I subbed to your Chanel 3 weeks ago n I’ve watched all your videos without skipping a single add. I love your children (Rocky n Archer) they’re cute n really talkative. Greetings to Rocky n Archer all the way from Thailand 🐕🐈
I never thought I’d watch a video on fly fishing but his videos are so beautifully shot, the fur babies are awesome and Bens positive attitude no matter what. I was so happy for him. I always feel relaxed and peaceful after watching these videos, Ben is a very special dude.
Here for the passion you show in your content, not just the van stuff! I love seeing the adventures you get into in and out of the van. Keep being passionate because it's super inspiring!
My Dad loved to fly fish in Colorado...me not so much but fishing for salmon in Alaska, well, that is a different story....thanks for the memories and I hope you went on to enjoy more fly fishing.
Love the honesty and humility of the video! Always rad to see new people learning and falling in love with fly fishing. Congrats and great job on the video!
Came upon your video as I’m taking up fly fishing but pleased to find something more. Great job showing humility and vulnerability learning something new that can be a lifetime skill. Too many young people watch videos and think they should automatically “get it.” You showed the hard work, learning, and failure that goes into success at anything that’s worthwhile.
Sitting here on a cloudy St Patty's day binging your vids...also spewing my coffee, while watching you fly fish 🐟 😀 great entertainment!! Much love from Jersey to Archer & Ricky too! 🐾🍀💙
What ! So many new videos ! You haven’t been showing up on my home page since the video before this one ! Activating the notifications and catching up right now 😌
Never gets any cheaper man but it’s completely worth it! Awesome that you made your first trout happen on your own and without a guide. Couple tips from what I noticed. When fighting your fish keep your rod tip up and never let the line go slack when fighting the fish. Pull in line with one hand grab it with your hand that’s holding the rod and then reach back up to grab more line. Repeat until you get the fish in. Never let your line hang free. Second when trying to net your fish, never grab the line or leader. That will snap in a heartbeat if the fish makes a hard run. Always hold your rod straight up with about a rod length of line out and guide it into your net. Might take a couple tries but it’ll get easier. I enjoyed your video though it was fun to see someone go though what I went through years ago trying to figure out what the heck to do.
Hey man quick tip. Set the hook downstream. On that bigger fish It didn't spit it out I think you just didn't get a proper hook cuz you set it upstream (away from its mouth). Also wash your felt boots from stream to stream so you don't introduce invasive species. Great content just subscribed.
awesome video! 2 pointers: 1) always keep tension on the line, it can be tough with rainbows as they like to jump out the water but always try to keep the line tight. 2) try not to grab the leader and pull them in. The rod is designed to spread out the stress throughout the rod and if you grab the line to pull them in it changes the stress points and can snap you line. Good catch though man!
“This is such an expensive fly” was so relatable when I got into fly fishing... I learned real quick not to buy too expensive flies because I was losing them like crazy!
Love the sentiment at the end! Fly fishing definitely is so much more in touch with nature. I bought a bunch of fly stuff to get into it and sadly have only gone out once. I know we chatted about mountain biking in North Carolina on Instagram previously but NC also has world renowned fly fishing! Let us know if you want to take a trip out this way. We can do a van meet up in Western NC to get out and mtb and fly fish!
I never thought I’d watch a video on Fly Fishing but I knew with your gift of storytelling, the beautiful scenery, relaxing music, and of course the funny edits of Rocky and Archer I’d enjoy it. And I did! I also felt so happy when you started catching fish, like I was there. I love your spirit of living, that you want to try everything and find the thrill in succeeding, while also not having a fit if things don’t fall into place right away. I was reading about Blue Heelers and how they’re known as “shadow dogs” because they’re so loyal and affectionate with their owners and that’s definitely Rocky! In another video I think you said you got him when he was three years old? If true that must have been very difficult for such a loyal breed. But he was lucky! I’d love to hear the story of how/why you got your amazing fur pals. Loved the video!
I love to fish and I loved this video. Your determination paid off! I want to learn how to fly fish one day as well. I’ve tried in the past and you’re right- it’s not as easy as it looks!
4:02 If I had a dollar for everything I've said that, I'd be able to buy one of those flies back xD P.S. - My biggest tip after watching you fish: As soon as the fly hits the water, put the fly line under your right index finger and with your off hand, strip in the line through that pinch point made by your pointer and rod handle. Your finger acts as your reel bail arm. That should help with hooksets and line control.
Love how you think only like 5 people are gonna watch this video but you still made it anyways lol nah bro lots of people watch every one of your videos, keep em coming! Hope you release a snowboarding vid soon!!!
Hahaha I knew it was Waston Lake and the river at the Bellevue hatchery. Hard to catch there,a lot people go there. I live in foco. try the gateway natural area Fort Collins has a river and seaman reservoir. Lon Hagler(Loveland) has a free outdoor Archery range. Horsetooth reservoir is OK when there’s not a lot of boat traffic or ski doos. And another place is Long draw Reservoir is 10,108ft in elevation amazing trout fishing. All places pet friendly and in Larimer county which is Fort Collins. A lot of good places if your ever up this way.
i've snagged a couple trout in my time by accident and i feel like i cheated the fish so i dont count them, i still have photos of them lol but at least to me it doesn't feel "correct" unless they actually bite
The rod should only go from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock when you cast. The line is what you’re casting not the rod. For most trout fishing it’s not about booming long casts. The very most important thing is line control, not letting the line drag the fly cause it looks fake. The best way to start is floating flies and fishing during a hatch. Maybe try a stocked stream with dummy trout to get your confidence up.
Pay for my fly rod and reel rod $100 reel costs me $150 pay for lures saltwater $200 fishing line costs me $ 49.99 back line costs me about $60 then fishing keep all my lures box $36.99 sunglasses $ 49.99
Hahahaha thinks fishing is inexpensive hahaha sadly no like bruh I’ve been fishing for like almost 14yrs and fly fishing is the most expensive out of All the other fishing I’ve done
You not need all that fishing gear at all need old shoe that do not care about need fishing rod and lures and a net that is it waterproof suff at all only you need sunglasses see they water see the fish what see go on the water something thing on the water 9 out of 10% is fish cast in the water you do not need be in the water at all

