Its a light duty trail bike where as the trail master with low pressurr fat tires and better suspension would fair better. I have tons of trail 70s i love them they are the coolest! The key is to get the k0 or k1 ct70h 4 speed manual model. Theyre quite a bit pricier. The prices on these little buggers have been skyrocketing
Great Job on your Video, and the frustrations we all face when we disassemble an old driver bike. I restore these and have for years. All my rusted parts go into a evapo rust tank, to remove rust. evan fenders, bars, all chrome if it warrants clean up. I use a brass wire brush after sitting overnight, and even 0000 Steel wool on chrome surface. Does a great job. Forks I drain oil, remove tube. if it comes freely. If there is rust on tube & it wont come out freely. I shoot Penetrol spray down tube & leave overnight. Then I use an old axle bolt and knock slide out. It seems to always work.
Those Hondas started it all .I remember as a kid how great they were, fun & beautiful with their candy paint jobs .... they would go anywhere . We were all envious of the neighborhood kid who had one . I bought a 1976 XR75 brand new $425 out the door....wish i still had it !!
I have a Honda trail 50 I've owned it for thirty plus years It's a blast. Love seeing you guys catch big. Good show I am loving it.Thanks for sharing Ike and Jhon good stuff.
Back in the early 1970's when I was a teenager, a friend of mine had one of these when they were new, so watching this video brought back a lot of fond memories of riding his bike. They were fun but strange bikes back then also - the fat balloon like tires, and the skinny handlebars too close together that made the bike feel squirrely but fun. Thanks for the memories!
See if a local hydraulics shop can rechrome the tube, or knows where you can. Hydraulic cylinder plungers (which what Forks tubes basically are) are rechromed all the time.
John, You could see about getting those forks cleaned up and re-chromed perhaps? You can use Naval Jelly to remove rust from chromed parts. Rub with a fine stainless steel wool.
Man love your guys videos but I don't think I'm alone when I say it would be awesome to see you guys build a old school mini and do actual performance mods to a flat head Briggs! That would be the engine to put a smog pump on! Keep up the good work you guys are very inspirational
*CarsandCameras* You have responded in the past, and I have a great tip for you! Gojo brand hand soap as the chrome polish, Aluminum foil as the scrubber/polishing sheet. Removes rust from chrome, even pitted. Sounds crazy, I know, but it works better than any other method. A guy I know restored bikes for a living, and he taught me that by example.
I use battery acid to remove rust. It works real slick and is free if you have an old batt sitting around. To install the fork seal use a piece of muffler pipe that is just larger than the fork tube and a large washer (you wrap your hand around the pipe and use it like a hammer pushing the washer you installed above the seal temporarily to protect the seal as you force the seal in place). The washer needs to be larger than the fork tube and smaller than the slider so it can fit between the two. That way you will not damage the fork tube or the fork slider like you can whe you are using a hammer and punch. You can dilute the batt acid if you want to, if you dilute the acid it will take longer to dissolve the rust. NOTE: If the chrome has a bubbling texture (rust under it) it will flake the chrome off.
By far the best way to remove rust from chrome pieces is 0000 steel wool and then following up with Eagle One Nevr Dull. The steel wool is also very effective on removing rust from rifle barrels as well, yet does not remove the bluing from the gun. I just finished some refurbishing a set of CT 70 fenders and was able to get them to mirror finish, when the where heavily rusted prior. Thank yall for being awesome -Chris
I used to use oxalic acid (wood bleach) on my chrome bicycle builds. It has brought back some pretty nasty frames from near death. Keep up the good work guys!
When I was a kid, I had a Honda Z50 and later I got a Honda Trail 70 just like the one John is riding. Mine was in almost new condition at that time. These little bikes had sketchy brakes even when they were new. I wore the soles off my boots trying to make the Trail 70 stop. It was a lot of fun, but looking back it was also kinda dangerous.
Hey , been watching awhile great job. For rust you can use vinegar the apple cider kind . You take the part and you have to have enough vinegar to submerge the whole piece for the most part : overnight soak whenever you feel all the rust has been eaten away douse the part with baking soda to neutralize the acid. And rinse with water with a scotchpad or wirebrush . Spray wd40, degrease and wipe with automatic trans fluid for lasting results or you can paint after degreasing. If you degrease and paint might i recommend getting some rust converter wither rustoleum or permatex brand. And clearcoat the rust spots will turn black with the rust converter alone
SOS pads work very well with removing rust. Used them on completely rusted bike rim and it looks brand new. Just have small bowl or bucket with hot water and then dip in and use.
Just did some chrome on some quad shocks yesterday ,use hydrochloric acid, brush on and leave for a few mins then wash in a bicarb solution then rinse , you will be amazed ,just be careful and use protection.
The hands down best thing to use is C.L.R. It makes it look new and is also worth the money... it will repay u ten fold even after a few thing that u use it on.....
