Iyda I just wanted to add that after nearly 8 years of struggling with my natural hair, and going to the barbers for the greater part of that time and shaving it off due to sheer dryness and it looking a mess, thanks to positive people like you I’ve recently made some changes that have turned out to be real game changers for me. So if it’s gonna help anyone out there here goes: 1) diluting my Deep conditioners with water, adding agave nectar, warming it up, and applying this mix to my hair, and then going under a hooded dryer for 30mins with a plastic cap. OH MY GOODNESS ME!! No wonder DC’s never did anything for me before! The molecules were too big. And now for the first time my hair is perpetually soft. 😍 2) making a herbal tea letting it cool a bit, adding my (yes I’m gonna say it 😂) sulphate shampoo - Giovanni 50/50, and washing my hair with it. Hair is clean, not stripped and lovely and soft. A new thing for me. 3) ok, so I’ve tried for years applying leave-ins on damp, wet, and dry hair, also spritzing with warm water first, and my hair just says “NO! NO! NO!” and when dry feels compacted like it’s got a foreign body in it. MY HAIR LOVES WATER!! Good ole H2O. So I just add glycerine and a smidgin of apple cider vinegar (hair can’t bear aloe juice) slightly warmed and apply that to my hair as my leave-in. 🙏🏽 You have NO idea what difference this has made to my hair. I use this as my L= liquid/leave in as part of the LOC method. And then FINALLY thanks to you 4) Wetline Extreme Gel. 😂 I almost gave up on gel. I’ve tried so many, and most of them are not thick enough for my hair. KCCC was the best of the lot, but waaay too light for my strands. BUT THIS girlfriend is my Gel for life!!! I don’t need to try anymore. It pairs very well with my creams (SM DT Masque, and Curl enhancing smoothie, and goes on so smoothly and leaves my hair SOFT. I’m amazed!! I think I’ve tried all of the Ecostyler range and my hair just wasn’t having it. Not sure if it’s the protein or what. So although this message is long, I REALLY hope it can help somebody, coz the struggle is REAL Y’all! But when you FINALLY find what works it’s a great day. 😆 My hair is just shooting out now, and more importantly is SOFT and shiny. So thank you so very much for being such a positive inspiration. 😘
BeaunaturelleFeb11 wow these are amazing tips that will be very helpful to me and others!! I’m so happy to hear that you figured out a great routine and that your hair is happy and healthy 😀 I’m going to pin your comment so others can see it as well ❤️
My hair has always been so dry, I thought glycerin was the only humectant that could penetrate and moisturize my hair. Through trial and error I've discovered my hair loves agave nectar and marshmallow root as humectants. Doing wash-n-gos and using Kinky Curly Custard has been a game changer! This video was chock full of great information!👌
@@IydaChristopher after seeing seeing this video I felt like it was a one stop shop. I came in not understanding much about my hair and oh boy, I thank you so much for putting these videos out here and doing such indept research. I just had to sub to you and you are going to be my GO TO for my hair care. My hair is so damaged and without understanding what I learnt from you on your channel I now why my hair had white flakes from some products when it worked so well on my sister's. I now I understand that I have low porosity, low density fine hair and I need heat for penetrating my hair shafe.i am still trying to understand the protein I need for my hair and understand how to use it in my hair as I have very very thin hairline. And I also need to understand a step by step wash day for my hair. Now I understand LO, LOC, LOC etc. Thank you so much🤗
The pharmacist in me is having a nerdgasm 🤓 Thanks for throwing science into this! This Chanel has helped me save my hair with all of the fantastic reviews.
Lydia I must say for a low porosity hair girl like myself, your videos are beyond helpful and so creative! It’s so hard to find videos on low porosity hair from people that actually know what they’re talking about!😩 please keep up the great work! ❤️ how are you not at a mill yet?
