Kudos to StewMac for providing those tools. Every purchase I've made from them was a great experience. Please capture the learning experience at their facility if the opportunity comes through!
John Clark Agreed, +1 to Stew Mac. Over the last 4 years I've spent close to $2000 with Stew Mac purchasing tools and supplies and have been 100% satisfied with all of it. As good as Stew Mac has treated me I'm really not surprised by their offer to Austin. I'd like to see a collaboration between Stew Mac and the Trogly Show.

Man I'm super happy that you & your channel are doing so well and I'm super excited to see you acquiring new gear to further better your videos (which are already great FYI) . You just seem like a down to earth nice guy and I wish you the best ! Cheers from Canada !
Tony Franklin is probably best known for his work with a couple of supergroups in the '80s and early '90s ... The Firm, featuring Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers and Chris Slade and Blue Murder, featuring John Sykes and Carmine Appice. I started playing fretless in '95 and he was the player who convinced me that it could work in rock. I've wanted one of his signature basses ever since I first saw them a few years ago and I love that blue finish and smoky pickguard. I can't want to see the review.
You didn't even have to say that the double cut, flaming red Les Paul was from the 80s. Kudos to Stewmac for sending you that tool box. Stewmac is a true Musician's Friend. Trog, you had me goin' for a minute. I was hoping for perhaps a double necked bass guitar.
Hi Mr. Trogly! I really enjoy your channel! Yes, would love to see the behind-the-scenes of production...the gear you use and process. Thank you for all you do!
A StewMac field trip would be very fun and informative to watch. Great video as always Austin. Being able to properly set up and make the frets perfect would be a great selling point for any stuff you resell. Win/Win for everyone! That Gold Top is a real stunner. God Bless and rock on.
Please do that editing video Troggs! I believe the modern guitarist/musician needs to be versed in all these surrounding mediums. And cuz I'm seriously close to starting some kind of cool guitar related channel, and want to know what I'm gettin in 2!
That’s a nice care package that StewMac sent over. I hope that they can teach you well so you can teach me! My collection in now up to 14 with 2 more in transit right now and it’s time to do all the work on them myself so I can afford to buy more guitars.
I taught myself to repair my guitars at 15 off of the second edition of Dan Earlwine’s Guitar Player Repair Guide. The man is an amazing tech and his books are so easy to follow. Have fun learning and take you’re time with it. It’s a skill set you’ll always value.
This is awesome! Your last video where you were unboxing the Epiphones and saying they had high frets made me interested in learning more about determining if your frets are high and how to fix them. You seem to detect high frets just by hitting the note while it's fully tuned. I have heard that you can't tell if frets are high unless you take off the strings, straighten the neck by adjusting the truss rod, then using the rocker tool. I don't know, maybe you know something I don't. I'm only pawn in game of life. I've been playing guitar 30 years and still learning. Thanks for the tips and sharing about the tools to use for the frets. Take care.
You have the best sponsored bits on TH-cam. They are actually worth a watch and if I were living in the US, I'd be on Stewmac's website right now to get some of that stuff.
The Stew Mac box was full of AWESOME stuff!!!!! That is THE guitarists GIFT PACK!! I’m going to rewatch and make a list! YAY! Stew Mac! And LUCKY YOU!!! Go! Go! Go visit!!
Hey man if you really want glass smooth frets go to the local autoparts store and pick up a tube of Autosol chrome polish and use that for the final polish. for best results use a Dremel with a buffing wheel with the Autosol. Its what I use when I do fret work and it gives the frets a mirror finish.
So glad to see your getting rid of that cheap tripod neck rest, I have one but will never use it again, very unstable even for changing strings. Love my daily guitar info👍
Geez. StewMac came through. I’m a luthier and have purchased thousands through them over the years. What they sent you isn’t a cheap gift. Good on them.
That rocker with the sandpaper is interesting. You still may have to use a big sanding beam but got about a 50/50 shot you won't if it's not too unlevel. Just remember...using the small fret file....the less frets you go over the less you have to crown. You need to hit at least three or 4 with a high fret. Those crowning tools are easy to use....just tape the fingerboard to be safe....I usually use 3 pieces on each side of the fret....at least with a file....those tools you may not need as much tape. The nail file type looking tongue depressor is for the fret ends. To round them. You can use steel wool if you tape and cover up the body completely.
Learning luthier moves is always a good thang for guitar guys. DAMN I jealous of you & what you got from SM!! I need to jack my channel up!! Congratz Austin!!
I have had similar experiences with stewmac. Lately a capacitor to fit ( orange Sprague for free) and years ago, 2004, sides and end blocks, gratis , and postage, on an acoustic. A good firm who deserve a good reputation. I'm sticking with them from now on.
Wow great video, heard a lot of pros and cons about stewmac. I haven't formed an opinion on them yet... Dave from Dave's world of fun stuff sure has issues with them. But I look forward to your repair videos. My favorite stuff by far.
The pickguard on that base is not typical of Fender usually. It's typically sold as a replacement pickguard for guitars or basses... You know when somebody wants to do a cosmetic overhaul on their guitar
Hey trogly, I love the channel and really enjoy the content and information. Since you seem to be getting into better b-roll, I figured I put in my two cents. I think you would get much more aesthetically pleasing b-roll if the guitar was standing upright on a discrete stand. Not only would this allow you to pan up and down instead of side to side, it also allows you to move the guitar further away from the backround. In combination with a low f-stop on the camera this should create a nice blurry backround while the guitar is still sharp in focus. Also perhaps you can film those shots outside to take advatage of the beautiful natural light. Anyway, good luck with growing the channel and all the best.
Finally, someone has the Fret Kisser to try and talk about. Even better is that it is the The Trogly's Guitar Show. Perhaps I should ask for the Trogly deal if I order a Fret Kisser?
I always found it kind of funny that Fender keeps making the Tony Franklin because it sells and is one of the best fretlesses they sell, despite even bass players not even knowing who he is haha. One of these days when I have a bit extra cash I might hit you up on the NGD program for one of the newish Squier Mustang basses.

I really want to see you getting taught by Dan. That would be a fun video!
That custom Troglified fret kit should be available from SM as a collaboration. I would get it, for sure!
That’s a great kit! Thanks stew Mac!
If you get into fret leveling it’s worth getting a short leveling bar and PSA sandpaper rolls instead of those files. Even smooth files leave serious scratches you can feel when you play. There are some good PSA rolls on Amazon for $20 a roll. Grits all the way up to 3000.
Oh, it’s the Dura-Gold brand of abrasive rolls. Forgot to mention that. Light leveling 600 grits works well, I’ll even use 1000 for light stuff. Micro Mesh pads are awesome for polishing frets too. Good luck with the fret dressing endeavor.
I'd be interested to see a video on the editing process, would help us to understand what goes into these videos.
If you can get some training from Dan, you should totally take advantage! A Trogly/StewMac crossover series would be amazing!!

I find that fret erasers are great, but not so much for their intended use. I really prefer sandpaper, micromesh, emery, etc. surfaces
Good stuff!
I watch every episode, so I'd definitely watch a vid of your editing process. I think it would be interesting.
