I live close to the Ushiku Daibutsu (4th tallest on this list) and it's freakishly tall. When you drive towards it, it kinda remains hidden amongst the hills, and then it just suddenly pops up out of nowhere, towering over the forest beneath it. I can't even imagine how frightening the Statue of Unity must look from a distance, lol.

Смотрела научный фильм о статуях. "Родина мать" (Волгоград) считается самой сложной в мире из за динамики строения при ее габаритах. И так же является чудом инженерного дела. Многие в мире до последнего не верили, что такое возможно построить, т к вес распределен не по центру статуи а со смещением. А если еще учитывать что строили в прошлом веке, так тем более удивительно. Другие статуи гораздо выше и масштабнее, но они статичны и строятся грубо говоря как столбики, из за чего не имеют сложности в построении. Т е если строить по технологии столбиков можно построить еще выше.
Даже смешно называть это самой сложной, когда в видео постройки которым больше даух тывсяч лет, когда всё строилось простейшими механизмами без техники.

Очень сложные расчеты. Одно дело поставить и наращивать столбик, и другое - многоплановую фигуру с двумя поднятыми руками, с мечом и летящим за ее спиной плащом. И все эти разные по массе элементы находятся под разными углами к телу. Это какой же точный расчет надо было произвести, чтобы все находилось в идеальном равновесии. И какую сложнейшую работу при постройке самой статуи, чтобы ни на грамм, ни на миллиметр не отклониться от расчетов. А ведь тогда техника была далеко не такая, как сейчас. При виде летящего плаща я каждый раз думаю, как эта многотонная махина держится в воздухе, какой прочности сталь должна быть в арматуре, держащей на себе тонны бетона? А еще надо учитывать силу волгоградских степных ветров, особенно в феврале, как правильно написал здесь один комментатор. Там у постамента стоять - сдует, а на такой высоте это вообще ураган.

Проблема творений Церетели не в том, что они прям все плохие, а в том, что они установлены там, где им стоять не следовало бы. Нарушают архитектурно-исторический лендшафт, портят ощущение пространства и т.д. и т.п.

Arrange by year completed and you will see that all but one or two were completed after 1960. That list didn't include any from the US. I couldn't immediately find a list of the top 100, but found a video called "Top 100 tallest statues in the world 2022", which had two from the US: the "Statue of Liberty" and "Pegasus and Dragon". Not sure where you got 4 from. There were a few more on that list that were made before 1960, but not many. The vast majority of the tallest statues are no more than 60 years old.
No, it wasn't that hard. The uploader confirmed that they simply rebuilt one-to-one replicas by hand instead of trying to source and move the original statues for the shot!

Oh, man, the number of ways Mt Rushmore is a disappointment goes deeper than you think. Despite its fame, it was really just a vanity project by some prima donna that was originally going to feature a bunch of "Wild West (Hollywood) legends." He swapped in Presidents to get national funding, and never even finished the project. And it was carved out of native land, instead of using any of a billion other mountains we have lying around. Я из Волгограда, побывать на Мамаевом кургане это очень волнительно, интересно, родина- мать впечатляет своим величием. А еще у нас в Красноармейском районе есть Ленин высотой 27 м.
Здесь, кстати, ее макет несколько карикатурно выглядит. Платье внизу не так развевается. Схалтурили создатели ролика. Или 3Д-модели какие-то странные им попались.
Родина-Мать стоит на очень приличной высоте, плюс динамика придает бОльший размах. А церетелевское недоразумение стоит просто на уровне реки, карикатурное, неуместное и нелепое, как и всё в Москве по вкусу Лужкова. Просто нагромождение.

Родина-мать, величайший памятник архитектуры!! Самая сложная и паразительная композиция. Статуя живая, динамичная, предельно сконцентрированная на движении!! Сложнейшая инженерная работа!! Она живая. А строить истуканов совсем не трудно. Складывай как кубики и все.
Как увидел лося, не понял сразу, что это статуя, думал для сравнения лося поставили, потом подумалл, что для лося очень большой, может это какой-то доисторический лось, но увидев второго, понял, что в Канаде стоит огромная статуя лося 😄
Ладно, это статуи и очень милые. А вот что меня в детстве поразило, была как-то по ТВ передача про Австралию. Так у них там стоят огромные корова, свинюшка и еще какое-то животное, и в них устроены музеи. Я была так разочарована и мне сразу расхотелось ехать туда, потому что у бедняжек даже нет нормальных музеев и приходится строить огромных хрюшек.

Just for add info to people interested on this statue, "Guerrero Chimalli" was created by Enrique "Sebastian" Carvajal, beginning in 2009 and finished on 2014. This statue represents a mexican warrior of old times, who is carrying a "Chimalli", a type of shield.
Without any context, I still think "The Motherland Calls" with its dynamic and striking pose is the most beautiful one. I also like the Lincoln one, but it's more because I like Lincoln.
I had never even heard of most of these, so this is educational as well as interesting, Each one that came up, my brain was saying "There can't be a bigger one than THAT" and every time, I was wrong. There are some BIG statues in Japan!

