One of the first things I ever saw in a skate mag was Stevie Williams doing a switch heel over a table. Sometime in 2001, I believe. It was definitely an interview. Maybe that Thrasher with Ed Templeton on the cover that had the Ed Templeton retrospective? Stevie Williams has always been one of my favorite skaters since then, even though I was always more into the punk rock side of skating because I was already into punk rock. Hip hop culture was so different from what I was already into, but at the same time it was still skateboarding, so it was really just like a breath of fresh air that there was this whole other side of things I didn't have access to with punk rock alone. With skateboarding there's a vast spectrum of different countercultures represented. I always felt I couldn't just listen to rap before I got into skateboarding. Of course I could have, I was just still caught up in the whole rocker vs. rapper dumb middle school shit. My new skater friends listened to everything because everything was in skate videos. Skateboarding helped me to relate to a much wider range of people with different backgrounds and mentalities, and I love it for that. Edit: yep, there's that photo: 1:23

GOLD WHEEL CO made the best wheels right at the end they were called white golds they were widish and 104 duro , wish I knew where they were made , Shanahan is one my faves on DGK rides for Bronze 56K too
My first board was a kalis “seek” board, it had green checkers. Not sure if that was his brand before or after alien workshop. Wish I could find another one, I absolutely destroyed it cause it was my only board for years as a kid then I cut it into a cruiser haha. So many memories with that board
