  • Maria Luisa (Mazurka), Op.19 by Julio Sagreras (1879 - 1942) and lesson for classical guitar.
    Timing: Scales (3:36); Chords (9:04); Walk Through (12:40).
    ➔ From my Grade 5 Repertoire Lessons Book: www.thisisclas...
    Maria Luisa (Mazurka), from Tres Piezas Fáciles, Op.19 by Julio Sagreras (1879 - 1942). In this lesson I cover some upper position scales in the key of the piece as well as a few chord shapes to know. I end by doing a full walk through of the work. Sagreras was an Argentine guitarist, pedagogue, and composer. His many lessons are contained in a multi-volume method book that include numerous studies. He also has a large number of stand alone works such as the one here from op.19.

    What barre at the 12th fret? The barre is at the 9th fret.
    Hmm I've compared several versions of this piece and it looks like each version is written slightly differently in one or two places

    I love that your trying, and you seem pretty patient. But really?! Put some fret markers on your guitar so we can more easily follow along.

      My lessons are not really "how to play" videos, they are more context for people who are practicing the piece with the sheet music and are ready for this level. There are other channels that are all about where to put your fingers which might be more what you are looking for.

    Love this piece. For some reason I always visualise Gomez & Morticia dancing to this in some grand - but long since faded and now heavily cobwebbed - ballroom! Thanks Bradford. I use Sagreras' Leccions books as a kind of development pathway outline. I just love the musicality he brings into the leccions. Not so much a fan of the rest strokes he emphasises right from the early stages though. But that's another debate!!

      Ya, Sagraras is great. I've seen good results with his rest strokes but I teach without them until around grade 1 or 2 level.

    Very well played! I have a question concerning the right hand fingering in bar 10: after the eighth note a# played with your ring finger(a), it looks like you're picking the following three-note-chord with i,m,a thus doing a quick repeat of a. Up to which tempo would you recommend that, before switching to pluck the three note chord with p,i,m thus avoiding a quick repeat of a? Thanks in advance for the answer!

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, there are not a ton of options there. Use P on the bottom note means a repeated P fingering and quite a bit of movement. I would use my fingering to the maximum tempo.

    To get a clear tone on the higher register, should you use more nail?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using more nail is one way (or changing the angle that the nail contacts the string). You can also clean up the tone by moving the right hand more ponticello (closer to the bridge).

In a quandary as to whether get the Grade 5 PDF or wait for the hardback along with the Grade 6. Any likely time line for that? Really finding your teaching to be of great benefit. John Andersson

    Interesting -- this arrangement has different fingering and some different notes than the arrangement I have.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no fingering on the original so each edition will have its own. The notes should be the same though, are you seeing different notes or just different places to play them on the fretboard. The original is very clean so not much question as to what the notes should be.

    • @mrgregcat
      @mrgregcat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure where I got the arrangement I have -- it IS fingered, and they have you start in 5th position so you get that sort of campanile effect. I read somewhere that Sagreras wrote the piece for a female guitar prodigy named Maria Luisa Anido. So, not trying to make trouble, just took me by surprise since I'd been working for a couple of years on the arrangement I got somewhere . . . that was a little different here and there.
