    As a magician and magic consultant for tv/ film for 30 years, i can say you are 100% spot on. None of this is new though and has been standard card cheating technique for over a hundred years. The pickup stack is dangerous in poker and pairs perfectly with the push through shuffle. Stack it on the offbeat as cards are cleared. Then fake the shuffle and then deal your winning hand.

      Yeah. Poker players don’t know any of this stuff. And they should in terms of protecting themselves. But as for the legends dealer…. I was shocked the guy jammed that slug in right out in the open. And then didn’t even do a false box or the old up the ladder to show a stripping action. He just said …. “nobody’s watching… I’m just gonna go skip a few steps!” Lol.

      @@HoustonCurtisKardsharp played a bit of friendly poker game when it was kind of beginning to grow on TV and yes even in non fraudulous games there is some bad beats and weird stuff.With that said i did some 100$ entry tournaments with 7-9 other guys and in of of those i am 120% convinced he dealer was a cheat.Slick with the cards,relax and i could just ask myself why would a talented professional dealer almost manipulating cards like a magician would be working in almost hidden poker room making 50$ for his evening of dealing. That one hand where only 1 card was beating my already strong hand,J of spades,has he cut for the river he paused a fraction of second and our eyes locks and i knew i was done,and i knew that he knew i was done and he turns the J of spades on the river.Finished 5th that night,on the bubble again no money for me. I won 1 week 600$ lost like 4 times and after that J of spades event that bubble me again i never went back.
      That indian guy was a cheat but he was very friendly not looking suspicious.

    Thanks so much for this video. I play poker at a local poker house in Austin and when I heard the story of a card mechanic in a Houston it made me sick to my stomach because if this is going on in Houston, I am sure it must be going on in other card rooms. This really bad for the game of poker. Thanks again KardSharp as the mechanics are scared of people like you exposing them on the internet. And tonight when I play 1/2, I am going to make sure the dealers follow the exact steps you just showed on proper way to shuffle. If they refuse to follow protocol, I will also break protocol and stop tipping dealers who refuse to shuffle a deck properly. I am going to send your video to all the poker players in the card room tonight so everyone is aware of how serious of a problem this could be. Also going to speak to manager of card room to make sure his dealers all watch this video. You have a new subscriber!!

      thank you @director2bob. Yes... keep your dealers accountable! Most dealers are on the square... and when playing low stakes, most mechanics hustling at that level will not be able to even come close to beating the normal dealing procedure. only a master level cheat can beat it...and I don't see any "Million Dollar Mechanics" looking to take down lower stakes games. But several chumps will try and guys with only one or two moves.

    Thanks for the video. Can you tell me why it's important for the dealer to do a one handed cut?

  • @BrandonCharlz
    @BrandonCharlz หลายเดือนก่อน

    What does the placement of the cut card in front of the deck have to do with ANYTHING here? I am both a magician as well as an ex poker dealer and I do not remember placement of the cut card being specified anywhere in the standard shuffling procedure.

    • @HoustonCurtisKardsharp
      @HoustonCurtisKardsharp  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Many card rooms don’t enforce it, but they always do after consulting with me. Imagine (for instance) you are doing a push thru shuffle. On the last riffle you could easily make the cut coming out of the push through straight to the cut card (only if the card is already sitting out front.. .because you can’t clear your hands from the deck to grab the cut card as it would reveal the false shuffle protruding through. By having it sitting to the dealers left, it forces us to take hands off the deck and make a one handed cut. Just one of the many subtle things that allow games to get cheated when they go unchecked. If you watched the video you should understand what I’m talking about. Thanks for your question! Btw… if you deal in a card room that uses electronic shufflers, then having the cut card off to the side isn’t really necessary. But even then it’s a bad habit that should be avoided.

    • @HoustonCurtisKardsharp
      @HoustonCurtisKardsharp  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Chip. Good question. The wash can be manipulated. But even if the mechanic isn’t skilled enough to do it, the was only happens at the top of a set up or occasionally upon a players request. Outside of that, the board is ripe for pick up culls and discard culls allowing the mechanic to stack and control. But proper sealing and deck handling procedures can deter these methods greatly.

  • @johannessmithenstein
    @johannessmithenstein 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Really interesting. Even to untrained eyes this is some obviously sketchy dealing. Just the way he cuts while still holding the other end of the deck is so nonstandard. The other guy you exposed was a lot slicker. Do you think there's any risk of shuffle machines being used for cheating? The newer ones advertise the capability of sorting the deck meaning they could theoretically sort it in any order. The cut would be the only barrier to get through.

