When this happens I always fear the problem will come back a few days later...

maybe as the battery has swollen like that the pressure between the case and motherboard caused a broken joint or track ? and once the pressure was removed it made contact again ? had an iphone battery go like that once, trashed the motherboard ! :(

      possible

I think the problem was with the battery that got too much swell, beacuse of heat on the back and there was too much pressure between the battery and the backpanel.
I had a LG Nexus 4 which battery was almost dead, after couple days laying on the windowsill beacuse of sun battery got that much swell that the backpanel was cracked, of course the was no amps by trying to charge it , and after removing the backpanel and testing things it started to charging, of course with low amperage but.. it was charging .

You never saw a laptop @5v before because that's not a laptop. That's a joke, a tablet dressed like a netbook.
That battery is scary. I would have removed it and forced the customer to buy a new one or use the "laptop" without it.

That battery is the problem and in it's condition very dangerous and needs to be replaced.

I also had that problem on two different laptops, after a little magic massage on the swollen batteries it started...But recommended the customers to let me buy new batteries for them

A friend of my wife's dropped off her Lenovo IdeaPad 110s-11IBR. How I found the problem was easy but I wasn't actually thinking it was what I found. The Positive [ + ] side evidentially broke off the charge port. Usually the - & + are integrated into the Mainboard but not on this model. The Negative & Positive, - & + wires are soldered onto the rear of the charge port, then soldered onto the Mainboard. In my opinion, it's the strangest way for the charge port connections to be soldered on. I ended up buying a Soldering Gun with the Solder Auto-Feed, which has a Reel for the Solder right on the rear of the Gun, so you can solder with one hand. That's the only way I found to be able to fix this model laptop. I just wondered if you use one of those type Soldering Guns. I do so little soldering, I didn't even know that they made this type of Soldering Guns.

Hi Sorin, maybe that middle screw on the cover was over tightened (you mentioned it at the beginning) causing the motherboard to twist?

Figuring out a way to get this model to boot without a battery would be a huge step. Lenovo put out a BIOS update to prevent the battery from overcharging just recently last month, and I like many others have a puffy battery.

I had one that the problem was the keyboard causing a short. after disconnect the keyboard.

I followed your steps and Bam! I fixed my computer lol. I assume the power button is not making contact with the actual button which is located opposite side of the blue board you were working on

Sir, I think, the charging circuit itself has a 'tripp-off' protection electronically everytime it detected large overvoltage comes in.

The battery is shorting out motherboard. Many years ago, a tech explained to me that every item connected to the logic board can be suspect. Today, I always start bare bones then add one peripheral at a time.

Had this one recently with a strange problem activating by itself the Bitlocker encryption, thus not booting without the key. Took me 1 day to find out that the ONLY Windows to install is a 32bit version... Jesus...

My father has the same laptop with the same issue. I only opened the back and it worked but I have to make sure the charger is in. Maybe the connection is a bit loose, like the 110s you did last year?

Ooow 19v into a 5v input, that has to kill the boost converter that must exist to charge the battery :-(.
Perhaps that lenovo got too hot and would not start?

Just the other day you said the voltage does not matter and you showed us when you applied 28v to a laptop. The current limiter drops the voltage to the correct value. Now you blew a 5v laptop by applying 19v to it. Confused now.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

5*4=20 4 times more voltage. From 19 to 28 is not even one time more
