I've been aiming to get a cybperunk 2020 bookset. Does the core book come with everything you need to start up a game, or is there anything else that's needed?
I've never played a tabletop game before. How does it work? Are they making up the story as they play?
Sort of. The GM creates a story, based off of how the characters react to the story he will improvise, but most of the NPC encounters are planned. To answer your question, it is half almost completely improvised.
I ran this pretty much threw the 90's. And just started a group up.

I would've liked a full non edited version of this ign. Why so many cuts? I'm not into table top games but I love the setting. It's cool seeing how people in 1988 portrayed 2020.

"Mike, please start murdering us" at 2:39 hits the nail on the head! The game can be highly lethal. If you don't play smart, you'll end up as just another iced nobody. The acid rain cleans your remains off the pavement and by first light it's like you never even existed. Life's cheaper than drugs and only the ones holding power reap the benefit in the end. I hope the video game will carry on that uncaring nature of the cyberpunk dystopia.

Third IGN knows what they're doing and precisely did not include any disclaimer in the title itself.
@Paktra Productions : Yes they've confirmed it time and time again that 2077 is a sequel to 2020, they brought the creator of 2020 on board to help with overall world setting and some of the more cybery elements, they've posted multiple articles about this fact. Further more no disclaimer needed, Cyberpunk 2020 isnt 2077

This dude's passion is what would make playing this that much better. With an RPG like this, the more descriptive and dedicated you are, the better the game will play. You feel more immersed into what's going on as this story plays out in great detail in your head. Man this would be fun.
I would absolutely love to play DnD with Mike as the dm. This guy is so energetic and descriptive and simply fun.
He was really fantastic - hopefully we'll bring him back for another round someday!

ChyroBeast That was actually a problem for people 30 years ago. Now the internet makes connecting people easier than ever before in history. You can even webchat Pen & Paper. Make it happen.
Look for a group on Roll20. Pretty sure there's a few GMs who are always keen on finding players.
join social fan sights and find other people to play online over apps like roll 20 or table top ! many people play table top rpg`s online like dnd cyberpunk and vampire the masquerade

I've always been interested in table-top games. The whole nature of it fascinated me. This is awesome to witness!
They're great! Grab a group of people and give it a shot sometime, I can't recommend it enough.
I enjoy video games but pen and paper is just superior in so many ways. My son was glued to his computer until I convinced him to try Dungeons and Dragons. One play session and he was hooked. Our group is now playing Gamma World using the GURPS rule set and after an accident with a time field manipulation mutation they find themselves in a cyberpunk like setting in an alternate timeline where the war never happened. In PnP your brain is the CPU your imagination the GPU, your dice the controller and the rule set the game engine.
Gamma World? Man, talk about starting at the top with D&D and plummeting to the bottom with Gamma World.
@@borderlands10 Gamma World first edition lore, GURPS rule set. It works very well. Mutations are random and cost no character points and PSH gain 20 extra character points and some radiation resistance.
That actually sounds pretty nifty, Gamma World always left a sour taste in my mouth similar to Pathfinder.

All the dislikes and negative comments seem to be from illiterate, narrow minded, uncultured kids who can't and don't want to understand the concept of games that aren't on a screen and who don't appreciate the brilliance and nuances of Mike Pondsmith's original creation.
Tbh if you don't even care about the history of Mike Pondsmith's pen and paper RPG, Cyberpunk 2020, that was the inspiration behind and the reason for the creation of Cyberpunk 2077, and leave disparaging remarks about it, you barely even deserve to play 2077 when it comes out.

Jay Croker just because no one has ever played a pen and paper game (because that’s not a thing anymore) doesn’t mean they do t deserve to play the video game. Kids now have been brought up on video games so it’s not their fault that modern technology has made it so pen and paper games are nonexistent.
I like the atmosphere of this run. Light-hearted casual ultraviolence.

It's definitely fun but a little dated, these days I think Savage Worlds and it's cyberpunk themes is the best for cyberpunk. That said a new version of 2020 is rumored to be coming out some times sooonish.
Cyberpunk RED is supposed to be out this December(ish), which is definitely more streamlined than 2020.

Tabletop RPG’s are where all of the great story and custom character driven video games come from. I can’t wait for 2077, it looks like it’s going to be incredible.
