I can't afford all these planners, so I have the quilted black cover for my planner. I invested in a Happy Planner hole punch and a paper cutter. I make my own pages with computer paper, highlighters, colored pencils and colored pens (for color coding). Instead of stickers I use stencils to create designs for my pages. As for my planning style? I make a weekly goals section on a page, followed by the weekly spread. Using the computer paper has been awesome because it's truly a blank canvas and I can experiment with different spreads every week.
I love using stickers, but budget is also a concern. I decided to also use stamps. I did buy what I needed last winter, but it was so expensive. I have enough basics, including a hole punch, so I can make what serves me well now. Now is a great time to office paper (before school begins). My supplies are well organized, so that helps me maximize using what I have too.
That's exactly what I did when I first started out, except I used an old Franklin Covey 7 ring binder cover that i found at Goodwill for $1.00! I'm pretty good at doodling, so I just cut down & punched computer paper - and doodled icons, headers, boxes, etc to look like stickers and colored them in with cheapo dollar store colored pencils. I actually really enjoy that kind of planning! You're right that it's a blank canvas and it's fun to experiment with different layouts every week. It just takes me SO long to create the weekly spreads because I am a perfectionist when it comes to my art (even if it's just doodles haha). If it didn't take me so long to create my spreads from scratch, I'd still do it that way! But, over the years I've collected tons of stickers, stamps, pens, stencils, etc. and I use the Happy Planner. Do you have an Instagram account or something showcasing your spreads? I'd love to see how you create them!
Ok… surely I’m not the only one who watched this video and became giddy, right?! I’m new to The Happy Planner. Bought a big planner today. (Clearance at Walmart.) This has helped me greatly and sold me on the idea that I made the right decision!! Thank you for having a great video for newbies. ❤️
OMG 😳 you blew my mind with the “Transformer” planner!!! Is this your creation? Love the idea. I wanted this but I didn’t want a million ring binders all over the house... This is sooooo brilliant. Thank your soooo much.
I just want to say that from all the channels about planners I really love yours. You really help me to understand all this planner community and I love your ideas!
Thank you for explaining the difference between “Frankenplanners” and “Transformer” planners. Looking at what everyone was presenting in their videos and posts, I couldn’t tell how they were different.
I am staring to use a Disc planner and your video was the first one I have came across that explained how to get started that I could follow. Everybody else talk too much about a lot of stuff that is a waste of time. I also love your definition of the transformation planner. Love it and plan to go that route. Great video and very helpful. Thanks so much.
This video is brilliant. Finally a way to keep past covers and continue adjusting to my style. Now I can take advantage of outdated planners and customize to my style!!
Really, really great video! You captured everything for the very beginner, people who are considering going “Happy Planner” for the upcoming year as I am. Thank you so much!!
Excellent instructional video! Starting planner systems can quickly become overwhelming . Before we know it , we are drowning in planners & accessories & not knowing how to use it all!😊😱🤦🏽♀️ I’m definitely going to keep your video for reference. Thank you 🙏🏽😊
I have a transformer planner and LOVE IT!! I’ve never been so obsessed with a planner before! I thought I loved bullet journaling, but I love this even more!
I am a longtime planner who's fairly new to Happy Planner. This video is so informative and comprehensive, and even though it's longer than a lot of introductory videos, it's concise. I am saving this one to refer back to regularly!
I’ve been wanting to get a Happy Planner for a while and have finally started to look at purchasing so have found both your video and channel at a great time.
I found friction erasable pens at Daiso. I am trying to get my daughter to love this too since her school has given them an “agenda” in the second grade. I will help her learn planning and I’ll get her a cheap planner for personal use.
As a high school teacher of ninth and tenth graders, I was constantly giving students and parents tips so that kids would learn how to plan. It's a skill, and it takes practice. My college used to teach time management skills, and it was a top school. You're giving your child an important tool for success.
Fantastic video. As a newby this was so informative and I appreciate how simple you make the process. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us!!
This was so helpful! I've used a spiral bound planner for years but just bought my first Happy Planner to start in July. I was just ink to paper planner until two months ago when started watching the videos . I have so much to learn and you have been such an enormous inspiration. Thank you.
