I think it just needed to be a little faster. It was sold as being super fast in a straight line but that's it. Other types of performance weren't even really talked about. Also 250mph makes this car the 10th or 15th fastest road car ever, which isn't a good marketing headline. @@justinbocchino5141 yea, they really need to make a speedtail to match the power of it's looks. i wouldn't be surprised if this car hits 300mph+ with a engine making 1500+hp
The McLaren Speedtail is slower than an “equally powerful” Bugatti Veyron for this reason: The speedtail only has around an 800hp engine. The electric motor in the car adds the extra 200hp, but only for short bursts during acceleration. The high voltage battery will be depleted long before the speedtail reaches 250mph, so by the time the car reaches that speed it’s only producing around 800hp, not the full 1000hp.
Hybrids are good for the track, not for top-speed run If they used a 1000hp pure IC engine, it would have broke records like it's predecessor, the legendary F1
The new Ford GT is aerodynamic enough to be featured in this video, but what about the old one? It also looks quite aerodynamic-y, right? (Except for the big-ish vents behind the doors, obviously)
Eh, probably not. That’s likely more gimmick than helpful. I forget where, but I’ve seen an explanation that tilting the wing can unsettle the car in corners.

Veyron back by VW by millions of dollars (Bugatti is actually losing millions at $3 mil for one car, but VW rich enough) and the W16 is just using brute force. With enough power, you can do just about anything in terms of straight line speed.
@@the-nm7sd you sure? I think you may of been playing too much forza. Just adding more power wont make a car substantially faster, yea it will make it faster, but to go 250 needs slippery aero and less weight. Your car isnt very aerodynamic. Look at a bugatti veyron, it needs 1001hp WITH all the aero to even THINK about going 250+
Sorry but no. The Speedtail is already reportedly quite unstable at its top speed. It would need extensive bodywork upgrades to reach 300mph without being a tumbling fire ball. The Bugatti Super Sport and Jesko Absolut show that rather nicely. And even the Bugatti, the only car to have reached 300mph was reportedly rather unsettled at such speed, and it's exceptionally wide and heavy, giving it inherently more stability.

I recall reading somewhere that the Speedtail has a lower top speed than the Veyron because of the gearing... It accelerates significantly harder, so that's what they say they were going for. But I get the distinct impression that the main reason they didn't give it some taller gears was because VW won't share Ehra Lessein with anyone else and there's not really anywhere else in the world where you can really wind them all the way out safely. The F1 was the last time VW is sharing, which isn't very sporting.
They could've added one final, super looong gear to use the potential of that streamlined body. And as for Ehra Lessein, just go to Nevada where Koenigsegg tests their top speeds.
During the 60's or the 70's a small racecar participated in Le Mans. It was so aerodynamic (and light) that its engineers had to add wings to ensure stability in the Mulsanne straight (to avoid the car to take off). Its Cd was about 0.18 (officially under 0.20 but nobody knows, some people claim it's at 0.16)
I though I would see the Alfa Romeo BAT series... Also I would mention the Opel Calibra, because Opel produced a nearly prototype efficient car with 4 comfortable seats, fuel economy and sport performance for an average budget. Just incredible! Some other I could remember: Chrysler Airflow, Alfa Romeo Aerodinamica (1917), Hispano Suiza Dubonet...
I must be stupid or something, because Grid Legends made me fall in love with the looks of the Valkyrie. Edit: Also surprisingly the extra aero stuff on the new GT3 RS makes car look even more badass than the RS models before it.

I had to pause the video and make this comment because you called the AM Valk ugly. You call that uglier than the T.50? Really? I mean you are the first person who I hear call that thing ugly. If u want ugly aero, look at the McLaren Senna. THATS ugly. The Valk is what a hypercar should look like! Absolutely beautiful. Wide arches, and the fenders over the wheels curve so nicely, it's like, for a lack of better comparison, a woman's thighs. The cockpit itself is like a teardrop shape, surrounded by the rest of the body, which only widens the car to allow for better stability, just like how the wings and the body of a jet seem to form around it's cockpit. And when you view it from straight ahead or straight behind, you see the beautiful venturi tunnels that wraps around the car, bringing attention to the cockpit once again, which even more obviously looks like a center piece now. And at the tail of the teardrop center piece, the exhaust pipe meets with the air coming from over the car and under the car via diffuser. And you're reminded that that's not just the cockpit, it's the housing for the heart of the car as well, the Cossworth V12.
That topic is impossible. If a car isn't aerodynamic, its purpose is probably something completely different, so they'll never even test the drag coefficient. How to make a list of cars that have never been tested? It'd be like Top 7 best-selling concept cars.
