As a basically self-taught high schooler, I found this very helpful because I have no throwing coach to help me.

@Paul Rummel you need to see what works best for you. I like a big wind up because even if I do bob up and get back down the arm is way back behind my hip. If I didn't bring it back as far if one thing was delayed I would lose separation. So I guess the best answer is that it is a little different for everyone based on comfort and flexibility. Try them out and see what gets you better results.

EliteThrowsCoaching Thanks coach. As a tall and skinny thrower, separation is my friend (after trying this in practice). Do you have any tips on getting separation like Crouser because his high school National Record throw on TH-cam shows the disc almost over his left leg when both feet are touching the ground. Also, are there any down sides to that much separation besides it being really, really hard to get the foot work and balance down?

I am a junior in highschool and the track season is coming to an end so I was hoping you could make a video on summer gym workouts to help me. Thanks

Hey coach, I noticed with your slow motion wind up you go back a lot farther than when you're explaining the throw (you left arm is over your right leg instead in pointing out the back) which affects separation in the power position. Which one should I try, while avoiding the little bit of bobbing you have (7:10 to 7:14). Also, with the power position, it looked to my somewhat experienced eyes that your right foot was dragging a little on the toe before you released the discus. Then again, this was on turf. So in conclusion should I wind up as far as Ryan Crouser and Virgilijus Alkena or not as far like Gerd Kanter.

On the second rotation were you leaning back a little too much? The discus is in the race with the hips, so it seemed fine. However, as you know...you could, you can, we would request...that you go to the ring and demonstrate the complete authentic throw... cheers from the land of smiles... Really, thank you for your videos... I do appreciate the care and quality, the attention to detail, and of course your quick responses.. sawasdee

Coach Matt, what drills will help me keep from falling to the left when I throw? Should I keep working on my mirror turn and land with more weight on my right leg in the middle of the circle?

I am a Japanese high school student.
I throw it with a shot of 7 kg, but fly in 9m70cm.
What kind of training should 16m do to spurt?

    What's your pb Matt

    • @EliteThrowsCoaching
      @EliteThrowsCoaching  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

IDylanRF The quick answer is I have no idea! I know I hold my school record but that is what I threw as a junior in college and threw a lot farther as a senior. I went just shy of 51 meters and qualified for the All New England college meet in 2002 but didn't go as it was the same day as my graduation. It's been over 13 years and I have no idea.

Coach Matt, even when you are off, it is still technically in range of the aspects of the discus throwing. Your preference is not to reverse.

So I’m going to embarrass my self.
In the back you started to bob up and down a tad.
You did not go long enough with your right leg better weight transition into the 9 o’clock drop, you jumped up a bit when you went to zero support.
Keep the discus arm back behind your butt as you came around.
When you pull the block, use a better block with the block leg and try to keep wrist level to shoulders.
As your going out of power pull your hips (butt through)
Ok I think I’m done making as a** out of myself. You know it looked awesome.
