My favorite product for wool is Eucalan liquid soap. You can find it at knitting shops. Soak your woolens and you don't need to rinse. The herbs in it help to repel moths. I roll up in a towel as well but transfer to a second dry towel so that things dry faster. Eucalan is more expensive than dish liquid but you don't need to use much and compared to dry cleaning is a real bargain.

Great tips - I use the sun-tip also!

Great vid! I recently discovered a gentle laundry soap called “Soak,” which requires NO rinse. It’s biodegradable, plant-derived and phosphate- and dye-free. Fantastic product from Canada (natch), which although a bit pricey, provides 75 washes from a 12-fl oz bottle. (No, I don’t rep or work for them 😀). Love that you soak the item for 15 mins then simply squeeze out excess. No rinse necessary!

Yes! I never dry clean stuff and I actually think some people pass on items at the thrift store that say "dry clean only" bc they don't realize they can wash in cold + hang dry most items. I've also recently discovered soaking heavily stained or smelly items in Oxi Clean overnight can make a big difference (use the version for whites or colors accordingly) then regularly washing the item. Thanks for sharing this!

Strangely, I just washed a new (to me) vintage jacket today. It's cotton corduroy with two other kinds of fiber in the lining. The tag said 'dry clean only.' I put it in a garment bag and washed it in my machine with cold water and no spin. I hung it to dry on the porch, and it came out fine. I wash most of my cashmere sweaters in the machine, in a mesh bag, on cold and the delicate cycle, using Woolite, then roll them in a towel and lay them flat to dry. I actually hand washed a cashmere sweater with a lot of beading (in cold with a bit of Woolite), and it came out fine. I don't totally trust the dry cleaner (who ruined some drapes). Other than wool flannel, I can't think of anything I'd send to the dry cleaners.

Thank you Annette for all your ideas. I've been using baby shampoo for all my hand washing for years now.

I use a good old « 100% savon de Marseilles » and it remove so many of the bad stain! Baking soda & dish soap is a good option too but I’ll not use it on darker clothes though. Spraying Vodka over some garments is helpful for bad odors as well on top of leaving them outside

My grandmother taught me to hand wash sweaters and then roll in towels as well!

Great tips! I just spent $63 taking a few pieces to the dry cleaner and I about died.... I know I can hand wash at hone cashmere and others from growing up living with my Great Aunt who grew up in the Great Depression and laundered EVERYTHING at hone, but I still dont trust my home treatments and what I worry about is the wrinkling aftermath... I think I could do sweaters, but the silks and rayons make me nervous....This was oddly satisfying to watch haha!

Honestly this nice white dress must be of excellent quality and would survive a wash in the machine. I'm not as confident with nowadays' clothes! 🤣 My Danish grandmother would wash everything and herself with soft soap. Cheers from France and thank you for your interesting videos.

Love this so much, those are some smart tips. I always have problems getting the wool pieces dry. Such a simple, but smart solution. Thank you!
For the stains I have a bar made of natural ingredients and completely plant based, that gets almost every stain out. Even yellow stains in older vintage pieces or blood it will remove. That's how we can keep on loving our pre-loved items for many years more🥰

Thanks Annette! Since you’re also a sequins girlie, do you have any tips for washing those? I sourced some FIRE 80’s pieces about two years ago that haven’t come out yet bc I’m terrified of ruining it.