I traveled with my planner in my suitcase and the friction of the trip erased writing. Just an FYI. I don't use them after that I lost six months of journalling. I just switched to Happy Planner. Great presentation I learned a lot.
Good to know! Since you were traveling, it must have been hard to control the temperature of your journal. I have not had any problems leaving my planner in a hot car for a few hours but I have heard others who have so better to be safe than sorry. 😁👍🏼
This was the first time I had heard of Franken planners or Transformer planners. It's made me think differently about what I could do with my planner this coming year.
I have just started using a happy planner (yay!), thankyou so much for this video. I had never heard of the transformer method before, I love, love, love it!!!!! Totally answers a need that I had, thankyou.
Thank you so much for making this video. I just ordered my first happy planner and was feeling a bit overwelmed with all the products. Excited to watch more of your happy planner videos that dive into other things!
Thank you! Very helpful. I’m new to The Happy Planner. This helped me a lot on how to combine my standard planner, fitness & goals! Going for the transformer planner! Yay!
Thank you so much for this. I was literally overwhelmed with the 3 planners I have. I wanted just one with everything and couldn’t figure out how to do that. So thank you
Ha! Imagine an hour long video of me on the couch surrounded by sticker books. 😂 😜 Maybe I could do one at my desk and speed it up a bit so you wouldn’t slip into a coma waiting for me to pick a sticker...🤔 Hmm, I’ll add it to the idea list and see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I came across your channel by complete accident! So glad I did! I love the idea of the transformer because I don't have to sacrifice the back side of a page I PLAN on using. I'm setting off to look at your other videos...thank you so much!
Thank you for a very detailed, but simple explanation for customizing your planner. I am pretty new to planning and have been wondering what a Frankenplanner means.
Thanks so much! Your video helped me a great deal. I really like the transformer planning style. My planner is tight should i be using expansion disc for the transforming technique?
Glad to hear it! And yes, you will want to consider going up to either 1.5” or 1.75” discs if you are moving to transformer. The happy planner expander discs are 1.75” which are a little big IMO. I am using 1.5” discs on my planner this year and they are just big enough to give me some breathing room without being SO big. I got mine at Staples (Arc system) on clearance but you can find lots of options on Amazon. 👍🏼
I love this! Thank you for sharing! I began adding stickers to my planner in March and then I became obsessed with all the things! The dashboards, accessories, stickers, pens... then the Happy Planner did a new release and I began slowly purchasing all the new things from the release, including planners! I picked up 2 classics, a mini and a Big, so I could see the differences and see how I could make them work for me. Now I have 2 minis, 4 classics, 1 more on the way because I had to get a new Rongrong horizontal, 2 Big, one for I’m going to try to use for memory Planning with pics, and one horizontal I want to use for my Faith planner. I quickly realized one planner wasn’t going to work for me! I am thinking about doing the transformer planner and also a Franken Planner. That way I have everything I need at my fingertips and not so many planners to juggle with. I know it’s excessive, but I’m trying to find my planner peace and see what works best for me. The real test will come in July when the new planners start. Then I’ll be able to have a clearer picture of how everything works together. I am so thankful for this video! Thank you for taking the time to do this! I knew I didn’t want to try to juggle so many planners but I need them all for different purposes. My husband of course thinks I’m crazy lol 😂 I don’t like the layout of the Faith planner, which is why I’m wanting to use a horizontal layout, and I’ve tested it in my Classic Happy Planner But, it’s not quite big enough, I write super small and I’m using the full box, plus another full sheet I’ve divided up into each day of the week, and a half sheet... each and every week. I am really hoping I can get away with just the planner space and maybe a half sheet in the Big to do my Faith planning. I tend to write a lot! I also wanted a daily journal, so I picked up another horizontal for that. I’ve been using a mini and it’s not enough space, so I think the classic will be enough space for that purpose. But I could totally put a few of these into one planner with their own sections and make it work. That’s the goal anyway.
