- The Derby City Model Car Builders held their 3rd Annual Scale Model Car Contest & Swap Meet February 18, 2023 in Louisville, KY.
With a HUGE Swap Meet and over 200 models entered it made for an enjoyable day!

Tim , we had such a good time. I brought my 12 year old son with me. He won 1st place in the youth class with his tank. I was so proud of him! The heavy commercial class is always my favorite. The competition in that class was tough this year.
It really was a fun day and yes, that was cool he won 1st Chris!!!!!! I enjoy the Heavy Commercial Class too, every time I see it it makes me want to get back to building my semi kits.

@@THROTTLEPOWER probably not. I now live in south Texas and really can't get outta town to go to contests anymore. Use to go to all the contests in Louisville back in the '80's and '90's. ;)

Two things...1) I was at a car show Sunday and there was a 48 Chevy like the model early in the video. 2) Someone makes a Bobcat kit??? I have a mighty need!
Cool, love going to the car shows!! Yes, there is a Bobcat kit out there and it is really nice.
Geeko Models makes it and it is 1/35 scale. Even comes with a nice Photo Etch sheet, very well detailed kit. They promote it as a US Military Light Type III Skid Steer Loader (M400W)
I had to miss it due to a drs appointment. Other then the spy balloon I've seen most of these builds

I suffer from double vision and they did an MRI of my eyes and brain..it's caused me not to be able to build a model for nearly a year..I still get to enjoy seeing other builds in a few model groups though. They just look twice as cool since I see two lol I look forward to future model events though. I'll be sure I have no appointments for the next one. Videos and photos are great but nothing like seeing them in person and shaking a few hands..

@@THROTTLEPOWER I hope to get back to normal too .I still try to build though just to stay in practice. I'm working on just shelf models for now. I've only built two this year. Usually I do more. My biggest problem is trying to drive. My eyes won't look up at traffic signals. I picked up an old seashell like what's in the classic Chevys to try to see stoplights. But then I see double the cars in front of me. So I try not to drive much..my ocular nerves are inflamed..my new Dr found it first visit. She's good! Next is a biopsy Tuesday. A needle in the eye. It doesn't sound like fun lol the new Dr wants a permanent fix so finding the cause is her first agenda. It appears I'll be getting topezza injections soon. It takes about a year of them every few weeks to work..so next year if all goes well I'll be back to normal..

Stopped in Michaels today, very weak selection. But about 10.00 less than Hobby Lobby. Bought one kit... register spit out a 40 % off coupon for next purchase within a week. Nice! I'll get 1 more.

the challenger was the car not camerro I couldn't think name I'd to go back look its one on my list the 2009 challenger iv the 2021 on way in post from trade me Russell done i pic ked Russell up NUNU M8 For The 2021 CHARGER KIT so challenger is another one i was going to do Chad llenger or charger face lift on magnum in coming months iv seen 1 to 1 cars on youtube from channel ls that build magnum hellcat and others

Good Lord...yet ANOTHER old style outdated tabletop display format with- UGH- flourecent ceiling lights.
I'm an artist and have been since I was discovered to be a child prodigy at age 3. Art is what I went to university for and art is how I made my living for a long time. I've been to plenty of art galleries, large and small, public and private, short run and permanent display. I have also been an avid 1/25 scale car modeler since the age of 6, and, when I discovered the art of "kitbashing", I became an avid garage/yard sale hound as well.
ORGANIZERS...I've been to plenty of art galleries and plenty of flea markets and I know the difference. The whole problem with the "flea market" vibe of the "dusty old kit" section, is that it's vibe infects the model displays as well because everything in the place....from incredible year long builds, to dusty old one dollar parts bags, are all tossed onto the same kind of cheap ugly tables under the same kind of cheap ugly lighting, giving the WHOLE EVENT a cheap musty flea market vibe. Treating works of art to the same level of fuss that a 1 dollar parts bag gets ?? ARE YOU SERIOUS ???
The "ART GALLERY"...where the completed kits are displayed....should be a sacred space...because it is. ...it's an ART GALLERY, and the organizers would be wise to act like they know that. These are miniature WORKS OF ART...and need to be thought of and showcased as such....as an art gallery would...at EYE LEVEL...with thoughtfully placed TRACK LIGHTS...and in an ambient atmosphere...that shows a certain level of taste, and class, and style.
Yes I know that these builders are mostly amateurs because most are not "professional" model makers who make their living by bid selling their works at art auctions to corporations, or private collector/investors, nor do most do privately commissioned works either. For most, it's a labor of love. But so what ?? Just because nobody has put a dollar value on their model does not make it any less valid as a work of art....nor any less worthy of being displayed properly, on a shelf, at eye level ,under a thoughtfully aimed track light or two....JUST LIKE ART GALLERIES DO.!!!
As a modeler, I know full well what's involved, over a lifetime, in becoming a modeler of skill and creating a TOP SHELF model, and it is no easy task. In fact....It's way faster, easier and infinitely more profitable to just go do post modern splatter art and sell it to banks for their lobby (trust me). After a lifetime in the world of fine art, commercial art, as well as car models, I can honestly say that countless modelers at these types of events deserve to have their hard work and skill showcased in a much much better way than any of these "tabletop" formats offer. I'll go one further...some of these assembled kits SHOULD BE in a gallery of fine art and some of the "splatter paintings" should be here.... tossed flippantly onto a cheap plastic table under flourescent ceiling lights. Organizers...this horrible tabletop display method is FLAT OUT DISRESPECTFUL. Come up with something better already. Go to a good gallery or two. Take note of 3 things in particular. 1) Viewing height. (Hint...eye level) 2) Lighting (Hint...it won't be ceiling flourescents) 3) Atmosphere-mood-vibe. (Hint...it will NOT be musty flea market vibe/yard sale vibe). That vibe is for the vendor room ONLY. The GALLERY...should have the vibe of a GALLERY, not a flea market. Tabletop format to showcase models was a dumb lame hackjob idea back in the 1950s that they all did simply because nobody of the moment had a better idea, and it's followed the same lame format ever since. Organizers, toss the tabletop format in the blue dumpster already. Time for a MUCH better display format.
