For anyone with hard water, dusting with a brush might be a better option than showering the plant. As the water evaporates, dissolved solids will be left behind that leave a chalky layer or residue on the leaves.
    Thanks for the video.

this was very helpful. thanks a lot. I was very hesitant in cutting back my Schefflera, but it became quite tall and can't stand on its own anymore. So I guess it's about time. fingers crossed it goes well :)

I have watched you & your team for a couple of years. Honestly, I have watched you many times during this year just for your voice and impressive body of knowledge. Intelligence soothes me. This particular video inspired me to finally leave you a note. My Schefflera, sitting here with me is about to have a spectacular life! Thank you. Thank you for sharing your life's work with us & Thank you for your work particularly this year. I hope you and yours are healthy and continue to thrive💪 🌎 Sincerely, -L⚘

Very interesting to know that this plant apparently has a pest problem. I legit have had this plant in my house for 20 years, it's HUGE lol. My mom bought it for me for 50 cents at the grocery store 20 years ago, and this plant has had zero pests. I mean, if it has had any, we would never know because it has flourished. Thank you for this video because for years I never knew what type of plant we had

Repotted my Schefflera 6 weeks ago. The soil mix I added with the repotting (into the next size up pot) is still wet after 45 days! Thanks to this channel, I know that I can replace that poorly draining newly added soil with pumice and avoid this overly wet situation for the roots now and in the future. I might’ve lost this beautiful 4 foot tall tree without his advice. Thank you! This is a beautiful large plant that feels like a member of the family - would have hated losing it!

I have them outside. Full sun for at least 6 hours. I love them. In the philippines, we call them 5 fingers but mine normally have 7 or 8. So fast grower, i cant keep up upotting them, so i simply cut some and stick them onto soil. Now i have 6 large pots of them

I've had a Nora for three years. It's such an easy plant to take care of. It grows leaves all year long (although it grows the most in summer). I never seen ONE leaf fall off. its very leafy, it has one thick stem. About 40cm tall

Thank you, great video! I have started to care for one that was my in-laws. It looks even worse than the plant at 31:30. My mother in law fell Ill and the plant went a couple months indoors with no water! The pot had no holes so that could be why it survived?
My father in law had been caring for it for 40 years, and I was told it never actually looked very good. In fact, when I saw a healthy one for the first time, I had no idea it was the same plant. In fact, bless his heart, he told me it was a fig...! I sent a picture to an office here and they said it was a "very sick" arbicola. Oops!
I've had it for almost 3 months. I've trimmed off all the dead stuff. There was so much! I've put holes in the pot and am purchasing perculite.
What acidity does the plant like? Once I fix the basics like water, soil, and fertilizer, do you have any advice for nursing it back from the brink?
    Thank you!

I have four of these plants, two dark green and two variegated. The dark green are lush and full....but the two variegated plants that have been in the same window since last winter, all of a sudden dropped almost all their leaves. I repotted, purchased a grow light for them and started using a moisture meter. Both variegated plants each have a new bud on top now so maybe there's hope yet. I almost threw them out, glad I didn't because they're coming back to life. Apparently the variegated are more sensitive. I didn't find any pests that would cause this, but I am using a neem oil spray on all of my plants now weekly just in case, and are very careful about watering. I love these videos and appreciate your channel, I've learned so much. Thank you!

I recently bought the varigated schefflera 2-3 weeks ago.( It is a highly varigated one. ) It's tall, full and in a 6 inch pot. When I brought it home I sprayed it down with neem oil, just like I do with all my new plants. I placed the plant in front of a northeastern window. Gets an hour or so of morning direct sunlight, on part of it. I have turned the plant a couple of times to ensure even growth. I keep testing the soils moisture off and on, with my meter. It had just been watered when I bought it. The soil isn't even reading a moist measurement yet. The other day I noticed some lower leaves had dark brown dry tips. When I touched the leaves, they fell off. One of the lower stems fell off as well the next day when I touched it. Today I noticed the small new growth on top was wilting. I checked the soil moisture again. This time I used both my meters. Both gave the same measurement. I checked for pests and didn't see any. Took it out of the pot, soil smelled normal and roots looked good. So I repotted it in an 8 inch pot with some dry cactus soil, to help absorb some of that excess moisture. Other than that, IDK what to do for it. Any suggestions on how to help the plant and what would be causing this?

