For a second I almost thought I'd get a shout out when you mentioned MOTU contests & controversies. 😂 If you want to see what my concept was just look up "Gangstor". And yes, despite the controversy he is still an official MOTU character owned by Mattel.
Subbed almost immediately - you're entertaining, the content is entertaining, the editing is well done, and so is the presentation. BUT more importantly, I can tell you really have a passion for it, you genuinely care, and THAT is what makes you a great creator. I can't wait to see you get big. The nostalgia toy market for TH-cam hasn't been very mainstream yet, I can definitely see you being the first.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut I'd love to hear your take on it! I'm just a part time collector (too many interests!) but that's the only toy line I've made dedicated videos about and really gone in on collecting (other than LEGO)!
I don't think you mentioned it Ed (though you did show the figure while talking about customs), but Mattel did in fact release The Fearless Photog in the Masters of the Universe classics line (which is where they ran the contest where we got the Castle Greyskull Man you mentioned). So he actually DID get made... Just 30 years later. ;)
Speaking of consoles, while it never got to the prototype stage, there were early talks of Nintendo trying to make a deal with Nolan Bushnell's Atari to bring their Family Computer over Stateside. They were surprisingly pleased at how well the negotiations were going, until they heard the rumors that Bushnell only wanted the rights to the console and sit on it, preventing it from competing with their existing consoles. They quickly pulled out of the deal, and waited a few more years before trying to pitch the NES as we know it today. (I suddenly realize you likely know this and probably even have a video about it yourself)
Great video! Loved the mummies alive part as I am actively working on collecting that series. I did not know about the Fright feature Rath and Scarab. Though I did hear about the rest.
Great video, really interesting to see these toys that were so close to being released and just didn't make it across the line for one reason or another. If those Thundercat Beserkers had been released they would be in my collection right now for sure.
Good one mate! I really like the thundercats and mummies ones. Would have loved to play and collect them back in the dat and even still nowadays haha. Greetz Dre
I've been living your channel the last week!! Very nice!! Wasn't there a thundercats wing kit that went on line? I believe it was a Mexican commercial I saw it on
The mega mutants are my fav tmnt items. I think I’ll sculpt my own of that proto! It would also be nice if someone 3D scanned the proto and put it online to print.
There was a book in 1967 called The Adventures of James Bond Jr 003 1/2 about James Bond's nephew. Completely different character. James Bond has two nephews, both named James Bond Jr, despite having no brothers or sisters.
I never knew about the two Berserkers, but it kind of makes sense that there would be only 4 of them as there were only 4 mutants who were the main antagonist group (Mum-Ra being the real antagonist with most of others serving as his lackeys). However, it is possible that the two figures failed safety codes, as many toys with launching weapons were either banned or rendered inoperable. As far as the He-Man contest, I missed hearing about it and wasn't much of designer back then. Also, I would have wanted some new figures for older characters, such as a Man-E-Faces who had different alternate face or could have pieces added on.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah, He-Man and Skeletor have several variations, fitting for main character but disappointing to fans of supporting characters. The 80s cartoon showed Man-E-Faces with the ability to have different faces, and I always wanted that to be shown. Seriously, he is MAN-E-Faces not THRE-E-Faces.
Love the channel, man! Keep it up🤙🏻 Just saying if you could do a Beast Wars related video anytime in the future that would be AMAZING. .like unproduced beast wars figures etc...that was my FAVORITE toyline. Anyway...great videos and I cant wait for more. Have an awesome day, man!
Brainwave I can understand not being used as he looks way too much like The Leader from The Incredible Hulk, which was way before Masters of the Universe.
Ah, such a major😔bummer that they didn't make that ant🐜thingy for the Teenage🐢Mutant🐢Ninja🐢Turtles🐢line, because that thang looked fricking cool...👍🏼💯✔
I actually did enter the MotU design a character contest! I'm that old. I don't remember much about it, except the character had caster wheels instead of feet, and presumably was super fast. I can see why they wouldn't want it, though, as the figures had hard enough times standing up with flat feet, so one that couldn't stand on its own was no bueno. Sadly fitting that there wasn't a female crash test dummy toy, because from what I've read, they don't actually test for women in crashes. They have exactly one body type based on their idea of a stereotypical man, and that's it. No testing for shorter, taller, thinner, fatter, or any other body type than that. So you only get the safety rating listed if you're that size and build of a guy; anyone else is literally untested territory. Or so I've heard.
I have to say that i like the original Motu and Gj-Joe and so on..But i think Marvel has taken it to the next level with the upcoming Motu Origins figures, the articualtion is so much better now. I was also really impressed by the upcoming Gi-Joe Classified figures, the 6 inch figures look so much better than what they produced back in the 80's. Seems like action figures are having a little resurgance now which is cool to see.
The QuickJaws Prototype was painted quite well, I am not sure if I had the one in the catalog photo or another painted example. Either way it is a great part of Thundercats history.
"Create a character contest " back in that day I was to young to make a cool action figure now days I have a few cool characters I made myself one of my heman characters is called " manhe"
i was the wierd kid that really wanted figures from the Ace Ventura cartoon, the Dumb & Dumber cartoon, and a cartoon called Project Geeker that no one seems to remember. lol. I'm now an adult and i still would love to have figures of all those. Luckily, Neca recently announced that they are releasing a figure from the Ace Ventura cartoon, so that's awesome.

I'm still dissapointed that the Space Usagi line was never produced. It was supposed to be produced by Playmates but after Cartoon Network rejected the show, the line was cancelled.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut The show had Stan Sakai himself on it,it was pitched to Cartoon Network who turned it down due to TMNT's declining popularity in the late 90's and supposedly,Stan and Playmates had begun to design toys for the show but it all stopped when CN said no to the show.

I don't know if you have ever mentioned them, but could you do a video that includes the unproduced toys from the Inhumanoids series? I have seen the pictures of 2 rather large prototype monsters that made it into the cartoon but never onto store shelves.
My concept for MOTU figure is a Battle Cat in a humanoid form like the giants Tytus and Megator size. And instead of a saddle a backpack- like transport for He-man with 4 cannons and 2 missile throwers. A triple sword ( like Wolverine hand-blades) with one handle and a round shield with axe edge on both sides for Battle Cat. Just imagine that.

That Masters of the Universe classics Photog was an official release. I think all the designs in that competition were bad though!
If i drew a character for the contest of Masters of the Universe, it would be a Superman type character or a big orange buff Behemoth.
