I'll be the first to admit that I have of course made some of these mistakes myself in the past. What are some mistakes you've made, or that you commonly see people make? Please share here in the comments and we can all avoid them! :)
My mistakes were - Mining to ethereum mainnet when we could rather mine to polygon network. The fees on polygon is much lesser than a cent. Not knowing Matic has multiple addresses, Matic has an ERC20 address, Matic address, Bep2 address . (Eg. Sending Matic from Matic ERC20 to Matic Polygon = Money lost)
Excellent video Seb. Definitely learned that as with everything it’s so incredibly important to conduct research before getting started especially, considering this is an investment. A decent mining rig can cost as much as a used car. It’s important to protect that investment. People should stay away from using sata /molex for powering risers as they only provide 54w of power and risers require more.
Thanks, Seb. All good points. One mistake I made with power calculation was ignoring the power the system (MoBo + CPU + RAM etc) uses. Also another mistake is when you use multiple PSUs you have to calculate 80% individually. For example say you have a 1000W you aim to use up to 800W. You can connect 3 x GPUS with 220 TPD which equals to 660. If you connect a 4th one you're at 880 and breaking the 80% rule. If you stick to 3 then you're using 660 and 140 is unused. So best to calculate which GPUs and system will be connected to which PSU before buying anything. Another mistake I made was planning to achieve certain yield. I bought GPUs to achieve 1 ETH per month which looked a good amount at the time. What I didn't take into consideration back then is that network difficulty changes all the time (it's been steadily increading for many months now). So now my farm can make 2/3 of the intended yield. So all the calculations you make are estimations based on today's values and are likely to keep changing.
Anyone else always watch the adds in full for seb? Lol these are fantastic points man. I've learned most of what I know now from you! Great upload man! Much love buddy
I don't agree with point #2 as a "mistake". It depends what one's goals are. When I started mining ETH on my gaming PC and did not care if I didn't get a payout everyday. Now I'm mining 120MH/s across two PC's and I still set by payout threshold to get one payout every month because I'm thinking long term with my ETH and don't need it now. Not everyone is lucky enough or can afford a multi-GPU mining rig do they do what they can.
I remember countless number of crashes lol but was worth every bit, learned a lot in the process, great video Seb, keep up the awesome 👌 work, appreciate your updates
I really don't understand why some of you miners run your fans at 100 percents always.. there is no need for that.. the AUTO FAN feature works wonders.. it regulates the fans speed depending on temperature, it has been awesome for me. You can't even hear my rigs running at all..
It depends on what the memory temps are more often. It usually sky rockets much higher then the core temps (usually above 90c on GDDR6X). The gpu doesn’t account for these temps as much as it should and is safer when miners have many gpu running side by side, even with proper fan installments
Can't deny, straight up am "The gamer using his rig." Although I was smart enough to overclock my own card etc. I did totally straight mine Ethereum. Then changed to 2miners payouts in NANO. i bought a 3090 instead of a weaker card for my gaming rig so i can mine with it while im not using the pc, been mining for a couple of months like that with no problems. now i just bought another 3090
Have you checked out how much your power bill goes up? The money you're spending on energy - does it offset the $3-4 a day? Is it smarter to spend the money you'd spend on energy to just dump into one of these cryptos? I'm starting to try and research things like this to see if I should get into the game mining vs buying.

I've only just started mining seriously. Originally I just used my gaming laptop, which had a tendency to overheat because of the vents getting blocked, so I'm much more careful there. Now I have an actual rig, currently with just a single GPU in a tower case. Temperature is an interesting one because after all the overclocking settings, they only go to 50 C at 50% fan speed. Mind you, it's the middle of winter and the room they're in is freezing cold, so that probably helps! Things might be different if a second GPU were installed in the case (there's physical room as well as plenty of headroom on the PSU).

I wish you brushed over the temperatures you should be looking out for during the fans section. It's true - I also run mine only around 70-85 due to noise in my room. Hey I want to start my crypto mining journey and I have 5k to start what GPUs should I buy( I’d like to start with the same models) and I’d like to start on Windows 10.
Finished my first rig: -forgot to actually check how much electricity cost would be in this part of the world.. well.. I am closer to 0.2ct/KWh. -took 1200W PSU, my actual consumption 3x3080ti + cpu mobo ram is fluctuating between 970 and 1080W. I'll have to fork out an additional PSU. Would like to lower the power consumtion, but I don't seem to be able to do it. -PSU fan is the loudest. -Warranty void sticker is legit in my part of the world, so thermal pad.. will have to wait. It's been 10 days, got 2xx worth of ETH from it. I am so far positive. :)
Honestly that really depends on what what platform are you mining on and is that a dedicated PSU only for GPU’s. If you are running a main PSU and that 2nd PSU is only powering those 3 GPUs and risers, you are good if it’s in HiveOs. But, if you are running windows, have three GPU’s that are running at 100% power, your computer is sucking power for the motherboard, fans, etc.. then maybe not, as windows could decide to pull more power. I prefer HiveOs as it only uses what power is needed and it uses the minimal amount. With windows, too much stuff is running in the background.
i do some trading on binance and i just started with binance eth mining pool with my 3070 ti on the same account which is convenient, but im not sure if its a bad choice?
What is safe temps for RTX 3000 GPUs? I got 3070 and i run funs at 55-60% to keep it below 50 C Also which GPU manufacturer has the best cooling for RTX 3000? I know about Asus Strix, but who's next to him?
I am wondering, what's gonna happen when one of the fan is broke while not on our watch. Will it stop mining, or will it continue to mine, with the higher temp and a chance to overheated? It would be good if we could control the gpu to stop mining when it reach the certain temp..
Hi,I would like to see mix mining rig, Amd and Nvidia...Since you start I be watching all your posts and videos...I have 2 Rx 6700xt and few gtx 1660 super...I am very interested in mining flux, I think that is future...Greetings from Croatia 🇭🇷...
My biggest mistake as a new miner was underestimating the noise! I have all of the cards in my Bedroom, and you need really good cooler designs to be able to run them in your bedroom quiet and cool. Just had to get rid of a 1070 G1 Gaming from gygabite (tripple fan design) because it was just to loud :(
The biggest mistake would be to not dual/split mine EPIC and any other coin you want. EPIC has been the most profitable GPU and CPU mining option for years. It's not on whattomine yet got it will be someday soon
Thanks 👍 I was setting temperature target to 59 degrees. Which eventually caused thermal throttling (108 mh) . Now i changed that to 85% and now my hashrate is back to normal on my 3090. Thanks.
@@igorthelight my coreclock temps were within limit when target temp was set to 59 degrees (fan running between 45to50%) but vram was getting hotter like 110 degrees. But when i changed fan speed to 85% it lowered the vram temps and now on 100 to 102 degrees and cc temps like 50-52 degrees.

