It must be remembered that during the 1930s, when Japan was invading China, Tchang KaiShek (Nationalist Kuomintang Party) was not fighting the Japanese invader, but was trying out to wipe out the Chinese Communists. When Mao Zedong started the Long March, the aim was not to escape the Japanese but the Kuomintang. So, in a way, the Kuomintang was a traitor towards China, trying to eliminate a potential national rival rather than uniting forces with the latter to oust the invaders from abroad.

It is brilliant to see Chomsky on Morgan - it is perhaps amongst Chomsky's most important interviews given the audience. Brand is another example of someone who provides a platform for those who would be shunned by dominant media. In Chomsky's interviews the guy on the otherside doesn't matter - he's there to speak to the masses. Many switched on to Morgan would never have heard from Chomsky. A lot of credit to Morgan in this instance of allowing to Chomsky to speak uninterruptedly.
The point made about the US facing no security threats is worth remaking - the US have been in UKraine for a decade, right on the Russian border. The US deep into China's region of interest. Are either Russia or China mixing it up on the US border? The only threat to US security came in the 60s and it was nearly WW3 - consider the threats US have posed to the security of other countries in the second half of last century and throughout this one. Yet of course !the threat to national security" is the language used to justify military action - rather than "the threat to US dominance".

The Taiwan of today is a very different place and has worked hard to democratise and give human rights to its people. Something that the PRC has yet to do. Look at what is happening RIGHT NOW to the Uighur, Mongol and Tibetan communities inside China! Also look at how China has treated Hong Kong, they promised “one China two systems” but immediately started eroding Hong Kong’s democratic systems. I mean, China has been constructing artificial islands in the South China Sea and building military bases on them for a decade or so in order to claim control of areas of ocean that are crucial for trade and then harassing other nations ships when they enter that areas. They’ve also been invaded Taiwans airspace with armed military aircraft with increasing frequency. The Chinese government also makes it very clear that it sees Taiwan as part of its territory and intends to reinstate its direct control over it eventually. I’ve no doubt the American military industrial complex is quite happy to ramp up tensions in order to balloon the us military budget even further. But it’s flat out incorrect to say that china has made no escalating moves in that area prior to recent us moves. And it’s also incorrect to say that China has no intentions of invading Taiwan unless America provokes it. China hasn’t invaded before now because for the past 70 years it hasn’t had a military capable of doing so. But it’s always made its claim of ownership over that territory and eventual assimilation very clear. Yes the western media is disgustingly pro American. But that doesn’t mean you have to parrot the propaganda of different colonial hyper capitalist super power as if that’s any better. They are both terrible countries attempting to defend and expand their geopolitical influence by whatever means are necessary. Though I agree with you both almost all of the time, you are fundamentally mistaken about Taiwan. Taiwan's distinctness is owing to China's ceding of it to Japan as a spoil of war in 1895, and the KMT's brutal subjugation of the local population in 1947, shortly after recapturing the territory upon Japan's WWII surrender. The present government is descended from those who resisted (and were, in many cases, jailed by) the KMT, and a majority of the population regard themselves as exclusively Taiwanese (rather than "both Taiwanese and Chinese"). Taiwan has all of the essential attributes of a state, and its government, while never formally renouncing its "ROC" constitutional position (because that would prompt retaliation from Beijing), has since the early 1990s constructively renounced any claim to represent China as a whole.
The PRC has made clear that it will invoke "non-peaceful means" to reincorporate Taiwan. Although the international community has withheld formal recognition of Taiwan's independent status to avoid precipitating a crisis of relations with the PRC, this does not change the character of the confrontation. The PRC's position in no sense represents an aspiration of unity shared across the Strait. And whereas Russian aims arguably were, at least initially, reconcilable with an internally self-governing (though internationally subordinated) Ukraine, the PRC aims overtly to extinguish Taiwanese self-government, whether by threat or use of force. What can sensibly be done about this is another matter, but the PRC's objective is purely predatory, and should not be sugar-coated.

The mainstream media is lame in their refusal to discuss these topics with Professor Chomsky.

Look, I’m no lover of US imperialism, but China is basically doing its own brand of it too, what with building artificial islands in international waters and harassing the other nations around it. Ask people of such countries like Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, etc. if they feel threatened by China and most will say yes

Imagine if a group of people were carrying guns and knives walking around, lurking around in front of your house every day, what would you do?
Will you buy a gun to protect yourself? To prepare yourself?
If you do, like China did, arm yourself to protect themselves, then those people/US called out: China is arming themselves, wanting a war.
What kind of logic is that ?

I feel threatened by my own country because they are pathetic and couldn't fight there way out of paper bag. Good old England.

Yep that was one thing not covered. Multiple countries beyond the US and in China's neighbourhood have complained about this. Chomsky focuses on military spending but sheer fact is that a lot of what has happened in China and around it is provocative. However I don't really understand why the US needs to be involved at all.
