This nostalgic video focuses on events from the RuneScape era of 2003 - 2006 mainly, while mixing in some content from later versions of RuneScape. Anyone else ever have that paranoia of opening the game webpage, go through the loading screen, only for it to get stuck at "loading updates 58%" and if it didnt get past that point, you werent playing runescape that day

No game has ever given me the feeling of being a kid and hearing the dial up connecting while waiting to log into RuneScape. The time in between connect and playing was just phenomenal anticipation. This is why RuneScape will always, always have a special place in my heart as a gamer. I don't play anymore, EoC fucking wrecked everything that I loved and I just won't even get into that. Still, I find myself on these RuneScape videos reminiscing old times.

I have footage of that screen.
I remember being stuck on the Pirate's Treasure quest while playing RuneScape Classic, because I couldn't find out how to smuggle the Karamja Rum back to the mainland, so I stopped playing for a while. When I got back to playing it again they had just updated to RuneScape 2, meaning characters would spawn in Brimmingham (I think it was) to decide their appearance in RuneScape 2, like hairstlye, color and such.
This meant that I got the Karamja Rum back to the mainland without having ever smuggled it in the banana crates.
I later went on to get the Quest Cape in Combat lvl 69 :P

Here's one I remember. The dark wizards near Varrock did melee damage in classic instead of magic damage. I was training melee with them when Runescape went from classic to Runescape 2 and got absolutely wrecked when I went to the new game. I think the loss of my Mithril 2h was elementary school me's first encounter with gaming balance changes and it's hilarious that it was so impactful that it's stuck with me to this day.
2 days from now I get my 15 year veteran cape. Yet, I never knew that people couldn't craft soul runes.

meta was 2h switching with kite shield. But dbaxe was the strongest weapon in the game.
Your Right
When RS2 was released, all of your account's items were transferred from RSC over to RS2. Players were given an option to transfer them back to RSC for about a week, and another option to transfer more items from RSC to RS2 for a little bit longer. At the time I was 9 years old and played sparingly, and I missed out on that week of being able to transfer items back to RSC. As well as that, my computer couldn't handle RS2, so I could only play RSC - but now my account had no items and I had no way to get them back. And that's the story of how I literally got cleaned by Jagex.

I don't recall the transfer back option. I just remember that a lot of stackable items (runes, ammo) were multiplied x3. I remember blood and nature farming a ton on rsc during the switch.
You had a choice they didn't do it until many months later

i Remember a player called the OldKnight or something like that, who died. Supposedly a statue placed in the wilderness is in memory of him.

Yeah, that's right. He was popular before Zezima rose to fame. As you mentioned, he did pass away, unfortunately. A statue was erected in game just north of Falador, I believe.
It was in the wildy, sadly they turned moss on the statue and after a few years they removed it..
I used cheat engine to edit the amount of money i had for pictures. Nothing was real, you could not spend the gp or trade it, it was purely 'cosmetic' i guess you could call it
So did i was a fun thing to brag to friends. It ruined the community only few accounts still have the mass p hats and some jagex were going to auction
Rs2 coming out was insane. Transferring your character did not guarantee that your holiday items would transfer though. you had to have them in your bank. My scythe transferred but not my bunny ears because I had not reclaimed it.

Another cool fact about the Halloween event that I remember is that it happened at a weird time so not everyone was able to get the Scythe drop. It would drop in random locations at random times so it was rare if you were to ever find one. This upset players because of the weird time and because of the drop table that jagex spammed the drop across the map the very next day giving players a chance to get the scythe.
Another thing of note, when the game switched over to RS2, I think players only had two weeks to decide if they wanted to move their accounts over or not. That could be wrong but there was a time limit on it. I was also on dial up back in those days, and I don't recall having issues with RS2. Sure it took longer to load but it still very much worked on dial up.
Mr Hildebrand I remember walking thru the windy and there was literally 1000’s scattered all across the ground. I can’t remember if I only picked up one because they were not trade able so I didn’t bother with more or once you had one you couldn’t pick up another but I remember only having one. Then dressing up in all black robes and walking around pretending to be death lol
Yeah I remember something similar. My brother was able to find a scythe on his low level alt account but neither of us got one on our mains. We were pretty salty, but then it started raining scythes the next day!