I propose we have a late-Spring/early-Summer Trail-Fest, somewhere centralized like in Texas. Maybe we could set a World Record for the most Trail 70's in one place.
I'm not sure of there is many honda cub/c90 passports available near you but if you were to put the honda 90 barrel and piston on to the 70 bottom end it makes a really big difference and and will be a lot more reliable than a Chinese clone. Was a swap a lot of people here on the UK used to do on the honda c70 field bikes. Made them faster than the actual 90cc bikes weirdly enough. Also for the chrome I'd use very fine wire wool wd40 works perfect
Distilled vinegar and 0000 steel wool make sure to let the vinegar sit on the chrome for 10 seconds then make sure to wipe off with a clean rag and some water to make sure the vinegar doesn't pit the metal. This will take some time but it is worth it in the end. I did this on my 93 sportster that I bought and took off all the rust and shined it up nicely.
you can make them forks shine like chrome with some different grades of emery cloth and some buffing n polishing. Just takes time. And don't get me wrong, I like both of the trail 70's but the blue one rips! nice
Man, you were the guy in the neighborhood who was lucky enough to get one . I remember the candy colors ...they were beautiful!! I had a 76XR 75 which i wish i still had .Your bikes worth $$$
Reminds me of my SkyTeam Max 125 Chinese copy of a Trail 70. I put over 2,500 miles on it within a year time. Rejetted the carb and add an exhaust and replace the front 15T sprocket with a 17T Running wide open most of the time about 58mph top speed. Full tuck behind the handlebars I can get up to 62 gps..Surprisingly the only problems I've had with it a broken chain guard mount that got rewelded and the front brake master cylinder replaced it with a Honda Grom..
Use a rust eater like a little CLR and then follow up with Turtle wax chrome polish. It will convert the rust and then polish the surface. Once you have it polished look into using a sealer to prevent further rust. I have heard of people doing anything from wax to some type of clear coat. DO NOT use any abrasive pads on chrome. It will destroy the layer of chrome around the rusted area. Its better to have a small pit in the chrome then to rub the whole chrome off. SOS pad or aluminum foil should only be used when you have A LOT of rust and you plan to rechrome or paint. Best of luck.
Metal Rescue does wonders for rust removal! Just let it soak in the stuff over night and, BAM rust is gone! Easiest and best way ever! Will not hurt the finish or anything.
To be honest I want to see you guys keep going with both trail 70s! Get Ike's in better shape and running better, and get John's fork issue worked out. Maybe look at some power mods while keep the OEM engines, maybe brake mods to make it safer but otherwise, have fun with them!
SOS pads work awesome for removing rust from chrome. Its the only thing I use for at least 20 years. And its quick cheep and easy. Will not scratch the chrome. Just don't use them without worm water.
Hey guys. If you all have the time i would try electrolysis. Remove the chrome parts and put them in a large bin so you can fill with water and electrify. There are alot of videos on it and it seems to work well with just attacking the rust and not the finish on anything. Thats or remove them and soak them in metal rescue. It works amazing and doesnt harm the finish
Wooo he'll yea buddy just what I wanted to see those things are the coolest thanks for the videos guys. Great job. I want to ride with you guys it would be awesome
You need to try an OA bath for the chrome. Its oxalic acid (tompsons wood bleach) and water, google it and youll find all kinds of bmx parts tutorials.
jesus that looks fun. Where are you guys? I we all had those bikes when we were kids. I've run several bikes into the ground from 9 years old to about 16.
It would be cool if y'all put your names on the side of your helmets where we can see from the Gopro cam. That way we can more easily tell who is in what clip while you're riding.
It’s awesome to see you guys really ride these things instead of collecting them and letting them sit like most people do!
love those bikes, looks like a blast.
Mustie1 for life !! Your the best as always !! Nice to see you here !!
Mustie1 thanks
Ayeee it’s Isaac
HI MUSTIE!!!!! Iv'e been seeing you everywhere haha
Hey dude your bikes are pretty awesome too!
Great video! I flash back to mini bike riding in the 70's. Just the thing to watch after an April snowstorm !
How do you think this would fair against our ultimate Trailmaster?
CarsandCameras it would get destroyed
Its a light duty trail bike where as the trail master with low pressurr fat tires and better suspension would fair better. I have tons of trail 70s i love them they are the coolest! Matthew Mann thanks for watching
If use WD-40 and steel wool it will work one rust for Chrome and aluminum
Back in the early 1970's when I was a teenager, a friend of mine had one of these when they were new, so watching this video brought back a lot of fond memories of riding his bike. Bob Smith thanks for watching
What a cool romp! I need a thing to romp with...
Id like to see a trail 70 camping trip in the woods!
Those are awesome little trail bikes. I love the mud drag strip and trails, looks like a great place to have fun.
See if a local hydraulics shop can rechrome the tube, or knows where you can. Hydraulic cylinder plungers (which what Forks tubes basically are) are rechromed all the time.
Good job guys had one back in the day. A lot of good memories
Love it guys. More of a go kart person then mini bikes but still amazing to watch