Ooh, girl! The planning bug hit you hard! 😂 But, believe me, I can relate! A lot of the fun is trying things out and seeing what works and what doesn’t. I might suggest for the faith planner that you try a happy notes instead of a planner if you are willing to date it yourself. That way you are not constricted to preset areas for writing and you can just do a continuous journal layout. Just an idea, but do what works best for you. 😁 Happy planning!
Now that I've seen it again I miss my first faith planner... It was sooo beautiful with all the florals and quotes, and the weekly pages were neutral, it was the best ever.
I would to learn how to use the dashboard and the verticals that I purchased. I don't like verticals but I loved the planner so I may need to make some changes. Thanks
Thanks to you, i ve just had an a-ha moment! 😳😳 i actually prefer using the mini happy planner. I had transformer planned 5 planners into 2. A mini and a classic. I decided i wanted one planner and moved everything to the classic, but now i want everything in the mini. Plus i need some of those pens. Been using the pilot g-2, but they smear on me. Thanks !!😍😍😍
I've tried the pens and can't say how much I love them! Our two sons love them so much that I seriously wonder if the rest of the pens and pencils in the house will ever be used! They definitely bring us joy!
So I got a happy planner. I’ve never been REALLY into decorating a planner but maybe because I’ve never known how. Thank you for assisting me with this video. My next order from happy planner will be stickers & other things.
Great video! I’ve been planning since Feb 2019 and still trying to find my groove. It takes time to find what works for you. But I love HP because I can change it up as I go along! My goal is a transformer planner but still not sure if that will cover all I need without it being monstrous size lol
Thank you for putting out this video. I have been looking for a way to utilize my current happy planner for a potential new job...but I will need to keep work and home separate. I've heard of frankenplanning but not transformative planning and I think the latter is the perfect solution. Now, to score some extra covers for a discount somewhere. Can't wait to see the new planners for 2020! Even just looking is fun so I may be going into Michael's to look at the clearance rack here soon!
1. Thanks for the information about erasable pens. I didn't know that they also have highlighters, so that was very exciting to me! Our two sons (Senior and college student) LOVE the erasable pens! I doubt that I'll be able to persuade them to use regular pens much any more! 2. I had never heard the difference between the Franklin vs. Transformer set ups. I really liked those ideas. I prefer the Franklin. 3. I appreciated the simple steps. They simplify so much in my head to areas, in a size that serves me well and having enough supplies that serve me well. Thanks for the input.
Just depends on many months you like to have in your transformer for each planner. If you are good with 6 or less months at a time, expander discs should work just fine.
@@squairdplans Awesome! Thanks, I'll find those expander discs. I love thick books and I do plan months ahead. My planner may look like War and Peace 😆
I really like the idea of Frankenplanning with a happy planner. I think that's what would work best for me because I've been using my A5 in that way currently. I like the look of that.
Can you mix a franken planner with a transformer planner . I think tha would suit my needs. And I want to put it all in a Micro notes. I'm just starting a disc type planner and came across your video. TY so much for explaining everything it's very helpful❤😊
I have so many planners in classic and the big, I would get bored and move on to other type planners now because I've been watching transformer planner videos I got out all my planners and sticker books and I'm still buying more planners and inserts. I think I just like to buy and collect like my crafting stuff. I need to get focused!
Great tutorial on the different planners and how to use them, this is sure to help a lot of newbies get started! New subscriber here and I’ll also be sharing your video 🙂
Thanks for the video! I’m looking to buy my first planner. I really want a budget planner, then maybe personal/faith. Two maybe three and use the transformer format. The classic size. What are your thoughts or recommendations?
Your setup sounds good. Depending on how many planners you get, you may want to get a set of expander rings (the metal ones are best) if you set it up transformer style. The covers can eat up a lot of space on the rings so carrying anything over 2 planners can get tight on standard rings. Enjoy setting things up! ☺️👍🏼
I love my mini happy planner with its 7 discs, I cannot stand the expander discs. My daughter loves her classic size. She mainly uses it for school. I do have one question for you. Is there alot of accessories for the classic? I know there's clip on covers for the mini but do they have a deluxe cover for the classic?
