Hope this video helps the people looking for some inexpensive laptops. If you need to get something even cheaper (like $300 or less) buy a chromebook, not a windows laptop. Thanks for watching my stuffs!
shit dude you made me look at my own lenovo laptop and almost made me cry when I realized it doesn't have the lighting icon and I'm stuck with this laptop for another year... My acer laptop was shitty in every aspect, but at least it had backlighting (and touch screen: if you spend a lot of time lying down while reading shit on the internet, once you've tried scrolling using a touch screen it's hard to go back)
shook cheap means, very affordable. There are tons of "cheap" laptop out there, and these laptops were midrange and not cheap. It's cheap on dave's point of view but definitely it does not fit in to everybody who categorized it as cheap. You call 700$ laptop cheap? Come on. 200$ laptop is cheap
@@belisariusthemagnificent504 sources? These are laptops not fucking cancer research. Cheap laptops in that price range use cheap parts, simple as that.
My top 2 cheap laptops: 1. Thinkpad X220 2. Thinkpad X230 Both can be found very cheap used (under 200 usd, eur etc) and easy 10 hours of battery if you get a new 9 cell.
No, absolutely not. As myrang3r said, Thinkpads are known for reliability. Their keyboards are even waterproof. It should expect to last for at least 5 years (I have a Thinkpad made from IBM which is 15 years old and still working). You will not regret to buy one.
Y'all complaining about these not being cheap. Come on. These are cheap compared to the entire market of laptops. If these really aren't cheap for you, you gotta make the bread to buy these.
I have an Acer Nitro 5 and it works perfectly for school purposes as well as gaming. The Acer aspire 5 can’t handle any games I play (Forza, Overwatch, PUBG) but the Acer Nitro 5 can. I recommend the GTX 1050 with the 1TB hard drive for a school laptop. There is also a 2 in 1 variant of this laptop called the Nitro 5 Spin that has the same capabilities as the Nitro 5.
Acer? Neh, their laptops are made of glass. Consider it as a glass cannon, powerful but fragile. Lenovo "non-Thinkpad" series (e.g. yoga, ideapad, etc) is a bit better, but still not quite durable. If I'm choosing it, I will either choose a XPS or a Thinkpad, you can expect to use either one for at least 5 years. In fact, if IBM was still making Thinkpad, it will be much better. I have a IBM Thinkpad which is at least 15 years old and still freaking working!!!!!!
Yep, and they got sued because of it. Technically, the word "malware" is not so accurate, the more accurate description is sending your PC's info to the Lenovo without asking or notifying you. Many company and software actually do that (check all the apps you have in your phone) except they ASK before doing that.
Thinkpad... Thats when Lenovo was part of the IBM branding. Agree though that the Thinkpads were very well put together! I think I've still got one knocking around somewhere with a pop up keyboard when you open the screen.
so get a think pad? i currecnly own a lenovo y50 i want something lighter and just as fast. i dont game anymore so im lacking use for it, i want something i can code with, thats nice small and fast.
Protipp for students: Buy used. Look for shops specializing on reselling what companies stopped using. You can get a Thinkpad that fulfills all your needs for a couple hundred bucks.
I've been using a used Lenovo Thinkpad T400 that I dropped $150 on for College. $50 for the 9 cell battery. Debian 9 for an operating system with i3wm. Can compile LaTeX documents, code, play 720p60fps video, and browse the internet. Literally all I need to do. Best decision ever. I dropped it twice and cracked the bezel but it still works. 9 Cell battery lasts for 5 hours (because the Linux kernel so far doesn't seem to be good at power management). Hard drive can be taken out by undoing 1 screw so I can upgrade with ease. It's nowhere near as fast as a modern laptop but really for academics and anime it's more than enough. Used Thinkpads are the best option for financially challenged students. With $700 you can get a used Thinkpad for $150 bucks and put the rest of that money towards a halfway decent desktop for when you need more power.