    • @HoustonCurtisKardsharp
      @HoustonCurtisKardsharp  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The safest way to deal with shuffling machines is to still give the cards one riffle shuffle out of the shuffler, then go to the cut. Otherwise, the cut alone is easily overcome. That cheating tech already exists. But it can’t beat one riffle then a cut.

    • @jasonfullerton7763
      @jasonfullerton7763 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hacking shuffle machines to cheat requires physical access to the device, but is possible. It is unlikely anyone would have the necessary access and have the proper risk/reward to hack one at a casino poker room. I would be VERY suspicious of a shuffler at a private game.

    I’ve always wondered about the card shuffling machines that could stack the deck.
    I’m aware that they cut the deck after getting them from the shuffling machine but could the cards with the RFID chips in them,be detected by a reader that could tell which seat is going to win the hand?
    I’ve seen some live streaming poker games that has me wondering how people can make these atrocious calls and win 40-100k in one hand.
    They do this several times over a few months.
    I’m loosing trust in the game.
    Thanks for your information about this.

    • @HoustonCurtisKardsharp
      @HoustonCurtisKardsharp  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn’t need an rfid. Only a signal from a cheat who is part of the cheating team. For instance, if a shuffle master is compromised….It knows the order of the deck already…and therefore assuming it gets hacked, the following would occur. The first player on the team sends the hacker the value and suit of his first card, the hacker puts that into the software which automatically recalculates the order of the cards after the cut. Then sends the hacker the list of hands which he signals to the team who is at the table.nit it takes more than simply hacking the machine. The machine must be tampered with, which requires a lot of criminal behavior. The odds of this happening are slim. It does happen. But is very rare. If you suspect a machine has been compromised simply instruct your dealer to give the deck one table riffle shuffle after it comes out of the shuffle machine. This will thwart off any compromised knowledge from the suspected cheats.

    • @michaelwillis4532
      @michaelwillis4532 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only other possible explanation is that,since the control room that is running the graphics for the livestream on tv,has direct communication with the dealer who is wearing a headset,the dealer is signaling to the player the appropriate actions.
      Once the players cards are placed in the RFID reader and the control room knows everyone’s cards,the dealer could be told what is the winning hand on the flop,turn and the river.
      I’m suspicious about it bc they rarely throw away a winning hand preflop and they often raise with seemingly middling hands and end up winning with both.
      Thanks for your previous response.

    respect the grind, good content. but u gotta work on some basic production stuff. the audio levels r all over the place. your intro animation music is loud/normal vollume but then ur actual speaking volume is like 3 times quieter. stuff like that is as simple as giving the video a quick listen through wherever theres a new recording/audio source, and then turning up or down the gain to match the preceding clip. stuff like that goes a long way to keeping viewer retention and in turn the growth of ur channel

I'm curious... do you watch the videos on TH-cam (like mine) on your smart TV or on a device? How are you listening to the audio?

But I was also young and stupid and really wanted to book an even 100k win for the night. So …. I placed one more bet. Lost. Then another and another. Next thing I know, I’ve lost the 100k and was stuck another 100k. The night ended with my casino host taking me into the watch shop at the mirage after hours and he just said…. “Pick one”. Unfortunately that information was never supplied. But keep in mind, it wouldn't necessarily prove the recipient of the pot was cheating. The dealer could have been controlling the cards for a red, black flop bet amongst other players, or could have been dealing the winner to the biggest tipper at the table, etc. The hardline proof is that the dealer is cheating beyond a shadow of a doubt. Unless we catch the dealer chopping up money with a player in the parking lot, the collusion would be difficult to prove.

      @@bccsivxx-xxivvii it all depends on the stakes. I've known cheats who ONLY cheat on prop bets. One in particular used a peek and a second deal to push the odds in the favor of his partner, they were betting a hundred bucks per flop. The cheating method gave the cheats a huge edge but didn't guarantee them to win every flop. Still, imagine how much money that can add up to over the course of a single session. About a year ago a casino (who I can't name) hired me to investigate a jackpot win. The dealer went straight from the Box (skipping the final riffle) to the cut card and dealt a jackpot bad beat hand to a notoriously big tipper. About 3 years after I started learning sleights, still no one knew that I practice and learn, my wife and a few of my friends loved to play holdem and at one point my wife asked me to replace her for a few hands. And of course I had to try, after a few hands there was a pair of jacks in my lap (it's easy to replace them when no one minds that you put the cards and hands under the table, but no one expects me to cheat). In the end, I paid for the tip and the drinks and told myself that I would never play for money again, not even these kind of friendly games. While another might appear to be hot or miss, gets super lucky one night and u lucky the next. But my guess is, whoever is partnering in Texas…. True, but shuffle tracking for blackjack is much different in application of the Information than it would be for poker. If the dealer follows all standard procedures, the shuffle should be fair. Casinos prefer shufflers moreso because of the speed and how many extra hands it provides for the rake per hour. But yes, a weak dealer who exposes cards and shuffles sloppy, is an open target for tracking advantage play.