Hi! First off, sorry about the 6 disc notation...gotta find out how to fix that without reuploading. 🤔 And second, I would say there may be more options for the classic size than for any other planner. I know for sure they have the deluxe covers for the classic as well as the snap-on hard covers. I’ve seen both at Michaels and Joann’s if you are in the market for them. 👍🏼
@@squairdplans no worries and I don't think anyone minds. And thank you very much. I will definitely check it out. My daughter really wants one for her clasdic happy planner.
Lemme figure something out for the pen loops...😬 they basically all stuck onto pocket folders just at different heights. I’ll try and remember to show in a future planner setup video. As for the bookmark...it is super old and honestly I don’t remember where it came from. Oh, wait! It just came to me!! It was in my recipe organizer box set so I don’t think you can find it separately. 😬😔 Sorry. But there is a b&w bookmark of the same dive in that baby accessory pack I bought at Joann’s recently...if that helps. I’ll look for the link just in case you wanna see.
How do you store what you've used? I guess the hard part for me is I tend to look back a lot for reference & not having that on hand would be challenging. I like the idea nonetheless.
I keep each planner separately on a shelf and add a month from each to my frankenplanner. I think you can get away with carrying more months if you have less planners or larger rings. That might help you solve your referencing dilemma. I also have a few annual planning pages that I keep at the front of my frankenplanner that I can use to track past and future events for the full year. Check out my 2023 planner setup or January 2023 flip through videos for more! 😁👍
I can't afford all these planners, so I have the quilted black cover for my planner. I invested in a Happy Planner hole punch and a paper cutter. That is awesome! Love how you customized it and made it your own! 🙌🏼 Glad you are enjoying planning in your own creative way. 👍🏼
That sounds neat
I love using stickers, but budget is also a concern. I decided to also use stamps. I did buy what I needed last winter, but it was so expensive. Seiferboy Gaming ... that is cool idea!!!! love it!!!
i feel so blessed!! today i scored a 2017 Happy Planner for $1 at a thrift store. planning on customizing it for 2020 when the real show begins!
Nice! I 🧡 thrifting! Glad you found such a great deal! Happy planning! 🤗👍🏼
That truly was a blessing. I scored at a thrift shop on a Bath n body works candle brand new for $3 vs Brand new for $24
Ok… surely I’m not the only one who watched this video and became giddy, right?!
I’m new to The Happy Planner. Bought a big planner today. (Clearance at Walmart.) This has helped me greatly and sold me on the idea that I made the right decision!!
Thank you for having a great video for newbies. ❤️
Congrats on your new happy planner! Glad you found this video informative. Get ready to become obsessed with planners and accessories! 😉
Thanks for introducing me to the transformers set up in my happy planner. I love it.
I'm so glad!
OMG 😳 you blew my mind with the “Transformer” planner!!! Is this your creation? Love the idea. I wanted this but I didn’t want a million ring binders all over the house... This is sooooo brilliant. Thank your soooo much.
Glad to bring the option to your attention! The original idea came from whimsy Lindsey plans I believe, but I saw it first on another channel.
There are many videos of this however she's not the creator
I just want to say that from all the channels about planners I really love yours. You really help me to understand all this planner community and I love your ideas!

Love this!! Franken Planner and Transformer planner😍😍
Getting ideas for your planner setup? 😁👍🏼
I really like the transformer system idea I may try that
It is great! If I had less planners, I'd probably go back to that planner style.
Really, really great video! You captured everything for the very beginner, people who are considering going “Happy Planner” for the upcoming year as I am. Thank you so much!!
So glad you got a lot out of it! 😀👍🏼
Wow..... tremendous value packed video for this planner newbie!

I’m definitely going to keep your video for reference. Thank you 🙏🏽😊
So glad you found the info useful! 👍🏼 Happy planning! 🤗
This is the best for description of style and type. It helps for encouragement that you don't need to do it all at once. Anticipate upcoming sales.
Thanks so much, Valencia!
