Like I can only imagine how happy yet sad Lui Kang felt knowing he gave Baraka such fate but he managed to pull through, learnt humility, humbleness and overall become a good person despite having every right understandable reasons not to.
Seriously if Baraka still choose to stay as a good person so could Shao and Shang but they choose not to.
Great points. Love the fact Gera put shang tsung in his place when he bitch about his "meanless" life and Liu Kang made that way. It was his fault for being a lier and cheat than Liu Kang "plan"
Maybe in another timeline they are. But the Baraka there might be a villain instead.
I think the difference is Shao and Shang are consumed by arrogance where Baraka isn't. Also Shao not being the ruler of Outworld allowed characters that would otherwise be evil to have free will of their own. Reiko is the only character in this timeline to be groomed into a villain by Shao.
I would LOVE to talk to Liu Kang about this timeline. >:(

I love how Ashrah confirms that Baraka is a pure soul. Dude looks like a monster, has fatalities where he eats people's flesh... And yet he's going to heaven to meet his family once he passes away.
Well, ripping each other's throats, tearing out spines, and other gore is not exactly... canon.
It's also quite likely the cannibalistic fatality is him losing control, not that they're canon anyway
I say protecting people with the same disease before they truly turn but making sure you fight for there rights and helping Syzoth with turning on Shang-Tsung is a pure soul also love how we had a chapter with Baraka in MK1

I really like the fact that Baraka is now more then just the “sharp toothed guy with arm blades”, this version feels more like a leader and guardian in comparison to how he’s usually an attack dog

The way Baraka accidentally snaps his left blade, purposely snaps off his right blade and regrows them back like nothing when he get knocked back is the most raw shit ever.
I like how the blades have rings imbedded in the sides too. Baraka's blade customizations been on point since 11
that one along with havik putting his intestines back in are the hardest knockback animations
He does Squint a bit, so it's not entirely painless for Baraka to do, which makes him even more badass.

Baraka is literally the perfect example of why you should never judge a book by its cover
the guy has fangs the size of a bear and still is a much better guy than lots of "normal" ones.
Circumstance might influence but its up to the individual to decide their actions, Baraka's courage and merit dwarfs ones like Shang Sung and Rain.

I adore this Baraka. He has such a deeper character now. Merchant, soldier, family man, leader, warrior. Seeking peace and care for his people. Hating his looks and all that disease took from him. Fighting fiercely to stay alive yet hating the pain Tarkat gives him every day. Tragic, yet there is still much hope left for the Tarkatans, I feel.
Baraka's backstory is one of the reasons I really like this new era, his character now is nothing like a bloodlust uncivilized jobber like he was in the previous game. At least he was one of good guys in MK11. But still considering how they make him a literal hero right now is a total redemption. I'm really happy.
I really like how despite Baraka scolding Liu Kang, he still says to Kenshi "If he could have (cured us) by now, he would have". Shows that even when more honourable, and a nicer man, Baraka is still prone to lashing out when angry about his affliction, even when he knows its not entirely Liu Kang's fault
Also wasn't it said that lashing out and bloodlust is one of tarkat side effects? That probably play some part too
I feel bad for Baraka and the rest of those infected by Tarkat. I could only imagine being a normal person only to be infected and disfigured by a vile disease and be treated like a monster because of something you have no control over. I've never loved a Baraka more than I do now. He's an honorable warrior who just had a terrible tragedy that makes people blind to who he really is on the inside.
also as hinted by mileena, they suffer a lot of pain as well, without counting the other sympthoms. imagine a normal guy growing fangs THAT big and mostly with limited mouth movements. must be an absolute torture.
They are an homage to how people with leprosy were ostracized back in the days
@@KanishQQuotes yeah, and pretty sad considering that for having leper, a person had to keep prolonged contact for months with an infected to become as well.
In previous timelines Baraka stood out of most of all tarkatans because he was the most skill. Here, it's because he has the best resistance to it as a disease. No matter what side he's on, Baraka has a will stronger than the steel blades he produces.

I feel bad for Baraka in this universe. He's a really nice guy who got conflicted with an uncurable disease, and despite how outworld treats people like him, he still cares a lot for outworld. Definitely an improvement from the previous Baraka

Baraka cracking up at Johnny's chances with Kitana is one of my favorite dialogues in the whole game. Baraka probably doesn't many opportunities at all to find anything amusing and he deserves a chance to laugh at something.

I like to think that after the main story, Baraka was brought in by King Jerrod to help Mileena control and train her affliction as the Royal Blademaster; he deserves it.

Yeah I was thinking that too about sindel. It actually feels like she is a leader that worked through some problems, but on others she had truly ignored or simply became arrogant to work on.

a great thing about these intros is it gives several unique dialogues for characters with zero history together and would never interact otherwise

A very unique way to turn the brutish flesh eater into an tragic heroic figure that is slowly turning more feral. Don’t think Tarkata can be cured, but maybe it will be treated not to spread and keep the mind
Gotta say though I like this change , never has Baraka of all Kombat been this interesting (and still had a Steve Blum into it which adds more awesome)

3:50 I know it's probably just the emergent animation, but the way his eyes suddenly widen and his brow raises makes Baraka look genuinely dismayed to learn that Shang Tsung's work was merely palliative rather than curative. As if he'd heard and hoped that treatment was possible, and just had that hope crushed.

This timelines baraka might see this in two ways. The disease is so horrific I affects newborns while in the mother's wombs. Or the disease wasn't really a "disease" in the original time line (which it wasn't)
I would think that Baraka is talking to his prior timeline self where Tarkatans are just a mere race in Outworld than a disease-succumbed Outworlders like in the new one.

Honestly, I trip on how they had Baraka made here. I did like him early as the foot soldier type that stands out for being more ruthless and a kick ass fighter. I got upset when he died in MKX but came back and got more respect in MK 11, going from Captain to a friggen rep and general in Kitana's army before Shao Kahn's rebellion. The best was this one to me...He still suffers, he still is a bit blood lusted, but he shows he's like the Hulk at times "More than just muscle/destruction...". He knows the horror of Tarkat and he honestly wishes to help either cure, treat, or cleanse of it. Even went as far as try to help Kenshi and his squad in story. That honestly, I did not expect but DAMN I'm glad they finally gave us a chapter to play as him and Reptile too. Best part? Blum voices him, so you know he has that demonic Wolvie feel that wants to be not a monster but a man of words.