Loves those little bikes. Had a ct70 in Orange for my first bike when I was 10. 20 years ago now lol

Prolific Invention try a #2 pencil....... it's great on restoring antique guns
I use battery acid to remove rust. It works real slick and is free if you have an old batt sitting around.

Man the tyrail 70's look like a blast back in there day they were great bikes. Looked like you guys had a blast. Have a great week God Bless!!!
Awesome guys, your having way to much fun
Those bikes are just badass !!!
I myself love the SL 70 but that CT was the bomb... Lotta fun. 😁
For the rust on the crome, Hit it with some C.L.R. I use it all the time and it works..........

We have a 1973 Honda trail 90 in mint condition
I used to use oxalic acid (wood bleach) on my chrome bicycle builds. It has brought back some pretty nasty frames from near death. Keep up the good work guys!
I love your guy's f and f references , well placed.
When I was a kid, I had a Honda Z50 and later I got a Honda Trail 70 just like the one John is riding. Mine was in almost new condition at that time. In vietnam my aunt has been riding a trail 70 as her daily and still does today.
I love that 420 was mentioned
SOS pads work very well with removing rust. Used them on completely rusted bike rim and it looks brand new. Just have small bowl or bucket with hot water and then dip in and use.
This stuff is really inspired me to continue doing my go karts an mini bikes
Just did some chrome on some quad shocks yesterday ,use hydrochloric acid, brush on and leave for a few mins then wash in a bicarb solution then rinse , you will be amazed ,just be careful and use protection.
Ike, do a complete rebuild of the engine. Performance upgrades are a must.
ALUMINIUM FOIL AND COKE, works miracles on removing rust on chrome.
I'll try it!
Shows how nasty and acidic Cocacola is lol
Vinegar works better than Coke in my experience.
The hands down best thing to use is C.L.R. It makes it look new and is also worth the money... it will repay u ten fold even after a few thing that u use it on.....
But coke is so expensive! and wouldnt the powder just get everywhere?
I love your guyses video and you are very great at taking these videos in the thing that you do in the videos I really appreciate these videos
I propose we have a late-Spring/early-Summer Trail-Fest, somewhere centralized like in Texas. Maybe we could set a World Record for the most Trail 70's in one place.
it is soon cool to see how much your video editing skills have improved over the course of your channel. great job guys!!
HV Milsim thanks