I have been natural for 10 yrs and knew some of the stuff u mentioned but there was ALOT I didn't know. Most of the products u use are the same products I gravitated towards but didnt necessarily know why....now I know thank u, u got a new subbie here😊
I truly needed this video. I started going natural in 2017 and by mistake I watched a lot of high porosity naturals without knowing and even their some of their products worked okay, I could never get the definition. I finally discovered I'm low porosity, coarse and maybe 4b? But the ingredients list were so helpful and I understand now why some old products I used to use when washing - I would shampoo then use a cond and didn't realize they both had protein and my hair got hard instantly and didn't think anything of it. Second, learning how to moisturize daily was hard for me to learn, yours was the best so far as you went into detail in another video about daily moisturizing and emphasizing warm water. I used to spray cool water in the mornings and leave-in in the evening before bed but all the product wiped off on my silk pillow case - so when you explained you mix a little oil with leave-in and warm water, those specific details made things a lot clearer. Now I'm going to try washing once a week. I only washed twice a week and only used a clarifying shampoo but didn't realize I also need to use a moisturize shampoo and clarifying is only needed when hair feels really grimy, product build, etc. Third, and now I know, dont use so many products when moisturizing lol. I was doing a leave-in, creme, oil then a butter but when you explained in another video just start with 2 and use light amount first, that clicked! Anyway, this is my longest comment ever but because your videos are very helpful and I look forward to seeing how better my hair does.
Girl, I'm so grateful. Your video is 1000 times more informative than all the articles that only promote certain products and not giving actual knowledge to people. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this educational video. It was very informative and well done. I have low porosity hair with 3b,3c, 4a,4c textures. I'm still having a hard time figuring out what to use on my hair since the front, back, sides and top have different textures and curl patterns. And my hair ranges from medium to coarse texture. I did learn that my hair was being destroyed by using too much protein in it. And my hair hates creams but loves gel. Is it possible that because of the 4 different textures, my hair can be low and high porosity? I don't want to use for different products! Is there one that can work on ALL types of textures?
3b, 3c, 4a, 4c are not textures, they're curl patterns and are irrelevant to the type of products you need. The only thing you need to focus on is determining what porosity level you are. Once that's determined, then search products that support your porosity needs and that help manage your medium to coarse texture. So if you're saying that you are low porosity, then typically your hair takes longer to get wet, it takes longer to dry, it's sensitive to protein, it gets buildup easily, it tends to easily get dehydrated and needs moisture, it tends to respond better to lightweight water-based products rather than heavier oil-based products, etc. If you're experiencing this only in some parts of your hair, but not in others, then yes it's possibly some parts are high and low porosity. But low porosity products work for most hair types, so I would err on the low porosity side and add denser/heavier products like thicker leave-ins, protein masks, styling creams and oils on the parts that you feel are high porosity.
The information and detail you give is invaluable. Mine and my children's hair are indebted to you and your knowledge base. Only found your channel approximately 3 weeks ago and i can see changes already. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I was under the impression I had High Porosity hair but after doing everything and using everything without long term success I finally did the Porosity test and discovered I have Low Porosity! So I watched a few videos and came to yours and learned and Screenshot A LOT!!
you are amazing, after all these years of being natural & millions of videos ive never even heard of nor considered the pH of my products & hair. thank you for this 🙏🏿❤🥰

I hope you guys are all doing well and I look forward to making more videos! Please share some of your tips to help our low porosity brothers and sisters! ❤️❤️❤️
Great tips ! Many of them I've applied lately. I have fine and low porisity 3c-4a. Putting to much products is a no no (loc or lco).. Lesd is better for me. I think deep conditiining with heat us must for low porosity hair
You're the best I feel I now have an idea of one of my daughter's hair she is definitely low porosity and God knows how much coconut oil and baking soda we've used🙉🤣🙆
I’m just glad to finally see someone who’s hair looks like mine when moisturized. Every other 4c type ends up looking like 4a/b, and my hair doesn’t do that.
The science behind our hair. Amazing, thank you for this information. This will help tremendously with my hair journey. We forget that we actually have to study and plan our hair routines. So this is great.
