    Shift+R to Redo the previous action is a HUGE time saver, especially when doing something repetitive like merging vertices

    • @firstnamelastname061

      isn't it like Ctrl+Z for undo and Ctrl+Shft+Z for redo??

      Actually with redo he meant repeating too.

      This could have also made the duplicate+rotate of the kraken legs during the tips section easier. However; since shift + R only repeats the last action, I have saved "repeat history" to my favorites menu (Q). This gives a list of recent tools used similar to how Maya's repeat history works

    Hey great video as always!
    For the part at 4:40 you can use the shortcut "Shift+R" to repeat the last action. In this case merging vertices at the center.
    Do the normal process of merging and on the next batch hit shift+r and your are done.

    You can also select an individual vertex on a curve that you beveled, and hit ALT + S to scale down that area of the mesh. It gives a bit more control with tapering. Also, you can hit CTRL+T on a specific vertex to twist the mesh.

    By joining the vertices of the tentacles you created a tighter meeting point for them, which was what I thought you were going for when you didn't bridge the spaces. I thought it worked out nicely. The eyes made me think it might be Marty Feldman playing a kraken.
    I taught blocky programming to kids a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun. I don't remember which system they used now. It had a penguin as the mascot. Some of the kids got really into it and created some good things.

    Could you have done an array modifier when making the curves for the tentacles? Array'd them in a circle and then just move them? I'm not sure how it would work but I know I've done radial array modifiers when making fire hydrants and stuff

    • @nberrebn
      @nberrebn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easy enough. Add an array modifier to the curve. Set count to 8 and uncheck "relative offset". Add an empty with the same origin point as the curve. Set the empty to be the object offset in the curve's array modifier. Rotate the empty on the Z axis until the tentacles are evenly spaced. You can move the origin curve in edit mode (so the origin doesn't change) to adjust the radius.

  • @xpdatabase1197
    @xpdatabase1197 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Where you were merging the Tentacles you could have just bridged the faces between them, if you are using right click to select then you will have to press W to bring up a menu where you can bridge faces, if you are using left click to select the just click your right mouse button to bring up the same menu :) a disclaimer you must be in face select mode for the bridge faces option to appear. Also if you are going to bring this into your game, then i would advise you to retopoligize it, 1 million faces is a lot of polygons. Just retopo it and then just bake the details from this high res model on to the low res model, it will look basically the same but it will have a lot less polygons. You can use a software which does automatic retopology which can save you a lot of time. Instant meshes is good piece of software, its free and open source just like blender, here is a link to it github.com/wjakob/instant-meshes just head on to the precompiled binaries and download the one for your operating system. Get this mesh down to at least 10,000 polys, that should be good enough. Just noticed at the End of the video you did basically what i advised haha.

I have tried experimenting with all of the sculpt tool settings; radius, strength, hardness, falloff, subdivisions, etc. I must be missing 1 detail somewhere that will make it work right. From photography, cinematography, and "electronic media", and graphics composition classes from the 70s: When all of the subject matter is contained within frame the image becomes "static" in the viewer's mind. You are not alone - most people instinctively place photographed subject matter within an imagined frame that is about 80% of the outer edge, ... not always, but often enough to be called common practice. Carrying the subject matter beyond frame, the viewer subconsciously realizes the image is a *piece* of a much larger world, and with an organic form like this it implies life and movement that has carried it beyond the frame. In a Journalistic context, as in framing for an on screen commentator, it is not a good idea to clip foreheads. In cinematography this is sometimes referred to as an "intimate close up" because it puts the viewer at a range that is only comfortable if you are "intimately" acquainted with the subject. That works psychologically with a hero or heroin in a movie ... not so much with a video tutor or news castor. In the case of a "creature" shot it can enhance the "fear factor" - being a little more intimate than the viewer wishes to be. Clipping foreheads at medium distance (head to shoulders or mid chest) is just bad composition and mostly looks sloppy or careless on the photographer's part. This does not always apply with (frame) clipping the top of a person's hair. I think because psychologically most people really don't care what a person's hair looks like.

    you could probably speedup a bit by just doing a quadrant with 2 or 3 tentacles then copy it up four times. :D

    You could have put a cylinder in the middle and used the bool tool to merge it