I have been recently using Acer's aspire 3, it's latest version, it comes for around 400 bucks. It has got AMD Radeon Vega graphics card and AMD Athlon chipset and I can assure that you can do anything with it(what students need to do) and also gaming and it will run them all very smoothly. It's really a steal!!!
Personally, I prefer a desktop + a chromebook ( as a student ), i have really bad selfcontrol so if i had a pc that could play games i woulf fail all my classes xD
below 1000USD for me. Even as a student, I feel this is justified. Don't skimp on a device that you'll be using for 4 years or more (depending on the course). Make sure it can take a beating as you'll be carrying it everywhere, rain or shine, hot or cold.
ThinkPads are the way to go! Check out an X220/X230--sub $300 and probably twice as durable as any of the laptops in this vid. You can comfortably hit 8+ hours with a fresh 9-cell.
Finally someones giving relatively cheap options.Honestly 600$ is not exactly cheap for a student but kind of affordable compared to the 1k and 1,2k laptops other youtubers gave out as "options"
I am seeing all of these videos about school/light gaming laptops that are a bit overpriced. I see all of these major reviewers looking at laptops from Lenovo, Acer, etc and they all cost somewhere between 600 to 700 bucks for a good "gaming" laptop. After researching a bit I found the Eluktronics W650KK1. The base model comes with a Desktop PentiumG4560 (Yes you read desktop correctly) and a GTX 1050TI. (you can upgrade the processor if you want or just buy the i7 but that cost a little much. It is still cheaper than most 1050ti laptops though with the I7). This laptop costs a little over $650. It can support 3 hard drives (NVME, SSD, HDD). So my question is, why has no one shed any light on this laptop??
boostgearXD Very few shops sell it and it isn't available in a lot of countrys. Therefore only few people know of its existence wich really is a shame since it has amazing price/performance for a laptop. It also is sold under different branding. In my country it is sold as the Clevo W650KK1. "Eluktronics" is just branding. Im also a little bit surprised that it isn't really sold under other (more popular) brands like other Clevo barebones.
Is $600 really not cheap? No matter the laptop it's supposed to be a long term investment. Anything less won't last a long time and is just a waste of money.
Thanks a lot for suggesting this - I was looking for a mid range college laptop that runs some games but does look like a horrible gaming machine and never found one... Until i saw this comment - I bought a vivobook s15 about a month ago (after i saw this comment) and its an amazing laptop!

I'm sorry, I love you Dave, but this video just shows me just how out of touch tech TH-camrs are about pricing. There is no way a 500-600 dollar laptop can be considered "inexpensive". It may be because I'm South African and our living standards are a lot lower than you Westerners, but I feel like most university students my age would consider these to be pricey laptops.
I am sorry to you but if you are looking for a laptop to watch movie, listening music and browsing internet then there are cheaper laptops than these. I am also from Nepal and 5000-600 dollar is not inexpensive here :) People look for more cheaper laptop like 200$ and 300$. But As I am a student ;) Lesser specs than these is not going to work around for me. So I believe these are really the cheapest laptop. and yes there are cheaper laptops but why would I bother with laptop while I have a phone that costs me about 50 bucks and I can do almost everything with that. I even make my PowerPoint presentation on my phone. Because if anyone who is going for less than 6th or 5th Gen processor and 8 GB RAM is just looking a laptop for browsing internet watching videos and listening music and I would recommend to those people not to waste their money on laptop. go get a better phone.
He said the Lenovo has no backlighting but in fact, it does, You press function and the space bar. It literally has a light symbol on the left side of the spacebar and my friend has the same laptop and it has backlighting.
I'm a Computer Software Engineering student and have had a 400$ laptop for more than 3 years, 1080p with touchscreen. I have developed games and I play games on it. My laptop's keyboard also has a NUMPAD! and is backlit. Got surprised by those prices for those specs, Lenovo's laptops are getting expensive like others.
@@madturkey4985 usually students don't just have the time to work and go to uni, and thus don't really have an income. When you have no income, you can't pay 700 bucks for a laptop. Simple as that.
The Lenovo one looks like it does have a back light. The icon on the spacebar indicates that if u press the Function key with the spacebar, the light will turn on.
For those who are watching that don't understand the difference between a cheap and expensive laptop, $500 is a great price for the list he provided for you. Specifications of laptops are becoming more advanced meaning you can get really good laptops for cheaper nowadays. Cheap in the sense of laptop tech is under $600 with specs such as: - Intel i5 or 7th/8th Gen core processors - 8GB RAM - SSD (128GB/256GB) - A good graphics card (if you're lucky) Would love a laptop that is portable, cheap and has great performance.
Hope this video helps the people looking for some inexpensive laptops. If you need to get something even cheaper (like $300 or less) buy a chromebook, not a windows laptop. Thanks for watching my stuffs!

