I had to leave my husband to save his sanity He had a full mental health breakdown because of his mother's pressure. Didn't want to but I knew he was losing it and even the sheriff's department said this is just not safe at all for either of you. My neighbor really explained it to me her sister had gone through it with a Japanese mother-in-law who did this to her son because he married an American. I just couldn't figure out why did she hate it and she warned me that just because she married American didn't mean that she wanted her children to do that She wanted to have the Japanese blood reestablished even stronger by having the children married a full Japanese person that way the bloodline would start moving back towards the other direction. Yakuza wannabes? Lmao as if Yakuza was the blueprint or something. They just were some angry males who had petty motivations to do crime and not work cause all they could do was fight. It's kinda interesting how they opted for longer skirts when you compare it to the western world. Like the "bad girls" here usually seem to wear shorter or not wear skirts at all. Nothing wrong with it, I think it's a really interesting cultural difference
It makes total sense. Rebellious clothing always has the goal of achieving a contrast to the norm. In western culture, it‘s shamed if schoolgirls (and woman in general) show too much skin, that‘s why they tend to provocate by wearing revealing clothing. However, in Japanese culture schoolgirls are already sexualized by having to wear short skirts (they still do, Japanese are really perverted in that regard). That‘s why they opt for long skirts and not showing a lot of skin as a rebellious clothing style. Edit: I think Japan is really fucked up in that regard. Imagine having to cover your skin to be rebellious. I‘m really sorry for Japanese woman.
Exactly. First of all, according to the comments the word Sukeban doesn't even mean girlboss, it apparently means "delinquent girl". Secondly, gangs and crime should never be glamorised, no matter who the perpetrators are.
Completely missed the fact that the sukeban followed their own set of strict rules and breaking these rules from within the gang could lead to a “lynching.” It’s not the same as what you’re thinking, their lynching is a series of punishments as minor from a cigarette burn to a full on beating by your fellow gang members. Rules broken that could lead to a lynching were, fooling around with boys, being caught with drugs, disrespecting higher ranking members. Apparently there are worse punishments that “rival that of the Spanish Inquisition,” but there’s no details online.
Yeah just didn’t know what it’s called. Also I like this concept. They don’t just commit crimes, they also take care of each other like if one of them is getting abused there is a very real possibility that whoever is doing that is going to get mobbed when they go out for work the next day. Also using skirts to hide weapons is smart.
As a child, I often saw a group of three girls who were the boss or gangsters in anime and they all wore long skirts, unlike the FL and wondered why are they always dressed like this. Now I know 😍
why are school gangs a thing in japan in the first place? I've never heard of other countries having school kids form their own gang that is actually dangerous.
Well, considering Yakuza exist and there was also men gangs plus school sexualized girl uniform and there are limited human right as female at that time, wouldn't be surprised such school gangs appeared
Delinquent highschool gangs of the 80s and early 90s were inspired by several things. In the 60s and 70s there were violent university student protests where university students would barricade university buildings and use bombs or attack security/police in political protest. The generation of 80s delinquent high school gangs were kids who grew up watching this. There was also really high social pressure to study hard and succeed during the great economic boom Japan was going through. There were too many kids in each class, and not enough support from teachers. The curriculum involved a lot of cram studying rhote memorizational material, and academics was seen as a win or lose race. Also, teachers would still physically punish students, so students snapped and fought back. Aesthetically speaking, american biker gangs and high school movies were also a great inspiration. Teens in American movies defied authority, unlike Japanese traditional societal norms, and Japanese teens wanted to recreate that.
There are less Japanese school gangs now, but it's still a thing in some schools. In the past few decades they've mainly existed in low income or rural areas. Educational reforms, police crack downs, etc. have helped lessen their numbers. In recent years, media depicting school gangs, such as the serialized comics and animated show of Tokyo Revengers, have inspired some students to join their own school gangs. Other trends have also arisen, such as Tou-yoko kids, who are run away kids not wanting to return to abusive homes loitering around almost in a homeless state around a specific square in Tokyo. Tou-yoko kids aren't known for violence or substance abuse, just very young kids who refuse to go home, but it's become a huge problem in the news.

