I taught a prestidigitator friend of mine, who was into card magic, Magic the Gathering. In 1994-5 we went around stores and local events to see if anyone would suspect him of cheating. For two years worth of weekends, he was only called out three times, 3 in nearly 200 days of play, at maybe 15-20 games a day.

Great fresh content for this channel. I'll always enjoy watching skilled magicians talk about magic without giving too much away but dropping enough breadcrumbs to allow people to do some research and start learning on their own. I really enjoyed fool us when Penn would use some obscure code and then I miss the rest of the episode because I've spent 20 minutes on my phone learning about some new method or performance.

That red deck with the diamonds on the back of it in the thumbnail got my attention immediately. My uncle gave me that exact deck as a present. It was very old but he told me there was a trick to be able to distinguish any card just by looking at the back of it. I spent about a full day figuring out the code by myself and I still have that deck and the decoding paper to this day. Good stuff

With your editing and production team, I'd love to see you do a biography type series on different magicians, artists, etc....people that inspired you in life. Everything you can watch on magicians now is old and dated material. It'd even be better if you did it, while interviewing the person should they still be alive. Let them help you tell their story, but in 4k, not some old VHS quality clips

A little trick to make your own sort cards or short rounded corner to feel in a riffle:
Get some fine grain sand paper or a flat knife sharping stone(I have a double sided 6000/1000 grain stone in the kitchen) and just rub the edge and or corner of your key card back and forth across the stone till it is your desired length and feel.
And after rubbing it flat you can angle the card against the stone to remove rough edges for a nice smooth edge.
Feel free to remove this comment if you must, to not take money from sellers of gimmicks. But it’s a cheap way to make your own if you’re on a budget.

Those interested, the redacted part around 24:19 can be Googled to get an idea of what he’s likely talking about. A device that’s been around a long time, probably before the 1930’s (at least, I found one for sale that’s from around that time period). It’s so concealable that I’m not surprised it’s something still used today.
Fascinating video, Chris. I seldom want to Google something so fast if it’s not obvious what it is. Really makes me want to take a deeper dive into cheating devices and the clever things that people come up with. That shaving of the die was just unreal!

If I wasn't at work or home sleeping, I was at the pool hall. And let me tell you, there was a LOT of gambling going on with pool and cards. The card reading phone is amazing! One reason no phones should be allowed on the poker table.
As to stacked decks, Ben Joffe wrote the computer code to figure out these poker stacks.
In the book, Holdem Poker Stacked Decks, this would be the presentation: Bring out the card case and remove the cards. Briefly show the cards and hand the deck to one of the players. Have them cut the deck. And cut again. State that you think he (or she) is lucky and let them deal. He deals and he wins! They have no explanation. He cut the cards and dealt and you did not touch the deck after he cut the cards. The cards can be cut multiple times, but no shuffles. (Unless the magician false shuffles before handing the deck to be cut.) The fact that the deck can be cut multiple times seems to preclude any stack. Ben wrote a stack depending on how many players are in the game.

The friendliness and eagerness to get a total stranger to come to a card game you're having was a major red flag. Jesus this really makes you look at your local friendly card game a lot differently. People could be robbing you blind and you would have no idea. The tinted glasses thing ive encountered before a couple of regulars at our weekly game started using them and winning a lot more than they normally would. It was pretty obvious. Our games were always $20 buy ins with rebuys until 30 mins of play, so if people will cheat at those low stakes I can only imagine some of these high stakes private games.

I’d like to question the “2” of concrete” comment. I find that highly unlikely, given than the cheaper magnet was struggling with 1/4” of fabric

S W Erdnase, huh? I get anagrams for Drew Nasse & Dan Wesser (just mixes of existing first & last names)... or at a stretch, "Andrew ses" ('ses' like 'sez', slang spelling of 'says').
