    Beautiful bike. My first mountain bike was a 91 Paramount Series 50, and it was one of my all time favorites. This took me back. Thumb shifters were so smooth. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

      You're welcome. I do have a new appreciation for thumb shifters.

    To open up the stem for the handlebars I'll put the screwdriver (or similar) in a vice, and flex it open with the steerer. I find the leverage easier to apply. Great video, hope you have an excellent festive season! 👍🏼

  • @riclloyd5172

    Sadly the bars got butchered. Tip for the future is thread a longer pinch bolt in the clamp the wrong way and place a penny for it to push up against which forces the clamp open presto two free hands to maneuver the bar in without scratching it to death...

    • @jeffrutkair636
      @jeffrutkair636 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea! I’ll remember that.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup I know :( I've used that before for a set of lauterwasser bars to ge tthe stem around the tight bend. I got a bit frustrated with these simple risers. They did seem to scratch really easily too.

  • @Anybloke
    @Anybloke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very nice indeed. More Torvi in 2021 please.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I might be able to do that!

  • @gaddmeister
    @gaddmeister 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great bike again! Jealous! With that bar, if you take the retaining bolt out of the stem and the ad it from the other side, then put some two pences in the gap and screw in the bolt, it will upen up the gap wide enough to manoeuvre the bar in without scratching it 😉 Also you are running a six speed shifter there.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oooooo well spotted! I am indeed running a 6 speed shifter. It has a hidden click which sort of works with the 7 speed and if not... Friction it is. Nicely spotted though!
      I don't know why I didn't think of that with the stem. I've done that before to fit some lauterwasser bars that are ridiculously curvy. I just lost my cool a little with a simple riser.

    Gracias por tus videos te saludo desde MÉXICO, eso es lo maravilloso de las bicicletas que no son vehículos que se vuelvan obsoletos siempre y de cualquier modelo son útiles y sobre todo las mtb de los noventas yo creo que la verdad no les piden nada a las actuales y les dan muy buena pelea y más si traen componentes como esos que tu colocaste en esa schwinn morada exelente 👍✌

    Beautiful bike. I have a Specialized Rockhopper that I converted to drop bar, original drivetrain except for Claris shift/brake. It's my gravel bike 😀 I do have a all state 4130 steel gravel bike on order just because I want thru axle, disc brakes and the mounts set up for bike packing 🙂 The shot of the bike with sunset in the background, that's a keeper, get a still print in 24×36 👍

    Nice build. I have a ‘92 Series 50 in marble (DX) and a ‘91 Series 70 in orange spider over black (XT). The old Paramounts are beautiful bikes. Someday maybe I’ll get my hands on a 90. I was surprised to see the lugs and the single G-FORCE chain stay.

  • @TheMirrorGuy
    @TheMirrorGuy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I used to have a Schwinn Homegrown Pro, I loved that bike.
    Unfortunately the frame broke one weekend whilst at Coed-y-Brennin (I think that's how it's spelt).
    Such a fast cross country bike, I think the frame weight was 2.9 lbs.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh damn. No injuries from the frame break I hope.

    • @TheMirrorGuy
      @TheMirrorGuy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonkeyShred no injuries, I had just finished a decent and as I began pedaling up the track the bike felt weird.
      Stopped and looked at the bike and seen the frame had failed.
      Fortunately it was the end of the last day of a weekend mountain biking. 👍

    • @TheMirrorGuy
      @TheMirrorGuy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonkeyShred it is surprising how many frames fail, fortunately many companies have good warranties on there frames.
      Here is a list of frames from companies that I have had crack or broken:
      Schwinn
      Cannondale
      GT
      Kona
      Whyte
      All Mountain bikes apart from my Kona which surprisingly was a steel frame road bike.
      I did use it to tow my two children around in and up some pretty steep hills, so I am not too surprised given the abuse it had.
      Cheers

    A little bit of me cried as soon as I saw the handlebars after they got past that first bend in the rise...... somewhere in the depths of my toolboxs somewhere I have a low profile hankbush with a piece of high carbon steel plate and you could slip the hankbush into the back of the stem bolt hole and then nip a bolt into it and then just pop the piece of plate inbetween those and the threaded hole the bolt clamps the stem with - do the bolt up and it jacks the stem open without any damage to the stem trying to pry it open with s screwdriver or such and the handlebars are simply slipped in with no marking..... undo the bolt once the handlebars are centred and hankbush and plate have earned their keep.... haven't used them in years though.
    Sweet looking build though and love Schwinns of that era.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trust me. I cried a bit inside too. When I first just slotted the bars in they got a little "nip" just from a brief bit of contact with the stem. The coating may be fairly thin but yeh disappointing.
