Reptile getting a ROMANCE with Ashrah and a Bromance with Baraka was not something I was expecting in this game, but DAMN, do I support the hell out of it
Reptile is by far and away the best change of character in this game. Rather than just being Shang/Shao's jobber lackey, he's rizzing up Ashrah, working for Mileena and has gathered the respect of all of the Edenians and Earthrealmers. Most of these interactions are so wholesome and supportive. What a goddamn treasure it is to see that.

Thanks to Tarkat being a semi-treatable disease, Mileena's status could stay as a (psudo anti-)hero or degrade as the story goes on with oppertunities of redemption. A genuinely complex & occasionally holesome relationship between Kitana & Mileena.

Reptile has always been an amazing character. After this game, he became one of my top 3 Mortal Kombat characters of all time (after Kuai Liang and Hanzo Hasashi). The character development he went in this game is certainly remarkable. A few notes: 1) So now he likes Ashrah? Ok, that's cute. She may be a demon, but hey, so is Sareena and she and Kabal ended up together in Mortal Kombat 11, right? 2) Love how Reptile roasts Reiko by doubting his abilities as second in command to Shao. 3) Wait a minute, Havik's real name is Dairou? They're not separate characters?
This new timeline did wonders for Reptile. Rather than being a Jabroni that exist to take a beating, he is a cool, friendly, humble and respected good guy. I hope we'll see more of this new and improved Reptile in the next game.
And is scared of it...he's perfectly fine with partially eating someone alive and spitting acid at them, but he draws the line at the Predator? Sounds about right
@superduperblurrymario8056 its hard to tell. Havik is apparently portrayed to be native to Seido, which in the old games was the capital city of Orderrealm. Later in his and Rain's ending, Rain wad manipulated into flooding the entire place, so I don't know if Seido is its own entire realm, like in the old games, or if its just a city that in a farther part of Outworld. Remember, this game doesn't portray Edenia as an entirely separate realm that was merged into Outworld by conquest. Its always been part of Outworld here. So following that logic, maybe there's only Earthrealm, Outworld, and Neatherrealm this time around, and Outworld is the realm that carries multiple aspects from other realms, including what use to be Orderrealm and maybe Chaosrealm. Edit: Just did some back checking on clips with Havok. Yeah, Orderrealm is still a thing. No mention of Chaosrealm though.
If you look closely, Syzoth seems to feel great sympathy for Ashrah when she talks about Quan Chi trying to kill her. They must've bonded over their masters trying to kill them lol.

I like the conversation with reptile and Kitana involving a message from Rain. Reptile: "I bring a message from your cousin" Basically Kitana: "Fuck that bitch"
I like the saurian/zateran callout in his mirror match. Little details like that really help clear up any plot inconsistency and makes every timeline feel unique.
I wonder if Saurians are a separate race in this timeline...if only Khameleon was playable instead of a Kameo because I want to know if she is still Saurian in this timeline
@@rjstorm54 I assumed the implication was that zaterans used to be called saurians but since they didn't go extinct in this timeline, their culture was able to grow and became known as Zaterans. Like Saurian is just "lizard person" while Zateran implies a culture he's from. But I also have no evidence beyond my own assumptions so who knows.
I love how in this timeline pretty much everybody loves and respects Syzoth, with only the most evil hating or mocking him, a complete flip from him his prior depictions. He's been one of the biggest winners in Liu Kang's timeline. It was hilarious hearing him sound so shy and doubtful about playing a villain in a Johnny Cage movie. Between that and the Predator reference, I would love a skit of Syzoth, Johnny, and a few other Earthrealmers enjoying movie night at Cage Mansion.
I can just imagine him in Johnny's Mansion watching the movie whimpering in fear as he cuddles a Zaterran Plushie (Johnny made it for his Outworld Cinematic Universe)