Great being outdoors. Breathing fresh air.

Fly fishing quick tip: Practice every day for 3-7 years and it get’s easier. At least that’s what I read in a book.
Love the honesty and humility of the video! Always rad to see new people learning and falling in love with fly fishing. Congrats and great job on the video!

I truly enjoy your adventures. 🎄
Great Video. Some how you mafe something I dont have any interest in, interesting. Thanks for sharing. Glad you had a good time.
Love the different types of videos 😊
Keep it up, Ben!
Authentic story, great editing, a pleasure to watch!
Good job brother, just bought a fly outfit yesterday, can't wait to learn hands on.
Hey! just learned this, this year. You need to wet your hands before grabbing a trout otherwise you can break a protective slime layer on them.
So glad you changed your mind and posted this video. I have two friends who fly fish and really enjoy it. Thanks for explaining the sport.
I admire you. Thank you for showing me how expensive a hobby can be. 👍😅

Thanks for sharing the video. This is one of the benefits of van life, as you mentioned. Keep up the great work! I look forward to your videos!
The real fishing show! 🎣
Yeah, it’s a lot of money to drop on something that you’re just going to release! Lol. Another great adventure!

I loved this video. You do interesting things that I can never do. I hope you can continue making them. Love the pets. Be careful out there.
The secret is in the wait during the back cast letting your line fly away behind you. Took me a while to get the hang of that. LOVED to roll cast!
Definitely would love to see more fly fishing
Love this new video! It's so interesting to see you try different things!!! Love to see more of what you try!
You're doing great! I've been trying to get going in flyfishing for the last few years and still struggle. Just a good excuse to be out in nature!
“This is such an expensive fly” was so relatable when I got into fly fishing... I learned real quick not to buy too expensive flies because I was losing them like crazy!
I’ve been threatening to give fly fishing a go for a few years. Great video, think I’ll finally give it a try.
I went out a few days later. Had a blast. Russian River up here in NorCal. No success but I’m headed out again next weekend. Thanks bud.
Totally enjoyed... Practice makes perfect 👌🏼 Great video as always... Thank you for sharing
cool video, keep up the good work.

I’m glad you found a new hobby you really enjoy. Colorado looks so beautiful! I need to make a road trip out there. Thanks for keeping it real.

In 10 years, you'll probably be a seasoned vet, and will have hooked thousands of fish, that were big enough to keep and grill up.
Love the video. Thanks DogCatMan.
Keep up the good content brotha!
🦈 Nice !!

How do you keep the van from reeking of fishing? Do you store your wet gear in the bathroom? Does Archer love it?
Yeah I store the gear in the bathroom until it's dry. Then I throw it in the "garage" area. Archer doesn't seem to care haha.
No interest in fishing but still watched the entire vid coz my future husband is on it 😁
In the armpit 🤣!!!
Crazy how we make excuses as to why “this fish didn’t count” a thing, I do it all the time. You caught three fish fly fishing, not just that last one!
Exactly! People are so hard on themselves. He did so well!
i've snagged a couple trout in my time by accident and i feel like i cheated the fish so i dont count them, i still have photos of them lol but at least to me it doesn't feel "correct" unless they actually bite
This is great, I have been trying to find someone to teach me how to fish via Tinder.
Nope Not interested in fly fishing but you made a good video out of it and I couldn't stop watching. Thanks for another great video
This. I don't care about fishing at all, but this guy makes such engaging videos and tells a story so well, I was enthralled throughout.
@@evilcam Same here! Anything he puts out, I end up enjoying. Channels like this are rare.