I love the transformer planning idea! I hadn't thought to use my planner covers in that way! Awesome video...thank you for sharing🧡🧡
Glad you enjoyed! Happy planning! 😁💕
I just got my first Happy Planner . Thank you for the video. And tips.

Believe me...the obsession is real! 😆 Thanks for watching! ☺️💕
Stickers - "We love them. We want them all. We are obsessed." So true!
If you own more stickers that you can use in a lifetime... you might be a planner babe. ;)
I am a longtime planner who's fairly new to Happy Planner. This video is so informative and comprehensive, and even though it's longer than a lot of introductory videos, it's concise. I am saving this one to refer back to regularly!

how do you get the buttons attached to the paper and cover
They go together with a mushroom paper punch. It allows the discs to hold the paper.
Just found your channel! Excited to use your tips to make my planner suit me. Thank you! Looking forward to watching more. ❤
Glad you found me! Happy planning! ☺️👍🏼
Thank you for this video! I'm new to using a planner.
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏼☺️
Love the Transformer system option. I’ll use the idea for daily planner and Budget. I’ll use the Memories as scrapbooking.
Sounds like a fun setup! 😁👍🏼
@@squairdplans I just got started earlier. Liking it already.
This is more like what my planner looks like, but I LOVE your creative spreads. I occasionally attempt to copy what you do.
Thanks for watching! ☺️💕
Now that I've seen it again I miss my first faith planner... It was sooo beautiful with all the florals and quotes, and the weekly pages were neutral, it was the best ever.
Nothing like a beautiful neutral planner to make a happy planner! 😉💗📒
I would to learn how to use the dashboard and the verticals that I purchased. I don't like verticals but I loved the planner so I may need to make some changes. Thanks
I did do a 10 layouts video for both dashboard and vertical layout. I’ll find the links if you are interested.
Glad I could help you get to a state of planner peace.😊👍🏼
I LOVE the Transformer Planner idea!
It has been floating around the community for the last year. It was a brilliant idea by Whimsy Lindsay Plans!👍🏼
For me, this video was much needed and very helpful. Now I have suggestions on how to organize my planner. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! ☺️💕
Squaird Plans I just set up my planner transformed style and I’m excited. Thanks again
So glad you are trying it! 👍🏼 Hope you find your planner peace! ☺️
Love both ❤️
Glad to hear it!
Great video...will be watching 2nd video next!
I need to try the Pilot Frixion pens & highlighters 😳🤣
Thanks! They are my favs! 🤗
I've tried the pens and can't say how much I love them! Our two sons love them so much that I seriously wonder if the rest of the pens and pencils in the house will ever be used! They definitely bring us joy!
So great and simple!
Thanks! ☺️
I love the cover and “faith planner”overall!! New subbie!
Thanks for the 💕 and support! ☺️
Thank you very much for this video. It helped me combine a few planners! New Subbie😊
Glad to hear it! Thanks for subbing! 😁👍🏼

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed! :)
Loved this video! Thanks!
Happy to hear it! 😁👍🏼
My favorite pens too,With a few others for design or writing
Love frixion pens! 😁👍🏼
Thank you for the explanation! You have done the best in this area and now I know which I want🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Great news! Happy planning! 😁👍🏼
I think this planner is beautiful. I was lucky enough to find it on clearance and will keep the covers
Sweet! I love a good deal! 😁💕
Another video I love, still finding my groove. Love your top tabs...what did you use til label them? Keep up the great work 🥰
Thanks! ☺️💕 So I have a dymo labeler that does basic labels. I use it for my top tabs and dividers. It’s like $20 at target/Walmart. 👍🏼
@@squairdplans ... where do you buy the top tab dividers??
Newbie here 👋🏻
I did a transformer planner my bff show me how to do it and I really love that idea 😘
Nice! I love seeing all my favorite covers together in one! 😁💕
So I got a happy planner. I’ve never been REALLY into decorating a planner but maybe because I’ve never known how. Thank you for assisting me with this video. My next order from happy planner will be stickers & other things.
Congratulations! Have fun planning!
