  • At age 63 I decided to try and learn how to ride an electric unicycle. This is my first attempt at riding a EUC. I used my garage because it had the countertop I could hold onto. I felt very uncoordinated and out of control at first but the more I worked at it the better I felt. It took about 45 minutes and I started to get the hang of it. I'm glad I stuck with it, and I wish I had taken the plunge a year ago when I first discovered these amazing machines!

I'm 68 and just purchased an Inmotion-V11, cracks me up to see you being like me and wiping it off every time it hits the ground. We're both old school and care for our stuff.

@kevanbygate9485 wow a mid life crisis at 71? Haha. Congrats on being halfway at 71. You must be in great shape to be learning to ride an EUC.

Keep up the good work. I wish more people over 40 years old would pick up this hobby as well.

Thanks! This was a little over a year ago and am now well on my way! Trying to talk a friend of mine ( a couple years older than me) into giving this sport a try. He is coming along well after two sessions.

Ya that's good stuff. I just started doing EUC as well. I am 44 y/o and I have been doing it for 1 month now riding an extremebull commander as my first wheel lol. It's fun.

Talk about "Taking the Bull by the horns" so to speak!! I could not imagine trying to learn on a big wheel like that!! I know how much my legs got punished on the smaller 16 XS, I hope your legs didn't get the same treatment! @@fnustudios1781 😜This was over a year ago and I am now riding a Sherman S. Even Rode to the top of Pikes Peak (Elev 14,115') this summer!! Cheers!

Wrist guards are a must. Moto boots with shin protection are nice. Keep it up! It will click.

I'm learning too. Makes me feel like giving up, but I can tell my body is slowly learning each night I sleep after the days I practice.

Good for you!! The learning stage can really wear you out. I strongly urge you to stick with it!!! It will be worth all the bumps and bruises!! Once you catch on it's a piece of cake. I try and ride everyday now if I am able!

@wntofly Thanks for the encouragement. I have Cystic Fibrosis so my lungs are half that of a healthy person. Luckily I don't require supplemental oxygen. But learning an EUC definitely gives me a decent workout.

everybody learns at a different rate-- someone eclipsed me in 3-4 minutes in what took me multiple days. trying each day a few minutes makes a big difference over time. welcome to the club!

I've learned at 44, and it took me about 2 weeks. But you are right, I know guys that have it in minutes or hours, and some (the fewer) even months. You only have to be persistent and enjoy every improvement, day by day.

Don't forget your helmet and wrist guards. You are going to fall a lot when you first learn. As long as you keep it under running speed I'd say minimum gear is helmet and wrist guards. When you start going faster than that you will want to wear the full gambit: full-face helmet, wrist guards, knee guards, motorcycle jacket that includes pads for elbows, shoulders, and back.

All the gear all the time as it's been said! Good advice!

Interesting thought! I am helping a friend learn at the moment and will have to keep my eyes open for one of these ramps and try it when we find one, thanks!!

A few of the guys here local have found some good deals on Facebook. The wheels I have purchased have been new and I bought them from ewheels.com and they have been EXCELLENT to work with. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have done in my life and highly recommend you give it a try. The learning stages can be a little tiring but trust me it is well worth it! (Great exercise!) You will be up and rolling in no time if you put forth the effort. Wishing you the best of luck.
