@@majy1735 Not sure what you mean- the texts are the ordinary and proper of the Mass. This work and others like it were written with the intention of being performed during Mass. I can agree that there are tendencies for the congregation to listen to the music for enjoyment solely, but this argument can be made for any number of sacred pieces. With a holy priest and devout congregation, this music serves to lift the mind to something much greater than itself, and lends gravity to the sacrifice of the Mass.
@@majy1735 Are you accustomed to the Novus Ordo Mass? There are Solemn High Masses done in the Traditional Latin Mass Community and in the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter where great effort is undertaken to have an excellent organist, choir master, choir/schola, and excellent musical composition and composer. The music along with candles, incense, prayers, and liturgy on the high altar and in the sanctuary are meant to draw worshiper's to the Divine and the Holy Presence of God in the Mass.
As opposed to the guitar bands and rock concerts which occupy the current Novus Ordo? At least the music in this mass is FAR more beautiful and glorifying to God.
@@jacobweber7078 In the Diocese of Rochester and at least some other Dioceses in the United States that I am aware of, it is common for priests to wear a biretta during Mass, taking it off and putting it back on, during different parts of the liturgy -for the Traditional Latin Mass and for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.
I know I am quite late on this, but there is a long tradition in the church of Canons wearing 4 horned birettas. You can see this botg with the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius and Norbertine Canons who also wear a 4 horned (white) biretta.
Thank you God for your graces, and protect our priest.
Civilization, truth, beauty.
Deo gratias
Can anyone in the "TH-cam" world fan base tell me how old is this Church, St.John Cantius?
It is from the 19th century, if I'm not mistaken. There is a page on Wikipedia that has the right information
Chicago, Illinois
Did a priest actually offer Mass while this concert was taking place?
Ma J'y It’s not uncommon to find masses written for orchestra and choir.
Jack Vandewinckel, I know of course but I mean this is alright in a concert hall, not a church. It's hardly liturgical.

They should not be wearing four-rimmed birettas.
Why?

@@evangallagher5536. I don't think they are actual Canons like the Norbertines are.

You can't even do the chanted responses because Mozart or whatever this is (should be Gregorian) is blasting over the priest.