Great video! I’ve been planning since Feb 2019 and still trying to find my groove. It takes time to find what works for you. But I love HP because I can change it up as I go along! My goal is a transformer planner but still not sure if that will cover all I need without it being monstrous size lol
😆 Yeah, the transformers get outta hand pretty quick with all those covers! I had to upgrade to expander rings. 😜
Nice! Setting up a custom-to-you planner is one of my favorite things! 🤗Have fun planning! 😁👍🏼
Happy to share! ☺️👍🏼
I'd like to do a transformer planning system. If I get bigger rings will it help with fitting the 3-4 planners?
Just depends on many months you like to have in your transformer for each planner. If you are good with 6 or less months at a time, expander discs should work just fine.
@@squairdplans Awesome! Thanks, I'll find those expander discs. I love thick books and I do plan months ahead. My planner may look like War and Peace 😆
I really like the idea of Frankenplanning with a happy planner. I think that's what would work best for me because I've been using my A5 in that way currently. I like the look of that.
Glad you found some helpful ideas! 😁👍🏼
Can you mix a franken planner with a transformer planner . I think tha would suit my needs. And I want to put it all in a Micro notes. I'm just starting a disc type planner and came across your video. TY so much for explaining everything it's very helpful❤😊
Sure! I don’t see why not?! Find what ever works for!
Really helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Love this transformer style.
It is super fun if you have a love of covers that you just love! Glad you enjoy it!
That really helped! Thank you so much!
So glad! 😁👍🏼
Thanks for sharing!
Happy to! 😁👍🏼
VERY helpful!!! Thanks!
So glad! Thanks for watching! ☺️
Great video! Where do u get the tabs?
So, have a hodgepodge of different dashboards (the top tabs) but here is a link to my main set:
Gold dashboards: amzn.to/2PXH5FO
In addition to highlighters, color fineliners are great
Great tip! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼
I would love to see what you have in those planners. I have so many planners I just don’t know what to use them for.
Check out my flip-thru videos for a look inside! I’ve linked my most recent video below:

I have so many planners in classic and the big, I would get bored and move on to other type planners now because I've been watching transformer planner videos I got out all my planners and sticker books and I'm still buying more planners and inserts. I think I just like to buy and collect like my crafting stuff. I need to get focused!
LOL! Yes, time to focus and figure out your system so you can put your stash to work! :)
What size discs do you have on your transformer planner? Thanks!
Those are the expander size discs. 👍🏼
Great information.
Glad you found it useful! 👍🏼
This was an AWESOME video.... I learned s0o0o Much!!!!
Glad to hear it! 😁👍🏼 Happy planning!
Great tutorial on the different planners and how to use them, this is sure to help a lot of newbies get started! New subscriber here and I’ll also be sharing your video 🙂
Thanks for the support! 😁💕 happy planning! 👍🏼
Squaird Plans Thsnk you very much fir your reply. I’m excited to get this started!!
And second, I would say there may be more options for the classic size than for any other planner.
Could you show us how you set up your pen loops and stagger them so we'll?
What bookmark was that with the scallops? Do you have a link?
Lemme figure something out for the pen loops...😬 they basically all stuck onto pocket folders just at different heights. I’ll try and remember to show in a future planner setup video.
As for the bookmark...it is super old and honestly I don’t remember where it came from. Oh, wait! It just came to me!! It was in my recipe organizer box set so I don’t think you can find it separately. 😬😔 Sorry. But there is a b&w bookmark of the same dive in that baby accessory pack I bought at Joann’s recently...if that helps. I’ll look for the link just in case you wanna see.

@@squairdplans thank you
How do you store what you've used? I guess the hard part for me is I tend to look back a lot for reference & not having that on hand would be challenging. I like the idea nonetheless.
I keep each planner separately on a shelf and add a month from each to my frankenplanner. I think you can get away with carrying more months if you have less planners or larger rings. That might help you solve your referencing dilemma. I also have a few annual planning pages that I keep at the front of my frankenplanner that I can use to track past and future events for the full year. Check out my 2023 planner setup or January 2023 flip through videos for more! 😁👍
@@squairdplans Thank you! I'll check it out.
