I totally agree I'm a nursing assistant and plan to be a nurse soon and I think nurses should be doing a large part of patient care especially vitals and intake and out put. Nurses think they are far above emptying a bed pan changing someone or even doing their own interventions, understandably they are busy but nursing assistants are extremely busy, I can't tell you how many times a nurse has failed to help me while she sat on her behind and charted. Too many nurses just want to get the work done without actually being compassionate and thorough with their patients making sure ALL of their needs are met not just what has to be charted. I always go above and beyond for my patients even if it takes a little or a lot of extra time, you can definitely tell which nurses were aides and which nurses thought nursing would be a good career with high earning potential and job security smh nurses just chart and pass meds very little patient care is actually given in my opinion. As for doctors I NEVER speak to them unless absolutely necessary they definetly have a god mentality they come on the floor and everyone has to clear the area so they can have a computer to chart at if their patient is occupied they will just leave the floor and not come back the remainder of the day. they are so remote and to me very unconcerned with the actual person they are treating some docs don't even explain things to the patients and they often end up asking me. Healthcare desperately needs more compassionate people.

I do not agree with the statement that only RNs should take vitals or empty bed pans. A nurse should do the tasks, yes, especially if the patient has been complaining of bloody, or watery stools. The nurse needs to assess what is going on. I am a registered nurse, but I have worked as CNA and as a clinical technician (similar tasks as CNA with the difference that a CT gets training in the hospital to check VS, blood sugars, they can also insert IV's and Foley catheters). CNA's and CT's work under the supervision of nurses. Tasks are delegated to them according to their scope of practice. If an assistant or tech doesn't know that a bloody stool needs to be reported to the nurse, they should not work with patients. But again, ultimately the RN should know what is going on with their patient.

Let's see how ya feel about all this once you're an actual nurse. Lots of "sitting on behinds and charting" is really researching, planning, speaking with physicians, etc...You can't complain about your job and judge what a NURSE actually does because you're NOT one!