Another great one Iyda. And yep I totally agree with you on gels being the best sealant. My hair is a lot thicker than yours so even when I used to use Shea butter on it, a couple days later my hair would feel stiff, oily and dry. 🤔 Whereas with Gel my hair can go an entire week and still feel soft and moisturised. My hair doesn’t even like leave-in conditioners. However warming some water with a smidgin of ACV (hair doesn’t like aloe juice), and glycerin, and then closing the cuticle back with the same mixture but a COLD version has been working wonders for me! If it wasn’t for the fact that your hair likes clays, leave-ins, and the LCO method (LOC all the way, 😍), I swear we’d be hair twins. Even the looser texture at the front.... I would never have thought to use another DC for that area. 😀 So keep em coming girlfriend. You’re doing a great job. And did I tell you that your hair looks gorgeous btw??? Your hard work and TLC is obviously paying off. 👍🏾
Ive been waiting for someone to break this porosity thing down BY INGREDIENT! Such helpful info, now I dont have to wait for my subscriptions to review products, just go by the label. As a curly in the north east I'm wondering if you have any of these kinds of tips for the cold dry weather?
JoshableJr thank you! I just make sure to seal my hair and use more moisturizing leave ins like the tgin leave in and protect my hair from the cold weather by covering my hair or wearing protective styles !
I've found hot oil treatments to be a life savvy during the cold dry winters in Chicago. I do them before I shampoo to keep from getting buildup on my fine hair. You can do diy oil treatments or purchase one. Done regularly, hot oil treatments can reduce frizz and help your hair retain moisture longer. I can also use heavier oils and butters on my ends during the winter without weighing my hair down. I also recommend getting a humidifier for your home. I start using mine in my bedroom as soon as I turn my heat on for the winter. The dry, indoor air can really dry out your skin and hair.
You took me to school. I thank you for this very informative video. You put time and love in your video. Thank you for being a perfectionist and sharing. Please let me know when you start selling your hair care line.
Thank you for this! I always have a lot of problems when I wear my washngo out. It swells up and puffs out, it even feels heavy. I usually have to put it in a bun or under a hat and a half wig.
Where have you been all of my you-tube, natural hair care journey life?? You are very thorough, to-the-point, well-researched and very informative. I appreciate your teaching delivery, both vocally and visually. Thank You very much for sharing your time, personal observations and expertise with us. You have a new subscriber♥🔔
You’ve been sooo helpful! I think I am low porosity but because I have extremely thin hair with a full density it was hard to diagnose! Everyone always said I had thick hair but I think they were looking at my hair as a whole and not my actual strands! My hair doesn’t mind coconut oil but when I deep condition the conditioner always seem to never really give me the feeling that others felt. I think my hair does it get wet when I spray water but not right away due to the fact that my hair is thinner. I do have to wait all night for a twist out and I refuse to try a perm rod set because I’m worried it will need 2 days to dry. I’m definitely going to try some of the products you mentioned here in this video as well as others and let you know how everything worked out and if I really have low porosity hair!! Thank you soo much for the information!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am low porosity, thin strands, and high density. I always thought I was protein sensitive but I have been using Mielle Organics Rosemary and mint deep conditioner and falling asleep in my heat cap and this product has biotin. I need more info on biotin cause my hair is so buttery soft and strong. Now my wash n goes last forever and I don't have to r er moisturized till the next wash day. I love it so much. I have used it a total of 5 times and my hair is thriving Oyin Hair Dew Leave in Curl Enhancing Smoothie Grape seed oil with peppermint and rosemary extract Lotta body Mousse But can you give info on BIOTIN. Is it a big protein?
Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin (within the vitamin B complex) that acts as a coenzyme to produce fatty acids and metabolize amino acids, which form proteins. So it's not a protein by itself, but it helps to build protein in the hair. However, this typically happens within the body, not outside of it. Biotin is relatively too large to penetrate the hair shaft, but it can strengthen the surface of the hair strands. Biotin formulas coat each strand and in doing so, they increase the diameter of each existing hair.
low porosity and coarse textured tight curls is a combination so tricky it makes me feel defeated. i mean you need all that hold and that much product to achieve definition but no you have to use less product and thinner consistency because Low porosity but then you lose definition because not enough amount and thickness of product ugggh
I find I get really good definition with a good twisting butter like Camille Rose Almond Jai. You don't have to use a lot. Probably layer it with diluted leave in conditioner spray for maximum moisture.
Anyone coming here who’s not sure. So far for me the amino acids is the one to go with. I’m in protein overload & using the hydrolyzed wheat protein was apparent when I tried to add it back in to my routine. Amino acids in a rinse out best way for me- when not overloaded :)
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I do use the majority of the products mentioned with care. Trying to find a balance is tricky with low porosity medium density hair. For example I wash & deep condition weekly. Monthly I do the bentonite clay mask and deep condition afterwards. Every 2months I color, seal & use a protein deep conditioner. I spritz warm water in my hair daily and seal. Anyhow, can't wait to check out more of your expertise, thanks again.
I need some shine and slip! I'd pretty much given up on my hair for the sake of simplicity (also being cheap and lazy). BUT it's time to start loving my hair again. It's so dull and frizzy 😑
Can you do a video on aloe vera and low porosity hair? I don't think my hair likes it in large quantities but it works so well for you that it makes me think there's a trick to using it. Also, really good video. Very informative and concise. Will try diluting conditioner and adding honey next time.
Hi Idya.....I have hard water. Hard water and low porisity hair are a disaster. Could you talk to us about types of water in different areas......I'm looking for shower filters that take calcium and heavy metals out. Thank you so much for all your research. Because of your informative videos I have figured out my hair does not like protein, that my hair is low porosity, almond oil is best, coconut makes my hair hard, aloe vera is an enemy to my hair. You have taught me how to pay attention to what my hair likes. Now about this hard water on my hair........🤔
Progess KnotPrefection awe thank you!! That’s a great idea for a video! I will def create one because your right it’s so important. I have an older video on clarifying and chelating your hair to remove hard water but I didn’t go in to detail with shoe filters etc. thanks girl ❤️
This is, by far, the most informative video on Low porosity hair. I have seen so many, so great work done. Was super helpful. It would be great if you could suggest if glycerin based products are good for fine 2b low porosity hair; and also if I should use thag many steps because I have really fine low porosity hair
@@IydaChristopher I think that's a great idea! I love how detailed all your tips are and I'd definitely read it if it was a book. Did you figure all this stuff out by* just random research or was there a method you followed to become more knowledgeable?
Good Luck Brenda I think it was a combination of research, Books, and experience and also taking hair cosmetic chemistry courses, having access to a chemist to ask questions and my love of study ❤️
Thanks so much for this I’ve been awaiting your next video. They are so informative. What do you think about Baobab oil for moisturizing low porosity hair?
Sherri Bryant thank you! I have never tried that oil, it’s very hard to find and kind of pricey so I just didn’t even bother to use it and just stuck with sweet almond oil!
Hi lyda I got question what s the different btw almond oil and sweet almond oil.my 2nd question can I use Heavy oil on low porosity hair to lock in moisture after leave in condtioner.
Thanks for the video, I learnt a lot cause I aslo have a low porority and my hair doesn't really like proteins. (Only low proteins like silk protein) My only tip is to stay away from Fenugrec oil & seeds Do you think we should not using castor oil ? I was wondering myself Btw, do u have Fulani or Falacha origins ? In fact Iam Fulani (French-Fulani as I used to say ;)) So sorry for my medium/bad English ;)... Be Blessed !
@@AssassinNasa16 Shampoos with sulfates are the most damaging because they strip the hair of it's natural oils. Using sulfate free & clarifying shampoos are better for the hair & won't strip our hair of it's natural oils.
