Mori does this "squeak" on command, and more impressively, within the flow the performance. It's not a gimmick. It's an artform. An artform that only she can do (as far as I know). It's basically a whistle register onset (at the start of the pitch) for a split second, then shifting right into her chest voice register, with no gaps in the vocal compression. It's not only a unique tonal shift, It's an extreme vocal register shift, from the whistle register (requiring a most precise thinning of the vocal folds), right into the chest voice register (thick vocal folds). The song "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" translates roughly to "I want to give up" (IE. giving up on a bad relationship). So when she uses her "sizzle" during the chorus, her whistle-cry highlights the lyrics feeling of being conflicted or torn inside whether to end the relationship. Marvelous detailing! Whenever I hear it its like being drip fed caffeine through the ear - it gets certainly your attention.

Love your reactions! I totally agree with you! Her sizzle is used in this song so tastefully. The song "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" translates roughly to "I want to give up" (IE. giving up on a bad relationship). So when she uses her "sizzle" during the chorus, her whistle-cry highlights the lyrics feeling of being conflicted or torn inside whether to end the relationship. Marvelous detailing! Whenever I hear it its like being drip fed caffeine through the ear - it gets certainly your attention.
