    Even the word wonderful, does not do justice to the beautifully shot and narrated film of this incredible man. Thank you very much

    Thanks, Steve, for uploading this wonderful piece of angling nostalgia. As a boy, I used to love watching Out of Town with dear Jack Hargreaves, and like tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of young people born in the 1950s, I developed a real love of the British countryside and its ancient traditions, and, also, what has become a life-long love of angling, through accompanying Jack, and also Bernard Venables' characters, Mr Crabtree and his son, Peter, who featured in Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing - A Guide In Pictures To Fishing Round The Year. I owe them, both, a very great debt of gratitude for introducing me to a sport that has given me so much pleasure during the past fifty-two years.
    It was absolutely wonderful to be able to watch Jack accompanying this dear old lad on his last day's fishing, and for the latter to be able to play and land - not just one, but two (because there is an extended version of this extract from this particular episode of Out of Town) Brown Trout, on the occasion of his hundredth birthday. What a lovely thing to have done for him, and a truly marvellous end to his fishing career. Thanks, once again, Steven , for sharing this with all of us who have watched this video and who have had our lives enhanced by it.

    One of the most beautiful fishing videos I've ever seen, and was brought up with jack and his fish and country living.

    This underpins the very essence of fishing.. Savour every moment on the bankside.. We could all learn from this. Thanks for uploading.

    Thank you for sharing such a beautiful celebration of a 100 years old fisherman. I think bringing in a trout rather than a salmon was a more appropriate thing to do as he looked a little tired that day. Truly amazing.

    Really enjoying these old films. Is this the whole piece or only part of a longer film? I'd love to see the whole thing if there is more. Thank you!

    That's what i mean, now we talking. Real flyfishing. People today have the wrong attitude. They think it has to do whit showing off with the most modern equipment, the newest material. These people can't enyoy the nature itself. They can't relaxing enough. It's all about narcisism today. You don't have to buy the latest stuff all the time, use what you have allready, until it's broken. Don't be the salesmens victim. You don't need so much stuff as you think. Forget the waders for a wile. Put on on regular clothing. Fish from land so long as you can with a longshafted net. Dont forget the flatcap. Be happy, be natural. 🎣

      Well considering this was broadcasted around 1980 /81 that would make him about 138 so I doubt it but I bet his shotgun is still in his wardrobe!!!!

      @@barryroach1980 Maybe pushing 150! I might be wrong, but I am guessing this film is from the early to mid-1970s. Jack Hargreaves' programmes were still on when I was a very young angler (early 70s), but I would guess that it would be over 30 years since Jack himself passed away.

      Things just seemed easier then didn't they @@@portcullis5622? I guess our age had something to do with it and no End Of Days Social Media!!!!!

    • @portcullis5622
      @portcullis5622 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barryroach1980 Thanks for the reply. Yes, things did seem easier. I had a lot less knowledge and skill, but a lot more time! I have been watching old fishing videos today as I was up early to go chub fishing, on a beautiful frosty, sunny, late autumn day. I even got as far as starting to reverse out of the drive, but was scuppered by car trouble! The frustrating thing is that the rivers are at a nice level, but thanks to work commitments, it will be nearly a week until I can get on a riverbank again (unless I go after dark)!

      Well @@@portcullis5622 I live outside Moscow in a region called kaluga, I'm lucky enough to have a nice river (about 6 meters wide) on my door step and a Gravel pit a 4 minute car drive away (as I'm a lazy chap) This morning I went to the river at 05:00 , it was - 7 water is still flowing in the middle channel but sides are already firming up with ice but I caught a rainbow trout on, wait for it, a piece of my dogs dried food.........first time for me!