I feel absolutely hopeless My hair is almost identical, the only difference is I have (had) 4x the volume My hair started shedding really bad about 4 months ago now it’s so thin and dry I’ve tried everything on TH-cam Went to a dermatologist nothing is working I honestly think the shedding is from dryness But I cannot find any product my hair likes My scalp can’t tolerate oils and lnc just sits on top of my hair🥺 do you have any suggestions?
EverythingsbetterinPink are you protein sensitive? Do your products have protein in it. Maybe you have protein overload making your hair feel dry making your hair break?
Are you moisturizing and sealing your hair properly? Are you cleansing your hair to remove product buildup regularly and clarifying to remove hard water? Are you using harsh cleansers that strip away all your moisture?

I was so happy when I was notified of your video. So excited. Missed you. Glad your back and feeling better. Love your videos dearly. ❤
JaVonna Williams thank you so much beautiful ❤️❤️
Your videos are so informative/helpful. Really appreciate what you do. Keep up the great work!
Finally!!! I found a video that gave specific facts about low porosity ingredients. This is exactly what I needed. Thanks for relieving my stress 🙏🙏.
Wow, best video yet I’ve seen on Low porosity hair
😊 You’re welcome Iyda. I really hope that they are helpful. Don’t forget to check the ph of your leave-in, and please let me know how you get on. 😘
So informative and helpful. I think this video will finally help me figure out my daughter's thick, coarse, low porosity hair. Thanks
Girl, can u please leave ur outline on the screen longer so we can read all that u wrote. U very informational and I want to read all u have.
Pause or screenshot.
Even though it have high porosity hair, I'm still watching your videos. They are really informative. Also, you are really pretty.
Awe thank you! :) Really appreciate it!
@@IydaChristopher you're welcome.💜
Thank you Lyda, very healthy information
Love the up do! So Pretty!
Wow, thank you so much for this. So informative and detailed. Very easy to follow along.
Very informative and well-spoken, thank you! I have low porosity, coarse, thick and dense wavy hair. I've yet to find another curly girl like me.😩
Good info. My hair is similar to yours. Your spot on.
Yes girl! Welcome back!
I have used it a total of 5 times and my hair is thriving
Oyin Hair Dew Leave in
Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Grape seed oil with peppermint and rosemary extract
Lotta body Mousse
But can you give info on BIOTIN.
Your videos are awesome. You have helped me so much with figuring out which products work for my low-porosity hair
low porosity and coarse textured tight curls is a combination so tricky it makes me feel defeated. i mean you need all that hold and that much product to achieve definition but no you have to use less product and thinner consistency because Low porosity but then you lose definition because not enough amount and thickness of product ugggh
Zainab Abdullah girl, you just explained perfectly my struggle!! It is extremely tricky!!!!!!!!
I find I get really good definition with a good twisting butter like Camille Rose Almond Jai. You don't have to use a lot. Probably layer it with diluted leave in conditioner spray for maximum moisture.
your hair is so pretty
L G thank you!
Excellent video!
Anyone coming here who’s not sure. So far for me the amino acids is the one to go with. I’m in protein overload & using the hydrolyzed wheat protein was apparent when I tried to add it back in to my routine.
Amino acids in a rinse out best way for me- when not overloaded :)
Really valuable information, thank you sooo much!
Greatest Woman In The World
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
Michele Jones sounds like you have a good regimen going on!!
Thanks for another interesting video . My hair loves diy flaxseed gel .
I’m learning so much from black woman on yt even though I have different hair type. Thank u girls ♥️♥️
Welcome back! I always learn something from your videos
Michelle Joseph thank you! Happy to be back as well ❤️
Thanks so much! These tips are super helpful

Absolutely love your channel! Love all the informative tips your provide! Keep it up gorgeous! 🤍✨🙏🏽
I absolutely love your videos. So informative! I'm never disappointed. Keep them coming.
Hi, the flaxseed gel or the Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract are like a protein on the hair? Thank you!