Sukeban (スケバン/助番) is a Japanese term meaning 'delinquent girl'
Now what does that mean
@@yuribezmenov4967 In Japan, individuality is not nurtured like here in the US. People are expected to conform to society, not the other way around. A delinquent is someone who doesn't conform, whether by not going to school regularly or wanting to change society by protesting via longer school uniforms, or even simply by not being a good worker who stays at the office until their boss has left first, stuff like that.
Sukeban is just a group of delinquent middle/high school girls. They weren’t considered badass in Japanese society at all. Some of the pics are from an old movie in 80’s which glamorized Sukeban by casting famous actresses and was very popular among teens.
It's in Fruits Basket! Awesome to see this.
I thought of Kyoko and Uotani when I saw this short ❤😂 love this anime
I was looking for this comment 😊
Sukebun is not a gang but a term coined for these girls. The yakuza is also never scared of the sukebun, you don’t expect Mexican cartels to be scared of local street gangs. The yakuza had armoires of guns to put into comparison, male school gangsters are also not scared of these girls, at that time they heavily underestimated people based on gender not to mention males gangs often had support from local yakuza leaders. I know this video is desperately trying to create this girl boss image but spreading misinformation is not cool.
Also I think there's a misunderstanding with Western culture trying to understand especially Japanese culture. My first husband was Japanese. He was really honest about his culture how it really existed the history of it, etc. I really appreciated that he basically busted a lot of the myths. I didn't know he was Japanese when I started dating him. He was half Japanese half Italian Irish. He could go anywhere and people thought he was their culture. Sadly our marriage could not hold up to his mother's dislike for him marrying a European American. I think she would have been more upset if later on after meeting my birth family she would have found out I indigenous with a bit of European. I have a problem with melatonin production so I have extremely white skin I burn I can't tan I'm allergic to the sun makes me sick. My brother looks indigenous We were adopted out so we didn't really know what our background was. My uncle who was from my grandfather second wife a full blood Apache was adorable He was a 6'3 positively huge warrior everybody in Nam called him chief. Well this woman was right because my mother-in-law destroyed her daughter's first marriage and forced her to have an abortion her daughter was so upset that after she got her head together she realized what her mother done to her and she ran away married this amazing guy has two beautiful children and never really came back She left the grandparents visit the kids but she never came back home fully She really explained to me a lot also very honest about how difficult it was going to be. I just watched my husband fall apart so badly I was terrified for his life. He is alive He eventually remarried and is caring for his mother to this day living with her good for this young woman who was able to do that.

I hope no one comments negatively towards your reply because this sad behavior (unfortunately) is on the rise in the internet (or maybe it always have been)
I will say though, it’s a sad mindset to think that the origins of a human cannot ‘mix’ or else they will be tainting a whole bloodline
so what if we are from different countries? We learn from the differences that both the cultures have, and try to establish harmony between the individuals practicing them!
but one must also know that learning and applying a whole (or part of) a new culture on a short or long time is not an experience for all
so it is okay if one would like to love a person from their own origin/country
I also think that parents shouldn’t have this much control over their adult offspring, I think parenting is about guidance not possession of one’s life

@valiantsfelinesmccarty6678 Your comment is a bit of a jumbled mess, but not even parents can "force" an adult to get an abortion or only marry their own race. I married outside of my race, and although my family placed lots of pressure on me in the beginning, I stuck with what I wanted. Almost 15 years later and they say absolutely nothing anymore.

Hey everybody look at mr. Nodick tiny balls over here. Let’s laugh at him 🫵🫵🫵
Completely missed the fact that the sukeban followed their own set of strict rules and breaking these rules from within the gang could lead to a “lynching.” It’s not the same as what you’re thinking, their lynching is a series of punishments as minor from a cigarette burn to a full on beating by your fellow gang members.
Also using skirts to hide weapons is smart.

why are school gangs a thing in japan in the first place?
Teens in American movies defied authority, unlike Japanese traditional societal norms, and Japanese teens wanted to recreate that.
they were criminals who comitted theft and murder people wouldnt be scared of a harmless girl group protesting for rights
Where do you live? I always meet every gangs member almost everywhere. I am friend with them during time I live in US, UK, Japan, Thailand.😂
