Outstanding and through insight. I learned a lot about your business and I am planning a trip to see you very soon. We have maybe two dedicated men's hat stores left in Baltimore. I have always worn a cap for leisure and a hat either for protection against the elements or to make a fashion statement. For me, leaving the house without a hat is like forgetting my underwear! Thanks for keeping the hat industry thriving.

Hey brotha Kevin, I have an odd shaped head. Very long and narrow. My cephalic index is 66 or so. When I’ve tried on hats in the past they put in some inserts on the side but it still seems tight on the forehead. Any way to steam/ shape a hat to fit my odd shaped head?
They just sold it to you wrong, no amount of padding on the sides does a thing. U needed more room in front. You needed to buy the hat bigger, they were newbs. Padding the sides does nothing, we have a huge gap on the side. It’s natural. Your head isn’t odd, it was just more oval than that hat, u need to take the Reed out of the leather sweatband, or just cut the Reed. I have videos showing how. Then… hand stretch the hat front to back, over your chest, and over your knee. Only lengthwise, forget the sides..the stretching won’t work until u cut the Reed. After u cut it, u start stretching over your knee and across the chest, every day, like it’s exercise, do it ten times…every day, or more, it’ll take a few days, .. but watch these videos first. th-cam.com/video/LzAN1D2dF2Q/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/0p3MZzWAxMo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/v1MlmrTeEQI/w-d-xo.html Take the padding out. Watch these vids, when u understand how to do it, cut the Reed, and then start stretching by hand, over the knee, across the chest. Alternate, carefully, increasing pressure, no fast jerking, go slow, increase tension..over and over for a few days..
Www.porkpiehatters.com Or jjhatcenter.com We are selling hats in NYC since 1911 I'm there for 20 years and I've done it over email and phone many times, and nail it most of the time.. a photo of u helps me, and knowing what kind of vibe u are looking for.. Thesqueezebox1 that’s a custom made fur felt hat from Canada, by a fantastic company called Magill The model is called “The Untouchable” it comes in black, also a beige-camel color, and a steel blue. the untouchable has a silk-Beaver Finish, so it has a medium long hair texture, like the old Superfly hats of the 70’s, but not as fuzzy, it has a silky shine, like a subtle gloss to the finish..that’s the “silk finish”. The black is really killer. Super crazy thick felt, will withstand some of the worse weather of any other dress hats, the Beavers like that last forever.. www.jjhatcenter.com or just google “ JJ Hat Center the untouchable ” ..It’ll pop up.
Is there a way I can email you for a suggestion of hat you sell at the store or find a similar hat I'm looking for? Maybe I can find one on your website to purchase one.
U can always contact me on these TH-cam comments, then we can email and the website is porkpiehatters.com many of the new fall hats are coming in this week, next week.. Thnx Kevin
Don't know if you've made a video of this but it would be cool if you made a video of you trying on all the different types of hats. I've been looking into starting to buy some but are wondering what they look like on a person and not just a professional model, you feel me?
I on the look for a nice looking, 30-40s style hat to use with a dark suit. I bought a black hat once and I did end up looking like a Rabbi, not that I mind looking like a Rabbi but I'm not even Jewish. What other colours would look good?
There are many shades of grey that are nice, porkpiehatters.com U can look at the Lexington grey, it's very authentic to that period.ribbon bound brim Also the Hudson,a little shorter brim and a little simpler design. it comes in brown with a black band, that's nice because it goes well with black, earth tones, and also can look earthy enough to wear casually w jeans Hudsons come also in light grey & charcoal grey, both are great, the charcoal is cool in the Hudson, the brim isn't wide enough to be in the rabbi zone, it's a nice medium brim,2 1/4" the Lexington is $175' the Hudson is $150, both by Selentino, they make hats since 1799,they are made in the Czech Republic by very skilled craftsman,u get like 2x your bang for the buck when compared to Stetson or an American standard hat company, that tends to cut more corners and charge way more.the detail on these hats are so authentic,& can easily sell for 2x the price, but they manage to keep the prices down, I suggest a brand called Akubra from Australia, they make a hat called Stylemaster in a slate grey, it is like a bluish grey, like slate. unique & tasteful, it'll go with anything, they're the most rugged, waterproof felt hats u will ever see at any price, known for lasting a lifetime, $175 & slightly more rugged than Selentino, The Hudson and Lexington are very fine, & true to 40's specs, where the Akubra Stylemaster is the same shape but blended with a slightly rugged,Safari-like vibe, suede-like textures etc I think the blue-grey slate color in the Stylemaster is a great versatile color, or the brown Hudson, The grey Lexington is amazing if u want to go full out 1940s, it's as authentic as u can get, the other two I mentioned are a little simpler and toned down, more subtle, while the Lexington has the contrasting ribbon trim on the brim edge,it's more 1940's,layed on a little thicker,if u know what I mean there is a color called taupe in the Borsalino Como and Borsalino Classico, sort of between grey and olive, like an earthy, greenish, brownish grey,I guess. These are pretty expensive though,$375,not for everyone, but they are among the worlds best, very soft, but we have very few left now. These also last forever. The Akubra is also amazing quality, but more rugged, the Borsalino is the softest of the bunch and crushable. Look on our site, I think even our $85 grey Atlantic is a neat color, it's a very neutral stone grey, sligtly taupe, for $85 u get a foldable, brushed that looks nice, made in USA and very soft, rollable.the grey is nice.
Thanx again,Gunny Sgt, I appreciate being appreciated.. Funny.. There was a TON of snow that day, my neighbors were shoveling all morning ! I filmed this when it was finally quiet ,and they started up at the end! I didn't want to start again, it was like the fifth time I attempted it that morning, I considered just chopping the end off..I never edit out mistakes.. hey, these are basically me propping my Iphone up against a stack of hats & pressing Record, I'm all substance & no flash, baby!
Thumbs up for how well that hat matches your eyes.
Thx!
