOD Entertainment has a bright future ahead of them. Really looking forward to this.

Not rly into vampire stuff, would prefer a sequel to Remember Me, but I'm kinda interested in this game.
I love Monsters so I'm excited for this, hopefully it's good, but hey Remember Me though I'm not a fan of the combo button type style of combat, was cool, Life is Strange I loved, so I think it's safe to be hyped for this.

Because Konami managed to get the creator of Castlevania to leave, just like they managed to get the creators of Metal Gear and Silent Hill and almost everyone else who has any talent to leave because the CEO of Konami doesn't care about anything but money and has stopped Konami form trying to make good games, Konami now primarily make Pachinko machines and mobile games, if you are still interested in Castlevania I suggest you look up a game called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, it's a kickstarted game in development by the creator of Castlevania.

I watched this on my projector in a dark room and when the sun rose at the end the screen turned so bright i had to cover my eyes and hide from the light. Awesome if it was done on purpose
Why do I have the feeling that despite having all the powers of THE NIGHT I'll still be spending hours looking around dark dirty rooms trying to find four pieces of a key to a locked door made of moldy wood that a regular healthy human could just smash through?
I like this version of Vampyr way better. Danm shame they changed it when it came out.
From what I see so far I get the feeling of a mix of dishonored and bloodborne. I like the art style and theme, they definitely have this nailed down. However, combat is what's going to make or break a game like this. I suggest the devs take some more queues from Bloodborne as they work to improve the combat. What they need to do is improve mobility.
Saw in right hand, shotgun in the left. Yeah, Bloodborne jumped out at me for that and the overall gothic atmosphere. Looking forward to this game
Love the teleporting stuff but the actual melee combat looks a little stilted and awkward. I thought Remember Me had a lot of promising ideas but wasn't executed the way it needed to be, hopefully they've learned some lessons from that. Life is Strange was amazing, but a completely different type of game. Still, I love the concept of this!
For me, this demo worked because of its narrative elements: the environment, the art direction, the dialogue. Life Is Strange turned out so well because Dontnod really played to those strengths throughout, and I think Vampyr will succeed in that department as well. This should outweigh any potential weaknesses in terms of gameplay.
That being said, I don't expect Vampyr will be a game for the masses, so to speak. Just like Life Is Strange, it'll be picked up by the niche audience that can appreciate 'difficult' and complex magical realism narratives, but won't appeal to the average Joe.
MightyManotaur22 Amazing is a HUGE overstatement. I mean the storie is cliche(the lighthouse dream sequence is a MAJOR Alan Wake(a much better game) rip off, all the characters are cliche, and the MC is just boring and generic(even her voice is boring and lacks any energy at all).
I'm currently playing It and enjoying my experience so far but I'm quiet confused by the drastic graphical and stylistic changes from the final version.
How come the main character model, lighting or even the hud looked more polished in the 2016 pre-alpha?
This build looks more like the end product than the one we got. It almost looked like a AAA, seriously what happened??

i love the atmosphere of this game really much
Combat animations look awkward but general gameplay, while nothing new, looks decent. The main thing though is that it's a vampire game, which is something that definitely interests me and a lot of other people.
The vampire theme and Victorian setting really sell it for me, and knowing the Life is Strange crew is making Vampyr, the story won't be terrible. So that's reassuring :)
This game have a lot of potential. Nice graphics and atmosphere. The powers look great but the combat system looks awful. This game needs a better combat system and a lot of gore. If any of the developers are reading this comment please consider this constructive critic. Everyone have HI hopes for this game.

God. Do people really don't see 'pre-alpha demo' ugh please go away and play your CoD or whatever with the stiffness and bad combat. The game is not from a big company like Ubisoft or Square Enix. I myself am already loving this demo and hoping this game will show developers that vampire games are needed and not only zombie stuff..

PLEASE developers, take your time making this right and polishing every little nook and cranny. It looks like a lot of love, passion and hard work has gone into this title thus far. Don't ruin it by releasing it too early!

Why? The number of people that'll leave over this will pale in comparison to how much more Sony will make. That means they can then invest more money into the network so it can provide extra bandwidth and a more secure system.
I'm not saying this is a guarantee but those things take more money. Also, it might go towards better quality games that are "free" with PS+.

Thank God, an Vampire RPG for consoles that looks alright. I was too when Vampire RPGs like Vampire: the Masquerade and the Legacy of Kain series came out, so I won't miss this opportunity.
It's pre-alpha and people are saying it looks rough around the edges or the graphics suck. I understand giving feedback, but this is just obviously something that's going to be fixed as the game gets developed.
With quite a lot of polishing this could be an amazing game!
Here's hoping it doesn't pull an Andromeda with only minor tweaks in animations between pre and final gameplay.

Is not darker because is still dealing with his human nature and morality, that's why you can choose your victim (with or without familly, kill nice people with good blood-quality but you're a "monster" or bad guy with a bad-quality blood but it's more meh : acceptable you see) if the character is gave to you with already a darker side or good side your would feel less free of what to do in such situations, with this all is up to you, not because you're a vampyr you have to be dark-emo you know ^^
Plus he originally a doctor..... So it's hard to have a darker personality
Not sure who the developer is but I have 2 constructive feedback points while this is pre-alpha which *should* be fixed before released.
1. The lip sync is non-existant at the moment from what I saw. Maybe the animators could spend a week or two just refining it?
2. Suggestion: When he sucks the blood from his victim, have him use his coat to wipe the blood from his mouth.
I want to like it but the combat seems unfulfilling.

you need to bring elements of vampire the masquerade redemption to your game. the gameplay without vampiric magic is dull
A bit rough around the edges (horrible lip syncing, stiff animations) but overall seems good, sound/music is on point and the visuals are quite appealing.
Finally a new Vampire game

The studio's background indicates this will probably nail the storytelling/atmosphere and art aspects of the game. The gameplay or combat may be the weak or nonexistant parts. I'm sure it will be a solid game, personally disappointed because vampire games aren't really my thing. Maybe Dontnod will change that though. There hasn't been a 'good' vampire game that attracted a big following for a while, maybe this will be it
I like the fluid controls and how cutscenes are to the point and dont harass you all the time. Promising...

Really wanna try it. ALMOST as good as The Order in terms of detail. Looks like it has a nice little bit of mystery and darkness to it.

LyricalMasterMind1 I never said the gameplay. I said the *detail* as in the graphics, the surroundings, the environment. The Order had tons of detail thrown in. That was a compliment to this game to be able to get close to that while having what looks like a decent sized area to explore.

Such a shame about this game. I’m just playing it through again. Don’t get me wrong the game is great. But don’t expect the graphics and polish to be anywhere near what this trailer shows. It’s about equal to the difference between Aliens Colonial Marines trailer and the finished product.

The combat seems like fairly standard combat it actually reminded me of Witcher a bit. As long as the leveling and skill system is interesting and has depth the combat seems like a non issue to me maybe not spectacular but also not a negative.

I loved this game, but what I'm watching and what I bought are definitely not the same game. In fact this demo looks better..
in my opinion I think I preferred this version over the alpha gameplay,it just looks more realistic