As a longtime Reptile fan I'm very happy with what they've done with him in MK 1. Design-wise and story-wise he's been given an amazing update in the game. His transformation abilities between human and Zaterran form is such an unique find. His role as emissary to the royal family, rather than a slave, is perfect for him. This might easily be my favorite version of Reptile in the entire MK franchise!
I'm really digging the new Reptile variation. Also,I didn't like the Tarkot disease retcon, until I found out it can infect other species. Now I want Kintaro to have it......
After years of seeing Reptile/Syzoth be a nearly mindless animalisitc minion for Shao or Shang Tsung, its really nice to see him not only become a hero but finally find himself around people that respect, and in Ashrah's case, love him

Syzoth was bullied when he was young, which is why he learned how to fight. Syzoth dislikes human food. Syzoth has a close relationship with Ashrah, more than just friendship but not quite enough to call it dating. They are in two different realms.
Syzoth has nothing but scorn for Shang Tsung, Shao and Quan Chi. Havik too now that I think about it. Syzoth knows Havik's real identity. Syzoth is scared of the Predator films. Syzoth and Tomas are besties and I will hear no argument.
Wait, so the family that was taken hostage was his wife and son? Reptile was married? And had a kid? Dang, he moves on pretty quickly if he’s already dating somebody new, I thought the family was, like, his parents and a sibling.
On the one hand, given his past, it does make sense that he might have a closer relationship with a wife, especially since he says that he made good money as a circus performer. On the other hand, damn, that man works fast!
It's not particularly clear just how long he was forcibly in Shang Tsung's service. However, the latter does make mention that killed Reptile's family rather quickly.
He served months in Shang Tsungs dungeon seeing its horror and only knowing his family was in hostage, only to find out his guard duty was pointless in the end.
The fact that is implied that reptile already seen a lot of fuck*d up things and he's actually scared about predator make hime even more likeable to me, the guy ia really well hearted

Ive actually enjoyed these back and forth lines. While the roasts were awesome in MK 10/11, it is refreshing to get straight to kombat while still getting the message across.

Both of them probably bonded after reaching Wu shi Academy to take a break. Hence why we didn't see them more until the Armageddon.

I like the saurian/zateran callout in his mirror match. Little details like that really help clear up any plot inconsistency and makes every timeline feel unique.
I wonder if Saurians are a separate race in this timeline...if only Khameleon was playable instead of a Kameo because I want to know if she is still Saurian in this timeline
@@rjstorm54 I assumed the implication was that zaterans used to be called saurians but since they didn't go extinct in this timeline, their culture was able to grow and became known as Zaterans. Like Saurian is just "lizard person" while Zateran implies a culture he's from.
But I also have no evidence beyond my own assumptions so who knows.

I love how in this timeline pretty much everybody loves and respects Syzoth, with only the most evil hating or mocking him, a complete flip from him his prior depictions. He's been one of the biggest winners in Liu Kang's timeline.
It was hilarious hearing him sound so shy and doubtful about playing a villain in a Johnny Cage movie. Between that and the Predator reference, I would love a skit of Syzoth, Johnny, and a few other Earthrealmers enjoying movie night at Cage Mansion.

As a longtime Reptile fan I'm very happy with what they've done with him in MK 1. Design-wise and story-wise he's been given an amazing update in the game. His transformation abilities between human and Zaterran form is such an unique find. His role as emissary to the royal family, rather than a slave, is perfect for him. This might easily be my favorite version of Reptile in the entire MK franchise!
I'm really digging the new Reptile variation. Also,I didn't like the Tarkot disease retcon, until I found out it can infect other species. Now I want Kintaro to have it......

On the one hand, given his past, it does make sense that he might have a closer relationship with a wife, especially since he says that he made good money as a circus performer.
On the other hand, damn, that man works fast!
It's not particularly clear just how long he was forcibly in Shang Tsung's service. However, the latter does make mention that killed Reptile's family rather quickly.
He served months in Shang Tsungs dungeon seeing its horror and only knowing his family was in hostage, only to find out his guard duty was pointless in the end.

Seems like his style was to interfere early to get the endgame results he wants, then back off to let them build fate from what he gave them.