Снести нафиг. Понаставили памятников какому-то додику, который развалил империю и заложил бомбу под русскую государственность, последствия взрыва которой мы до сих пор разгребаем на западных окраинах. А правил то он всего каких-то 6 лет. За 6 лет понаставил себе памятников и ушёл в забвение. The "laying buddhas" and "laying Shivas" and "laying Vishnus" are not anywhere near as big as the smallest thing in this video, they're about 50 feet long at the longest. The sphinx would make them look like dwarves.
Having done 3D animation in the past, it amazes me that they have modeled all of these statues. That would have been an incredible amount of work to do just one of them in my day.

Our Lady of the Rockies, a statue of Mother Mary, in Butte Montana is 90’ tall. Not the biggest, but there is a good story behind it. The statue was first imagined by Bob O'Bill in 1979 during a time when his wife was seriously ill with cancer. O'Bill decided he would build a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe if his wife would survive. His wife did recover. He began the project and eventually built a 90-foot mountaintop statue.

I was hoping Athena Parthenos in Nashville would be included. It is the largest indoor statue in the US, and a full size reproduction of the lost original in the Greek Parthenon (and it sits inside the full scale Parthenon reproduction here in Nashville). This is probably my favorite of all the size comparison videos. That last shot at 7:59 is a real show stopper. The Statue of Liberty is so small that it doesn't even appear in the final group. We think of it as massive, but it's relatively small by comparison.
You missed the Ganesha statue in Chachoengsao, Thailand. Built in 2012. The construction of this bronze Ganesh statue was started in 2008 and was completed in 2012. The statue is 39 meters (almost 128 feet) tall .

Смотрела научный фильм о статуях. "Родина мать" (Волгоград) считается самой сложной в мире из за динамики строения при ее габаритах. И так же является чудом инженерного дела. Многие в мире до последнего не верили, что такое возможно построить, т к вес распределен не по центру статуи а со смещением. А если еще учитывать что строили в прошлом веке, так тем более удивительно. Другие статуи гораздо выше и масштабнее, но они статичны и строятся грубо говоря как столбики, из за чего не имеют сложности в построении. Т е если строить по технологии столбиков можно построить еще выше.
Вы еще наверх поднимитесь и ощутите силу ветров Волгоградских степей, особенно в феврале
Даже смешно называть это самой сложной, когда в видео постройки которым больше даух тывсяч лет, когда всё строилось простейшими механизмами без техники.

Очень сложные расчеты. Одно дело поставить и наращивать столбик, и другое - многоплановую фигуру с двумя поднятыми руками, с мечом и летящим за ее спиной плащом. И все эти разные по массе элементы находятся под разными углами к телу. Это какой же точный расчет надо было произвести, чтобы все находилось в идеальном равновесии. И какую сложнейшую работу при постройке самой статуи, чтобы ни на грамм, ни на миллиметр не отклониться от расчетов. А ведь тогда техника была далеко не такая, как сейчас. При виде летящего плаща я каждый раз думаю, как эта многотонная махина держится в воздухе, какой прочности сталь должна быть в арматуре, держащей на себе тонны бетона? А еще надо учитывать силу волгоградских степных ветров, особенно в феврале, как правильно написал здесь один комментатор. Там у постамента стоять - сдует, а на такой высоте это вообще ураган.

Проблема творений Церетели не в том, что они прям все плохие, а в том, что они установлены там, где им стоять не следовало бы. Нарушают архитектурно-исторический лендшафт, портят ощущение пространства и т.д. и т.п.

@@Catalyna Just looked at the Wikipedia article "List of tallest statues", which currently lists the 47 tallest in the world. Arrange by year completed and you will see that all but one or two were completed after 1960. That list didn't include any from the US.
I couldn't immediately find a list of the top 100, but found a video called "Top 100 tallest statues in the world 2022", which had two from the US: the "Statue of Liberty" and "Pegasus and Dragon". Not sure where you got 4 from.
There were a few more on that list that were made before 1960, but not many. The vast majority of the tallest statues are no more than 60 years old.

I always imagined Mt. Rushmore to be drastically massive. I was shocked to see it was on the low end of the list!
I thinks it’s cause they said they don’t count the base so most of the mountain would be removed for this.
Oh, man, the number of ways Mt Rushmore is a disappointment goes deeper than you think. Despite its fame, it was really just a vanity project by some prima donna that was originally going to feature a bunch of "Wild West (Hollywood) legends." He swapped in Presidents to get national funding, and never even finished the project.
And it was carved out of native land, instead of using any of a billion other mountains we have lying around. Because of course it was.