2:40 One of my old high school classmates had this on his computer, it was basically manipulating your client software into changing some graphic in the game. Most of the time it was just to troll friends by saying that they had a 1b cash stack and showing it to them on their computer to look cool. Fun fact: If you drop the coins on the ground, it will still have the large cash stack appearance until you pick it back up. After you pick it up, it goes back to the original amount of coins.
I use to do cheat engine on my money but as soon as you dropped or even moved it in your inventory it would revert back to your old amount lmaoo cant believe it!! Cool video

holy shit i almost forgot about the bunny ears and the syth, back in 2004 when i started there was quite a few players walking around with those items... I can't even imagine how rare they are nowadays because I only play osrs and only logged into rs3 a while back to receive my 10 year cape.
I remember the soul rune talk. One thing a lot of people speculated and talked about was a necromancy skill that would be added with the addition of the soul rune altar
Kids these days will never know the struggle of a dial-up modem, and playing at 5-15fps on a dinosaur of a PC.
Nobody used soul runes back then so nobody really cared, pre-GE nobody was standing around merching soul runes. I never even heard of it and I was top 1000 RCing before they added the abyss when you walked back and forth between the nat alter and the general store to unnote essence, 100s of people all times of the day, most wouldn't even train their RCing and just run essence for LarryR or one of the other lvl 91 nature doubling 'companies'. Good times.
That would actually be really cool to see if you find some old footage from late 04 of nature/essence running

RSC to RS2 will always be a good memory for me. I was 9 or 10 when RS2 launched and was probably playing classic for a year or two when it came out so the new graphics absolutely blew my mind.

Love your really old vids, I really hope you can help me out settling an argument with several people. I played RuneScape off and on for a very long time and I have checked my account age it's over 18 years and I am within the first 2K players to play RuneScape.
One of my first memories is killing goblins in the goblin house in lumbridge and picking up the dagger and selling it in the General Store. I finally got enough money saved up to buy the Adam legs in the al kharid leg shop and was so happy to not look like a noob anymore. I had them equipped for less than 2 days before the Gower brothers put an update out that linked armors to Defense level, before that you would see level 3s walk around in full rune (chains), and I was heartbroken because I did not have to Defense level to wear them anymore. Anyway anytime I tell this story to anyone that plays osrs, they just get mad and call me a liar, the only information I could find was an old article on tip.it/runescape, I hope you can find more information and help me out, thanks for the great videos.
I don't have definitive proof but people always comment about the time where you could wear any armour at level 1 def. In the very early days of RuneScape as you said

I played when rs2 came out. Myself and almost all my friends kept playing classic. The combat system in classic was totally different. In my opinion it was way more fun pking on there. The simplicity of it all made for less of a skill gap between elite pkers and casual pkers.
You're right, they did make substantial changes. I had never thought that as a reason why people wouldn't make the switch but now that you mention it I believe it
Yeah it completely changed everything. I used to always pk on low levels and that was almost completely gone in rs2. There was a huge scene for level 5 mage pking in runescape classic. Level 14 mage pking too. Soooo wish I could go back one day and pk with 2,000 people on a world in rsc lol. Ahh the good ole days. Another thing I remember saying when I was a kid I liked how the items looked in your inventory in rsc. They looked more detailed than the supposedly better rs2 graphics. Granted that was only in your inventory but 12 year old me thought that was important lol. I played rsc from 2002 to 2008 so if have any questions feel free to message me. I know a lot about the botting scene, reinet, skulltorcha, etc :D I play OSRS currently.
You could talk about how people made new account builds thanks to the rs2/rsc transfer thing. You could make accounts with 0 magic with a rune plate body. Which is impossible to do on runescape classic. It was only possible for that short period of time when you could transfer items between the 2 games.
I remember playing runescape back in like 2007 through to 2010 when I was a kid. Got bored of the game and haven't touched it since. But maybe might get back into it
On the game hackers getting an item, I had a friend have an item appear in his inventory at that time he had no clue what it was. Then he examined it, here is what he said when pressed. "I think talking about this item, feels a bit like confession. How about we stop. If I could drop it, I would."
Used to use cheat engine for a while when I was young, you could change basically anything like coins , runes, and make it all in tremendous amounts, like 999m all runes and max cash stack, but as soon as you trade or use the item it will just turn back to its normal amount, but games like adventure quest, meh quests (very old games) u can actually use cheat engine to change the currency in game and be able to use it, which I duped for some while back then
I dropped my bunny ears on ground the day of drop event when I seen they were untradeable and therefore would never have a "value". =p

When Runescape 2 was released, you had the chance to transfer items back from Rs2. Also for that week you could do a quest on Rs2 and it would apply to Classic. I had one of the very few accounts that had 1 magic and had the ability to wield a Rune platebody. If you didn't know it took 33 magic to do the dragon slayer quest. But in Rs2 you could pay 10k to the goblin to get the item instead of using telekinetic grab.