    I’ve reported several times bad dealer performance.
    Players are worse. No policing the dealer or flashing their cards. I warn players beside me once that I can see their cards. After that, too bad.
    Some may think this is cheating, but it’s been ingrained in me to watch the cards everywhere.
    ( Blame my Dad. Sitting at 1st base BJ once with a sloppy dealer- in the days they physically looked at the hole card- He was doing well until the pit boss whispered in the dealers ear. Never saw another card. )

    • @HoustonCurtisKardsharp
      @HoustonCurtisKardsharp  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Respectfully, I think you are misinterpreting my stance completely. I “personally” would warn someone every time he or she exposed his or her hole cards. Thats me. But I’m talking about “the masses”. We can’t expect, nor should we expect everyone to approach the game this way. Conversely how can you penalize someone who is fairly playing a game with no intention of cheating but inadvertently sees someone’s hole cards while making a decision about a hand? Example: If I raise pre-flop with two queens and the guy to my left, who I have warned about exposing his hole cards looks down at two aces, but exposes his hole cards in a way that clearly puts them in my line of vision, is it anymore wrong for me to lay my hand down after his re-raise than it would be if he exposed two jacks? Suppose the latter happened and I then moved all in and said out loud to the table, “I warned you about exposing your hole cards”. Should I forgo my hand because he didn’t heed my warning? I think you are mistaking the difference between someone purposely rubbernecking and trying to see someone’s hole cards vs someone who has been warned. For that matter, imagine it happening for the first time where someone exposes his hole cards in the middle of a hand with you. Do you stop the action and bring a floor person over? I suppose that is your right, but don’t you think that is an unrealistic expectation which is unfair to place on the person who is simply there to play the game? Now, if a player is drunk and playing with their cards face up on the table and no one is trying to put a stop to it.., (which I’ve seen happen at a super high stakes game in Bobby’s room at the Bellagio) then yes, I would agree with you… at that point the floor should be called to make a ruling. In the game I saw, the player was clearly inebriated, playing with cards face up against some of the most respected pros in the world and no one called the floor. No one asked him to turn his cards face down. They were going to let him go dead broke. I didn’t think it was right and I pulled the guy out of the game, more than once as he was a friend. But ultimately it’s not our job to help improve the way the guy next to us plays poker. And it’s naive to think such a responsibility should ever be put on the players in a game that is being scored by money. Sure… don’t allow rubbernecking in a game. The house can certainly create a set of rules for that. But no poker room is ever going to implement a rule where, if you’ve warned a player about exposing hole cards who keeps doing it, that you now have to close your eyes to avoid seeing them because he didn’t heed your warning. No rule will ever be enforced that punishes someone for NOT speaking up when someone is exposing his hole cards. Is it the moral thing to do? Sure. No one is disputing that. Is it realistic? Of course it isn’t. How could you even enforce such a standard? Your comment comes off as a display of self righteousness. The best advice is to know this… if I expose my hole cards, someone is gonna use that against me. So I need to learn to stop exposing my hole cards. It’s on me! And I can’t punish others for not continuing to warn me to play properly.

    Don't they use machines to shuffle?

      Many poker rooms do. It’s an expensive license and unrealistic for large tournaments though. Casinos prefer them because they spit out more hands per hour allowing more money to be made on the take. But the expense is sometimes cost prohibitive and the shuffler companies only license their machines to regulated casinos. Texas is unregulated.

    This is why I won't play in any poker game that doesn't use the shuffle machine.

    If the dealer can see the cards when he’s shuffling,he’s cheating 😊

      A great tip…. Always watch the dealer when shuffling. Just like we watch players as they check their hole cards, you should burn this into your habits at a poker table. :)

    Even a person like me who doesn't handle cards can see what's going on.

    I’ve gambled the past 30 years of my life, I studied magic as a teen into my early 20s so I know what to look for. I’ve played at many shady places throughout the years. I just want to say that is some of the worst card mechanic skills I’ve ever seen. I’m surprised he still has his life let alone his thumbs.

      Yeah…. One comment really cracked me up… a guy said … a push thru like that is giving us honest cheats a bad name. Lol. I don’t know what’s worse, his push thru or his blatant grabbing of a giant slug off the bottom and ramming it under another slug on the top. Dude had some brass balls, I’ll give him that.