A common consensus when visiting Mt Rushmore (and I speak from personal experience as well) is that it's smaller than imagined.
I still found it worth going to see when I was a teen. But I found all the bikers in the region for the Sturgis festival even more interesting.

Как увидел лося, не понял сразу, что это статуя, думал для сравнения лося поставили, потом подумалл, что для лося очень большой, может это какой-то доисторический лось, но увидев второго, понял, что в Канаде стоит огромная статуя лося 😄

Ладно, это статуи и очень милые. А вот что меня в детстве поразило, была как-то по ТВ передача про Австралию. Так у них там стоят огромные корова, свинюшка и еще какое-то животное, и в них устроены музеи. Я была так разочарована и мне сразу расхотелось ехать туда, потому что у бедняжек даже нет нормальных музеев и приходится строить огромных хрюшек.

@@w415800 It's pretty permanent, it's attached to a huge framework. It has a steel frame with carbon fiber plating. A good comparison might be those Chuck E. Cheese mascot animals; it has some limited movement, lights, and sound. I suppose you could call it a puppet instead of a statue!

Just for add info to people interested on this statue, "Guerrero Chimalli" was created by Enrique "Sebastian" Carvajal, beginning in 2009 and finished on 2014. This statue represents a mexican warrior of old times, who is carrying a "Chimalli", a type of shield.

В Волгограде не только Родина Мать зовёт, также здесь памятник В.И. Ленину, который занесён в книгу рекордов Гиннеса, как самый большой в мире памятник, установленный реально жившему человеку. Общая высота монумента составляет 57 метров. Высота скульптуры - 27 метров, постамента - 30 метров.
Снести нафиг. Понаставили памятников какому-то додику, который развалил империю и заложил бомбу под русскую государственность, последствия взрыва которой мы до сих пор разгребаем на западных окраинах. А правил то он всего каких-то 6 лет. За 6 лет понаставил себе памятников и ушёл в забвение. И именно за его тщеславие и за всё то, что он натворил с землицей русской его проклятое тело теперь и не предают ей.

This was amazing. I know there's a lot of "laying Buddhas" so they won't be tall, but they are massively long. I wonder how they compare if they were standing up.
The "laying buddhas" and "laying Shivas" and "laying Vishnus" are not anywhere near as big as the smallest thing in this video, they're about 50 feet long at the longest. The sphinx would make them look like dwarves.

Well a statue would occupy less land space if its vertical, so I have a feeling that the laying statues will be much much smaller.

Having done 3D animation in the past, it amazes me that they have modeled all of these statues. That would have been an incredible amount of work to do just one of them in my day.

The raw materials and engineering to make these statues or structures is amazing.
The older ones, all stone, that's impressive. The newer ones, concrete and steel rebar, there's nothing impressive about that.

Only it takes less than 100 years for that to happen, so it needs constant maintenance in order to continue existing as it is. That is not impressive. Stone structures and monuments can last tens of thousands of years with little to no maintenance, that is far more impressive.

Existing software suite, lining up downloaded models, entering parameters for the camera track. Most time was probably spent on copy pasting the texts and finding the flags. It's still a nice and interesting video, but why the need to suck the creators dick by pretending it took months or something. Just because you have no clue, doesn't mean others are wrong.

The statue was first imagined by Bob O'Bill in 1979 during a time when his wife was seriously ill with cancer. O'Bill decided he would build a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe if his wife would survive. His wife did recover. He began the project and eventually built a 90-foot mountaintop statue.

Здесь показали всемирно известные. А про статую Ленина в Волго-Дронске знают в основном те, кто живёт в Волгоградской области, ну может ещё кто-то. Скорее всего, по всему миру есть ещё такие исполины, которые неизвестны широко,так сказать, местного значения и автор не внёс их в свою подборку, он о них тоже не знает.

I was hoping Athena Parthenos in Nashville would be included. It is the largest indoor statue in the US, and a full size reproduction of the lost original in the Greek Parthenon (and it sits inside the full scale Parthenon reproduction here in Nashville). As others have noted, having the date of creation would be interesting.

The list is missing the "Christopher Columbus Statue" which is in Puerto Rico, and its taller than the Statue of Liberty without the base. It is also the companion piece of the one in Seville, Spain "Birth of a New Man" from the same artist.

It's not an exhaustive list. There are a lot of statues in between the ones mentioned that were left out.

This is probably my favorite of all the size comparison videos. That last shot at 7:59 is a real show stopper. The Statue of Liberty is so small that it doesn't even appear in the final group. We think of it as massive, but it's relatively small by comparison.

You missed the Ganesha statue in Chachoengsao, Thailand. Built in 2012. The construction of this bronze Ganesh statue was started in 2008 and was completed in 2012. The statue is 39 meters (almost 128 feet) tall .