Hey, I'm not sure if you mention this in any of your "only old players will remember" series, but when they transition from RSC to RS2, there was a big glitch and items were duplicated. I remember duping several of my items lol and got a good start playing RS2.

I was legit 3 years old when I started playing and I have a distinct recall of the old GUI for Platebodies and platelegs and purple hitsplats. I also have a scythe and Bunny ears, so I guess I was there then too lol

i believe there was a time where you could use whip to train strenght only. pures used to be op.

Friend of mine lost all his rares and cash when the fight caves came out because after finally getting the fire cape, he thought it made you invincible in the wilderness and got lured for everything.. lol.. he wasn't too bright.

I got the scythe but I hardly ever wear it. I was going to keepsake it but the override only works for 2h swords, so can't even override a nox scythe with it lol.

I remember playing on dial up. Had to wait about an hour for the log in screen to load. However after that I didn't have many problems. Unless someone used the telephone...

I have a scythe, I remember I got it in RSClassic in Fally when I was like 12 years old (25 now)
Incase you didn't know about the Soul rune thing, lots of people thought we'll have a quest to restore the Broken Alter (which was one the few ways to get soul runes back then) to make soul runes only to making every rune and much like the other alter, people assume you would get maybe around 100-200 exp per soul rune as some people use to say for the 'math' during the broken alter as u get most exp from nature/soul runes from your crafting runes runs back then.
There was a huge forum if you might want to try find where someone wrote a 'guide to unlucking soul rune' quest back in 2006 I think , I remember that forum had lots of traction even with Jagex staff leaving funny comments to people messages where people assume that person was a jagex staff lay off work and was getting 'revenage'
The Broken Alter is also know as the Ourania Altar/ZMI alter these days.

Funningly enough, my main was brought from rsc to rs2. I remember during the beta my then main acc got deleted and I was devastated.
In 2005 i was rank 1060 Runecrafting with 83 rc lol. When the quest for lunar diplomacy was teased in the behind the scenes everyone was convinced that the blood rune alter was coming out because of the way the teaser was worded and the talisman image leak. When i found out it was just a new magic book i was disappointed. all that hype went out the window.
My childhood ended when they added pure essence to the game. essence was 9-25gp each and natures were 300-375 each. When pure essence was implemented the price went to 130 each in the first week and nature runes stayed around the same price. Profits were lost that month lol.
I used Cheat Engine back in the days to manipulate my rsgp and it really changed
But the bad news was that the game still remembered my real value and the moment i banked/traded/bought something (general shop) , my stackpile went back to previous value.
You couldn't bank the fish, as soon as you changed the value of the item for example 2gp turning into 10m gp, if you add one more gp it changes back to 3gp, includes banking dropping clicking on etc
been in rs since 06, love the game, will probably be around when I am 60 if it still exists

I don't know if I'm remembering this wrong or if I just made 2 accounts but when I started playing, I remember when you made an account you could log onto both RS2 and Classic (with the same account) for a while. Then after a certain date, if you hadn't logged into your classic account since that date, you could no longer log into it. I remember being disappointed because I wanted to go back and play some classic again but my account was date locked out.
Does that sound right to anyone else who played back then as well? This video just reminded me of that so I thought I'd ask to see if I'm remembering correctly.

Same account info, not the same items and skills between them both.
I actually remember using hax edit, you could keep the item till you logged out and or traded it to someone, so lets say i made 1k gp look like 10m once i traded it to someone it was show 1k in the trade screen, so pretty much revert back to its self.
ah I remember phat drops I was on vacation for that entire month and thought they were worthless when i came back

Just seeing the rs3 footage depresses me, last time I logged into rs3 spent like 10 mins getting 100k slayer xp by hitting a training dummy people set up, like seriously what did that game become?
I had the hex editor item. The item itself was client sided as well. The second you put it in bank it would disappear. Or if you relogged it wouldn't be there anymore. If it wasn't client sided it was a server sided item that followed the same principles of your edited cash stack with the hex editor.