Because if anyone who is going for less than 6th or 5th Gen processor and 8 GB RAM is just looking a laptop for browsing internet watching videos and listening music and I would recommend to those people not to waste their money on laptop. go get a better phone.
@@MelodySenseNepal you have a point. I just wish decent laptops good start at a lower price
Are you actually kidding me? $600 is the cheapest you can go if you want a laptop that is actually useable by a student.
and i wish decent cars would start at a lower price, like 100$ but guess what, thats not how money works.
Does anyone know the Intro music he uses?

*looks at dimensions* “In English please.”
He said the Lenovo has no backlighting but in fact, it does, You press function and the space bar. It literally has a light symbol on the left side of the spacebar and my friend has the same laptop and it has backlighting.
Are these laptops still good for 2019?
no
Update please !! 😭😭😭😭😭
I'm a Computer Software Engineering student and have had a 400$ laptop for more than 3 years, 1080p with touchscreen. I have developed games and I play games on it.
My laptop's keyboard also has a NUMPAD! and is backlit.
Got surprised by those prices for those specs, Lenovo's laptops are getting expensive like others.
very nice....review.nd ....video..
damn hmu Indian
I love how you think that a student can afford to spend $600 on a laptop
Maybe you should start to think about "how to make money" instead of "how to save money"
@@madturkey4985 Your comment makes zero sense. We're talking about students, not lazy unemployed 30 year olds
Fede Rico Being a student is no excuse for not making money. If you want something make it happen. I am student too btw.
@@madturkey4985 usually students don't just have the time to work and go to uni, and thus don't really have an income. When you have no income, you can't pay 700 bucks for a laptop. Simple as that.
@@goJesusandStarcraft I highly doubt that a 600 laptop will last you 4/5 years. Battery degradation will kill it faster than you think.
I bought a $500 laptop with i3 and 8gbram and 1tb plus full screen
idk why im watchin this i have the ROG scar strix II lmfao
Nobody cares lmao
Weird flex but ok
@@royops5719 ur just broke lol
The Lenovo one looks like it does have a back light. The icon on the spacebar indicates that if u press the Function key with the spacebar, the light will turn on.
Im using used MacBook Pro (230$)

Sept 2/2018 watching this after a perfect 1 year anyone else?
I can buy a 200$ on 1 year installment
For those who are watching that don't understand the difference between a cheap and expensive laptop, $500 is a great price for the list he provided for you. Specifications of laptops are becoming more advanced meaning you can get really good laptops for cheaper nowadays. Cheap in the sense of laptop tech is under $600 with specs such as:
- Intel i5 or 7th/8th Gen core processors
- 8GB RAM
- SSD (128GB/256GB)
- A good graphics card (if you're lucky)
Would love a laptop that is portable, cheap and has great performance.
How did my recommended know that I'm poor?
Your profile pic fits this comment perfectly lol
Hey Dave can you do a updated version of this?
This dude is the chillest ever
Plz review Hp envy 13T 2017
If you need a Windows laptop below this, buy refurbished or used. A 4 to 6 year old high end laptop is going to be around 300$