The same thing happened to mine when I brought it home. These are VERY delicate plants. I don't think they like the moving from one place to another (store to your home). Mine had a bunch of leaves & stems fall off. I made sure it was NOT standing in any water in the bottom "drip" pot. But now mine is thriving! Its getting big! Dark shiny leaves. Lots of umbrellas..but it took awhile to revover from the move.

I’ve had mine for about 6 months. It had 3 individual stems in one pot. I lost one to rot and the other one is the tallest and the smallest. I know they aren’t supposed to get giant but it’s very leggy and doesn’t seem to have much growth. And what growth for come out it’s 50/50 chance it survives also the leaf drop ont his plant is insane. If you even move the plant soemtiems you can lose a few leaves. Very pretty but not my favorite.

  • @christineplaton3048

I have a huge tree stem. It's five feet tall. I topped it and started a new tree. It's the giant leafed umbrella. Now the trunk is wiggled, not nice. It's starting to grow again both from the top, as well as the lower section. I'd like to have a straight trunk, not sure if I can cut the actual trunk at one and half inch thickness and root it. I removed all leaves to see if it would start to branch. It's forming nodules or new growth, as bumps, along the top stem. I did not know it could survive low temps.

Fantastic video, thank you! This is one of my favorite houseplants!
Mine started to have problems about a month ago - never experienced problems with these plants before.. Yellow veining, and some leaves have a slightly flushed out appearance. Even though I don't over-water, I thought maybe it's root-rot and let the plant dry - next, dry spots appeared in some leaves.. Maybe this came from the drying. Now I'm thinking the yellow veining was caused by lack of fertilizer. Have checked for pests and couldn't find any. Very baffling. But anyway, THANK YOU for this fantastic video!! Have added it to my Favorites and subscribed to your channel now. :)

Schefflera has been used as a medicine to relieve arthritis, pain and inflammation. It smells like a herb when you pulls off a leave or stem.

OMG! I just bought this plant today and was giving it a trim. I smelled that delightful
herbal smell. How is this plant used in your understanding? I knew there was something to this. 🥰

Hi I really enjoy listening to your videos. Fantastic and so much detail and so beautifully explained . I would like some advice please. I had a gorgeous Schefflera Actinophylla . It’s been growing beautifully indoors for around a year now. Then we had hot weather and I decided to put it outside for sun and fresh air . It was ok at first but a few weeks in. It’s got horrible discoloured leaves. Some the then have white shady bits some of them bits of brown with some still perfect . I cleaned every leaf with warm water, there are no visible insects . Should I cut it all back and let it start again? I feel so disappointed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thank you

I just threw my 4 year old plant away. Kept losing a massive amount of bottom leaves. That had never happened before. The anxiety was too much for me.

    May I continue disturbing you
Today, I went to the big shop from where I purchased the schefflera variegated and shown pic of mine he said it is a catastrophe because so many leaves dropped after having green leaves turned all black or brown spotsol on the variegated ones.
He got into debate that i have over watered it but I havent then into other debate that it is an outside planr without direct sunlight however I insisted it is also an indoor one and my indirect sun window light is focusing 2 hours on it then keep lighting the room where it is for 4 hours more then 12 hours of LED
    Any way
I got some peat moss as no pumice in here and got perlite
    I went back home
Removed weak leaves so easily dropped upon touch or vibrate the plant
I removed the plant from the 30 cm pot in which the shop has repotted it from a previous 20cm given to me on purchase and mixed 200 gm perlite around 1.5L with 2kg peat moss around 4L with 1.5L of pot soil
I removed the plant was so heavy 11 kg although watered 2 weeks ago
I found the pot soil the shop added to substitute from 20 to 30 cm pots as dry and nice but a black wet block yet hard as rock taking the cylinder shape of the 20cm pot
I did lit of effort to remove that black soggy hard soil from roots
Just a tiny one got cut
    Others all good and strong
Washed them thoroughly under tape water
    Cleaned the 30 cm pot
Put major of the mix i prepared
    Planted the roots
    Covered and added remaining mix
Pressed and knocked the pot to the floor couple of times now weighing 3kgs
Added few soil not from the black one thrown in garbage
Placed the pot in balcony with shade
    Not watered
Now 4 hrs later in the evening I misted leaves only
Intend to place it again back indoors early morning
Not going to water till roots calm down and hopefully absorb water i put on perlite to avoid repeating having cough from last week dracena's soil remixing with perlite because maybe inhaled dust b4 hearing your video about it.