Sooo good Idya!!! I sooo glad I found your channel! I clicked that bell 🛎 too boo! New subbie!
Xoxo 💋

I’ve learned so much just from this video
So for winter where I live it’s cold plus it’s snowing so what products can I use because my hair craves humectants ingredients.
Perfectly explained! Thanks so much!❤
I need some shine and slip! I'd pretty much given up on my hair for the sake of simplicity (also being cheap and lazy). BUT it's time to start loving my hair again. It's so dull and frizzy 😑
How often is too often? I do love clay for my hair.
Sis, your eyebrows are gorgeous too!! Do you have a video on it?
This is, by far, the most informative video on Low porosity hair. I have seen so many, so great work done. Was super helpful. It would be great if you could suggest if glycerin based products are good for fine 2b low porosity hair; and also if I should use thag many steps because I have really fine low porosity hair
So educational ❤
Thanks sooooo much for this vid, it was super helpful!
Jem TS thank you!
You should consider making a blog! and posting these slides as blog posts
Good Luck Brenda I was actually thinking of creating an ebook. What do you think?
Vegetable glycerin is my favorite-but not everyday! Your hair looks sooo much like mine👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❣️🎉🎊💥💘💕
You've packed this video with so much helpful information, I'm going to have to watch it again! Thank you!
Very very good video, informative and to the point.🤗🧡💛
Is argan oil shampoo is better or murumuru butter shampoo for low porosity hair????
Please reply
Love the color of your lipstick
Hi iyda can I ask you something? Can we use honey+olive oil as a pre poo for low porosity hair? 😺

yep same question, in my grocery store I see almond oil and I'm not sure if I should buy it, is it the same thing?
thank you. great job.
Great Video💁🏽
Thanks for the video, I learnt a lot cause I aslo have a low porority and my hair doesn't really like proteins. (Only low proteins like silk protein)
My only tip is to stay away from Fenugrec oil & seeds
Do you think we should not using castor oil ? I was wondering myself
Btw, do u have Fulani or Falacha origins ? In fact Iam Fulani (French-Fulani as I used to say ;)) So sorry for my medium/bad English ;)...
Be Blessed !
Lipstick color and brand please?
Hi Iyda sorry to ask this but what's the difference or is there any difference between a deep conditioner and protein/hair treatment?
Yes, the deep conditioner is for moisturizing your hair and the protein treatment is for strengthening your hair.
@@IydaChristopher Thank you so much for the response that's why you are my fav😍
Likes and adds to favorites.👍
Hey Hey! Finally!☺
gurl yo hair poppin
Is a sulfate free shampoo the same as a clarifying shampoo?
I think the opposite but might be wrong. I think shampoos WITH sulfates are clarifying shampoos. Hope that helps xx
@@AssassinNasa16 Shampoos with sulfates are the most damaging because they strip the hair of it's natural oils. Using sulfate free & clarifying shampoos are better for the hair & won't strip our hair of it's natural oils.
I feel absolutely hopeless
My hair is almost identical, the only difference is I have (had) 4x the volume
My hair started shedding really bad about 4 months ago now it’s so thin and dry
I’ve tried everything on TH-cam
Went to a dermatologist nothing is working
I honestly think the shedding is from dryness
But I cannot find any product my hair likes
My scalp can’t tolerate oils and lnc just sits on top of my hair🥺 do you have any suggestions?
EverythingsbetterinPink are you protein sensitive? Do your products have protein in it. Maybe you have protein overload making your hair feel dry making your hair break?
Iyda Michael yes I’m protein sensitive none of my products have protein in them. That’s why I’m confused, idk what the issue is.
Are you moisturizing and sealing your hair properly? Are you cleansing your hair to remove product buildup regularly and clarifying to remove hard water? Are you using harsh cleansers that strip away all your moisture?
Iyda Michael I don’t think I’m moisturizing properly because my hate products maybe my sealing isn’t being done properly. Thanks for responding♥️
