Files are so over looked when keeping tools in top condition. But a sharp clean file is so worth the time to take care of. One of those tools that nothing else will do when you need one. Thumbs Up!

You may not have noticed, but I’ve used this tool in several of my videos. Files do a good job, actually a great job and I think I will use them for a long time
      Thanks for watching.

Vinegar is a cheaper agent compared to a rust remover. But electrolysis is the cheapest. The effect is almost identical for all. There are some changes depending on the manufacturer. For simple workshops these are the best and cheapest ways to remove rust.

Dear sir, I own a couple of files which have the name " FIRM " and a logo of a light house or something like that and a date 1857. Can you please let me know the manufacturer of these files.
    Thank you.

      Hello
If you're wondering which file manufacturer I have.....it's Friedrich Dick. But if you thought I knew what files you have based on the information you gave me, I couldn't tell you exactly. I'm sorry.

    Do they cut any better?

    • @fastfixks

The files were not in a completely bad condition, but after the restoration they certainly cut better. I use them often, it can be seen in some of my videos. Thanks for watching.

Why you leave files in rust remover for 48 hours when one or two hours is plenty? Look how much carbon you remove from those 2 files in rust remover making them weak. 48 hours is ok when using vinegar but not rust remover. Also you damage teeth of file using steel wire wheel on bench grinder. If you going to use bench grinder then use brass wire wheel on file.

You are certainly right in everything, you seem to have great knowledge. but ...
I still use files today, they are not damaged yet and they serve well. This can be seen in my videos that I posted after this restoration.
Thanks for the comments, criticisms and suggestions. Of course, I will remember that and from now on I will do as you explained.