On the Hexediting thing; i played around with cheatengine around 2009-2010, you could edit items to look like any other items, and any amounts of those items. The guy(rsn_subodash) was right. You could not keep the "hexedited" items, but you could bank them. It looked like you had the items in every way to you, but everyone else saw your character as normal, holding whatever item you originally edited. you could even put the items in trades, but when you get the the 2nd confirmation, it says what the real item was. It all looked like you actually had the items, but the second you log, it was back to normal.

I habe quit so many times Runescaoe I event cant count them anymore. Been off and on sind Runescape Classic. Still have many accounts with bunny ears and sytche. I even have accounts with combat level 3 and hitpoints lvl 9. Crazy times. Crazy times.

There weren't many many people playing back then... but me and my brother were real young when this game came out. We not only played rs, and it's newer version beta etc, but we played games called flashglashrevolution and teripets.. Such games also at their beggining. The true beggining of games before these newer games like cc or even later wow... we played everything as it came out. We were truly born into gaming. All of these were amazing by the way. Nothing more than the simple dos games that were easily stolen, or typical games downloaded freely for owning a pc that aren't downloaded now.. Such as the cat and mouse game or the game called chips. A lot of games back than. This style was an amazing discovery and we manipulated it hard back than. Me and my brother actually stole a lot from rs, from hacking/stealing mdos in those days. The internet was and always has been truly simple. But these were amazing times to say the least.

for the cheat engine question no you dont duplicate any iteams it will change the amount you have but as soon as you try to put it in your bank or try to sell it you will have what you started with
The legends cape had a lot of revisions and model changes.
Accounts made during the beta period dont show up in hiscores.
When wildy capes came out one was identical to legends cape and community was outraged.
I played since day 1. Only 1 server and about 200 of us played. Haven't logged on in about 5 years now though
Research about the rose734 incident when runescapes servers had a memory corruption and screwed up the persons account. Was a reddit post about it. Was dated back in 2005.
haha good days miss rs classic tho especially easter event and for runescape 2 beta glitching into area not yet opened and horse brooms
Hex edit or using the cheat engine glitch to turn your items in inv too say for example a cash pile thats maxed or another item or turn yourself into a npc by using cheat engine and the turkey emote at the same time but all of it was for show once you moved the item in inv that you turn into cash using cheat engine or turned into an item will disappear but npc cheat engine glitch only changed your character appearance to your fav npc but only you could see it on your screen. been around since 2008 rs

1-the sling(removed)
2-the statement:all hail the duke!
3-the log cannu (or however u write it)
4-the goblins spot that was behind the lumbridge castle(removed)
5-dragon in the cellar(removed)
6-the tiny ammount of coins payed to pass el kharid gate 😂 (note: that actually used to annoy me and big bro very much since there was not money pouch so you had to go back and get those coins and yep there was no bank downstairs at that eoc training arena so you had to go back to the bank on the top floor of the lumbridge castle. I personally used to kill goblins for them 😂)(removed)

Just saw someone do this (become some enormous NPC) in the wilderness within the span of the past 12 months. I was so confused hahahaha
Correction, when runescape 2 released they automatically moved all your items over. After riots in varrock and falador, jagex made the decision to let people move the items back to rsc. A few days later people realized they made a mistake and rioted again. Then jagex allowed people to move their items back. lol. I know this because i one of those players.
When RS2 was released they actually moved your bank over to RS2 and you had to move it back. Fun fact to go with that it allowed people to make a 1 magic rune plate pker in RSC which wasn't able to be done before that. They could get the magic lvl on rs2 and then transfer the magic page over to RSC.

The hex edit detected item was actually made to counteract a minor glitch in the runescape code that allowed people to hex edit certain items into the game. Let me explain
Each item in runescape has an item ID. Any item that can be noted also has a second item ID that directly follows the first one (11694 followed by 11695). Originally, battlestaves couldn’t be noted (water and other staffs could but not just the battlestaff it’s self). Unfortunately, they accidentally coded in a noted battlestaves ID anyways. This is where things get weird
If you were to edit a battlestaff into a noted one through cheat engine, it would actually drop the original battlestaff to the floor. You could then deposit the noted battlestaff and pick up the one on the ground. Oddly enough this was the only glitch that worked with cheat engine past an update they made during classic.
EDIT: forgot to add this was only a temporary hotfix, since they thought cheat engine had been outlawed as a means of editing the game code
