I had a ton of TMNT toys as a kid and I also had Darkwing, Launch Pad, Megavolt and the Thunder Quack from that collection. I always thought how awesome it would be to get more villain figures from Darkwing because he had so many and wondered how they could pull off a figure of Liquiator. Little did I know that one was actually in the works and the mix and match body action feature for him, modeled after his liquid morphing ability on the show, was pure genius. I had also wanted a Nega-Duck figure and turns out he was in the works too with his big, flapping bill. A shame Disney pulled the plug before we could get those figures.
Modular Skeleton Warriors would have been amazing! Plus the paint schemes on that second wave are as awesome as that playset that you covered in a previous video. Man, that line had so much potential!
the skeleton warriors series 2 could be a best seller for sure... pity it wasn't produced. They were Gorgeous! Most of the villains of Toxic Crusader were indeed better for TMNT thanks to the insane details.. wish most of them were produced.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut same!!! indeed i've all the bad ones moc, but only Grimskull as good guy in the collection... The good ones were not that great in look
Bro i really really always wanting a quackerjack toy he was my greatest favorite character but playmates didnt sell them and i was so sad and i wish playmates brought them back.
Did anyone else picture Top Dollar's voice from The Crow movie shouting "ARE WE HAVING FUN OR WHAT?!?!" coming from that talking Cricket doll? Just me...OK, i'll see myself out.
Man, I would have loved to collect the Disney's Gummi Bears toyline. I loved those as a kid alongside Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers. Thanks for this video my friend. Even the Darwing Duck toys would've been nice to have. 👍
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Well, I had the MacDonald collectible yous from Chip n Dale, buy an official toyline, I think they had some figures. I might be wrong. I'll check.
Awesome research as usual Ed! Some third party company’s definitely need to make those unreleased toxic cRusaders and skeleton warriors. They are amazing!
Series 2 of Earthworm Jim particularly hurts, that is one line near and dear to my heart and the fact we never got a Prof. Monkey-for-a-Head or Queen Slug-for-a-Butt is an utter tragedy.
I remember seeing an interview/intro to a Toxic Avenger movie with Lloyd Kaufman where he had a figure of Mayor Belgoody on his desk but I've never been able to find it since.
For me, it was not having Talon released in the first wave of Skeleton Warriors that stopped me from buying them. Looking at that prototype original costume that would have been a great variant. Actually it would be cool if Mattel got the licence for Skeleton warriors and produced a set of toys in the MOTU Origins style. They would fit in that universe.
It almost seems that the other Playmates figure lines were all ideas they left on the floor for TMNT. Of those lines the Earthworm Jim lineup was great.
To answer your final question - i love to combine old school COPS figures with GI Joe Classified. I know the style is different but Beach Head's connection to Checkpoint is key, plus the fact the COPS were large o-ring based figures makes me enjoy them as 6" Joes in some ways.
Thanks for the updated video!! Always great to see new videos from you I would combine toxic avengers and some tmnt figures with my wwf figures as “special guests” for matches
My friends and I often did crossovers between TMNT and RGB. And on two occasions we had an epic crossover battle... TMNT, RGB, Aliens, Predator, Star Trek: TNG, Power Rangers, Super Human Samurai Syber-Squad, Dark Water, Toxic Crusaders and X-Men. The reason that epic only happened twice was because very few figures survived that one.
I’m a collector of ‘The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest’ figures from Galoob, the second wave (3 sets) only had a limited release, further sets were on the package but were unreleased, one unreleased figure was found in Japan, and I recently bought some unreleased still in box figures from Russia (it’s a big shock when I found them as I didn’t think they existed). It’s possible some other unreleased lines were released but can only be found in places like the Far East.
Thanks for the awesome video and information. Super7 will tackle more Toxic Crusaders stuff and I think Premium DNA will do Earthworm Jim stuff now. I didn't know that Playmates did Earthworm Jim. I loved that game. It was so much fun.
I owned a bunch of these different toy lines and loved them. The darkwing duck figures were really cool even tho they were very simple. Toxic crusaders was one of my favorite lines as a kid it had so much color and personality. They definitely worked very well with the turtles figures. TMNT was my first figure line obsession and I owned countless amounts of those. Playmates was killing it in the late 80s and early 90s. I never got into the earthworm Jim or skeleton warriors toys I was starting to phase out of them at the time. Loved the Jim games though.
My Transformer Apeface toy had a jet cockpit that fit Lego mini figures perfectly. I’ve made Lego explosive weapons and robots for G.I. Joe. I’ve even used a Slinky and some Silly Putty with Lego(s)
I’m a huge Godzilla and Nintendo fan. My son mix-and-matches those and I love seeing him put Mecha Godzilla against bowser, or Zora Link against Godzilla.
Awesome video man! Ah the good old days. Now it's funny with the internet how we can find all the information and back stories on all the cool stuff that could have been and now we know about it. I hate looking at cool ideas and toys that we wish existed and it got the axe! But it is interesting👍
When I was a kid I would take my GI Joes and my star wars figures and have them fight against each other lol. TMNT were the only playmates toys I had as a kid
Great video Ed! I was a huge fan of the short lived skeleton warriors toyline. I dont care as much for the more colorful prototyped 2nd wave, but would have gotten them regardless. They really needed the female character with the original lineup. Now its all just dust and bones in toy history. As far as mixing toylines go, toxic crusaders go perfectly with TMNT, but theres lots of KO MOTU toys, plus Black Star would mix well there. Captain Power is a futuristic looking GI Joe sized line. MIMP go fairly well with colored MUSCLE figs. Galoob Golden Girl are a great mix with She-Ra. Gobots mix with Transformers and dino riders, mask, and sky commander figures are all the same size and mix well. Last but not least, street sharks & extreme dinosaurs obviously hang out together in some multiverse.
I combined ALL my toys, with lots of imagination you can create a wonderful magical word where there are no limits. (I only had a few of each series) My Gi-joes fought alongside my Masters of the universe, and the even rode on my little ponies. My grandmother bought those because I once said I liked horses, and I just went with it, the brushes I never used, but because I never got any of the vehicles or not even battle cat, the my little ponies were used as transport for my figures. I didn’t get the vehicles, bigger pieces like battle cat or play sets because my parents said those were to expensive. Only 2 exceptions at my first communion I got a Cobra vehicle from an aunt of my mom, ever since that was my favorite aunt. And when I was seriously sick whit a severe case of salmonella and had to stay in the hospital I got a Gi-joe Tiger Force Quad and 3 Tiger force figures. And battlecat I once bought myself on a kids flea marked, whit out the armor though.
That’s awesome my friend and I also used to make a giant battle out of everything available to take over castle grayskull 🤣 we’d set up for hours and then when we could finally start the battlz it was time to go home