Naval jelly for rust removal on chrome :D

The z50s and ct70s keep going up. They get more desirable every year. You better keep them both
Looks like fun yall
you can make them forks shine like chrome with some different grades of emery cloth and some buffing n polishing. Just takes time. And don't get me wrong, I like both of the trail 70's but the blue one rips! nice
Best Minibike ever made. My 1972 4 speed Ct70 is still Going Strong. Got it brand New in 1972.
ml2trick sweet
ml2trick Wow
Man, you were the guy in the neighborhood who was lucky enough to get one . I remember the candy colors ...they were beautiful!! I had a 76XR 75 which i wish i still had .Your bikes worth $$$
ml2trick-T.W And you’ve never rebuilt it? How much have ya rode it?

Autosol for polishing. its insanely good.
You should be able to get the existing tubes re-chromed. There's places that specialise in it for fork tubes.
Evapo Rust. We have a tank we dip parts after disasembly and 000 steel wool, will remove all rust. But will also expose pits already in metal as well
Metal Rescue does wonders for rust removal! Just let it soak in the stuff over night and, BAM rust is gone! Easiest and best way ever! Will not hurt the finish or anything.
Navel jelly for the rust. Funny name, but works great at removing rust. This is a great project. Old Hondas are loads of fun.
Naval jelly works really well.
Propane and propane accessories, Isaac?😁
Water and white vinegar is excellent for rust removal, fun times guys
I reckon you guys need radios, keep up with the awesome content!
To be honest I want to see you guys keep going with both trail 70s! Get Ike's in better shape and running better, and get John's fork issue worked out. Maybe look at some power mods while keep the OEM engines, maybe brake mods to make it safer but otherwise, have fun with them!
foil and ketchup work awesome! a good old vinegar soak and tooth brush scrub woks killer to~
Naval jelly works great!
I use never dull on chrome and it works great.
Those ct70's are wheelie machines. Being manual and having all the weight in the back. Just pop some sick ones already ;)
At work we use wheel cleaning acid to clean chrome.... Nasty stuff be careful with it. But it works wonders.
I use a car washing brush and comet, and it will make the chrome look like new.
As always great Video.
Super great content guys thank you
SOS pads work awesome for removing rust from chrome. Its the only thing I use for at least 20 years. And its quick cheep and easy. Will not scratch the chrome. Just don't use them without worm water.
I use sos pads to clean up rust works great
So wish I could come see you guys but I'm leaving Keller tonight for seaside Oregon
Dustin Miller Sounds nice!
THATS AWSOME!!!!

Been watching for some long still heree
I've got a little trail bike in the back of the shop. I might have to get it going.
Wooo he'll yea buddy just what I wanted to see those things are the coolest thanks for the videos guys. Great job. I want to ride with you guys it would be awesome
You need to try an OA bath for the chrome. Its oxalic acid (tompsons wood bleach) and water, google it and youll find all kinds of bmx parts tutorials.
this was going to be my suggestion as well!
All i use is a brillo pad with lots of water so it doesnt scratch. Then chrome polish. You can also try steel wool and wd-40
Man john that thing sounds so good. Im sure Ike is already got GPS parts on the way lmao
To remove rust from chrome use Navel Jelly any hardware store carries it. It removes the rust and does not damage the chrome.
Brown dirt and a cloth removes rust. Old school trick.
Bless you
Trees it and then points out the "russian" tires are squirrelly..it'll be fine. What fun! Love it.
Carb specs for 1978 and on are 1&3/4 turns out on the mixture and 4th groove on the needle jet
jesus that looks fun. Where are you guys? I we all had those bikes when we were kids. I've run several bikes into the ground from 9 years old to about 16.
Nevr Dull works really well on chrome.
I use a product called NEVR-DULL for cleaning rust off metal works great on spokes/rims.
It would be cool if y'all put your names on the side of your helmets where we can see from the Gopro cam. That way we can more easily tell who is in what clip while you're riding.
Thanks for the video.
I appreciate this channel sm
for chrome I usually use 0000 steel wool and Never Dull it always works great for me