Hey I want to start my crypto mining journey and I have 5k to start what GPUs should I buy( I’d like to start with the same models) and I’d like to start on Windows 10.
Thank Sebs. What is the best GPU temperature range?
Finished my first rig:
-forgot to actually check how much electricity cost would be in this part of the world..
@ seb, i use 850 watt for 3 rtx 3070...it's pulling around 450 watt...is it safe?
Honestly that really depends on what what platform are you mining on and is that a dedicated PSU only for GPU’s. If you are running a main PSU and that 2nd PSU is only powering those 3 GPUs and risers, you are good if it’s in HiveOs. But, if you are running windows, have three GPU’s that are running at 100% power, your computer is sucking power for the motherboard, fans, etc.. then maybe not, as windows could decide to pull more power. I prefer HiveOs as it only uses what power is needed and it uses the minimal amount. With windows, too much stuff is running in the background.
I'm using a 3060 mobile and I can't adjust the fan or voltage what do I need to do
i do some trading on binance and i just started with binance eth mining pool with my 3070 ti on the same account which is convenient, but im not sure if its a bad choice?
What is safe temps for RTX 3000 GPUs? I got 3070 and i run funs at 55-60% to keep it below 50 C
Also which GPU manufacturer has the best cooling for RTX 3000? I know about Asus Strix, but who's next to him?
Can you make a video on how to replace the fans on 360ti Gigabyte or similar?
Great video thank you. I want to buy a pc to mine/ play on. Trying to do some research first
How to tell if a 3060 ot 3060ti ram is getting too hot? I usually leave fan on auto
i have like 20k usd and i want to mine but ethereum going PoS what is the next coin in terms of profitability and GPU firendliness
As always Sebs very helpful, greetings from Indonesia home miner
Glad you found it helpful :)
I have 1660 super GTX moniac I was wondering if I can max out at 32 MH I tried to tweak it only got it too 28mH
New to this, can I just buy a few ant S9s? and dgo for it?
I am wondering, what's gonna happen when one of the fan is broke while not on our watch. Will it stop mining, or will it continue to mine, with the higher temp and a chance to overheated? It would be good if we could control the gpu to stop mining when it reach the certain temp..
continue to mine until death
Hi,I would like to see mix mining rig, Amd and Nvidia...Since you start I be watching all your posts and videos...I have 2 Rx 6700xt and few gtx 1660 super...I am very interested in mining flux, I think that is future...Greetings from Croatia 🇭🇷...
@sebs What are the best OC settings for zotac 3080Ti(Micron GDDR6X ) ?
You need to watch the part in this video at 07:18
On that temp. is best to be the GPU? I think on 45-50 ⁰ C is good.
that fan speed idea.. thank you!
Hi , About # 3 , specify what is a good temp for gpus .... cause for me its 40-50 deg (cel) above 60 its a problem , what is yours safe temp? Thanks
above 60-65 you need to replace thermalpads from time to time while on 40-50 you do not need to change them
Hi sebs fintech, I do mining using laptop , msi gp63, is it ok , or bad ?
And keeping the overclock high all the time shortens the life of the memory until it burns out
My biggest mistake as a new miner was underestimating the noise! I have all of the cards in my Bedroom, and you need really good cooler designs to be able to run them in your bedroom quiet and cool. Just had to get rid of a 1070 G1 Gaming from gygabite (tripple fan design) because it was just to loud :(
Great Festool stuff in that basement! :)
The biggest mistake would be to not dual/split mine EPIC and any other coin you want. EPIC has been the most profitable GPU and CPU mining option for years. It's not on whattomine yet got it will be someday soon
Where would I go to learn more about mining Epic?
Thanks 👍
I was setting temperature target to 59 degrees. Which eventually caused thermal throttling (108 mh) .
Now i changed that to 85% and now my hashrate is back to normal on my 3090. Thanks.
Isn't save temperature for videocards =
@@igorthelight my coreclock temps were within limit when target temp was set to 59 degrees (fan running between 45to50%) but vram was getting hotter like 110 degrees.
But when i changed fan speed to 85% it lowered the vram temps and now on 100 to 102 degrees and cc temps like 50-52 degrees.
@@NSector_Gaming Ah, ok!
I see why now.
