Your surprise "pillar" Rose of Sharon is Purple Pillar. I have a row of 5 Purple Pillars between myself and our neighbor for privacy for them and us. They do indeed get VERY tall and thin which is great and just covered in blossoms and for months I can watch hummingbirds zooming around & feeding in them while I wash dishes. The Purple Pillars seem to particularly attract the hummers in my yard over the Chiffons. I have 2 pink chiffon and 1 lavender chiffon. It is mid-November and the Lavender Chiffon continues to put on blossoms in Northern CA (crazy)!
It is a beautiful Rose of Sharon. I have several of the blue Chiffon and the bees and hummingbirds seem to enjoy them. I have few pink chiffon which have struggled but are starting to take off. Thank for letting me know. I’ve noticed many of the Rose of Sharon being mistagged in the stores.
I’ll be honest some of my rose of Sharon have struggled. Mine were very small when planted. I see a difference between the 3 colors. The blue chiffon has some the best for me so far but I really like how the pink fills out. I hope this year, they fill out and grow larger! ❤️
I think it was early to mid July last year 2023 but everything this year has been about 2 weeks ahead of last year. So, hopefully by July 1st, this year.
@heathersmichigangarden Yes they are in full sun, over winter very well in Seattle, just no blooms. I've been feeding time release. Will try rose food fo next year, I guess. Thanks for the reply.

Beautiful Flowers. I planted the Blue Chiffon Rose Of Sharon this April 2024. I am excited to watch it grow in my front yard. ❤
The blue chiffon has done the best for me. I started mine very small. I’m hoping mine will start to grow faster this year.
I love Rose of Sharon. I have white, blue & pink chiffon. They are so pretty. They will be so pretty as a wedding backdrop.

Thank you for sharing this video. Just wondering when do your rose of Sharon usually bloom in Michigan?

Just an update…. I just had my first Blue Chiffon Bloom June 26th, 2024.
What are you feeding them? Mine look great every year but no blooms.
I feed them Rose fertilizer, like Rose tone or Rose 3 in 1. Are they in full sun?
