I thought when I met him a year after this interview, with a goatee, he looked like an evil version of a sesame street muppet like Oskar the Grouch lol. Funniest dude too.
This has to be one of the most awkward and best performances of all time. One of the heavies rock bands killin' it in what looks like someones living room, to a crowd of folks whom have no idea what they're seeing…there's an Amish dude playing bass…they had to whittle down Dale's kit so he didn't damage anyone's eardrums hahaha…classic Melvins. LOVE IT!!!!!!!
I hope someone reads my comment because those audience members doing their head bobbing thing reminded me of Will Ferrell & Chris Kattan in *A Night at the Roxbury*
That was their sting when they were playing 10-15 second intros and outros on a music show in my country in 1996 - it worked so damn well!! I've still got that set list
Hahaha what in the actual fuck is going on with the courtroom sketch artist and the fucking Melvins!?! This is gold, I miss the 90s. Makes no sense and that's the best part. My acid is kicking in... Hard 🤙🏻
I think this was right around the OJ trial, so courtroom sketch artists were a normal part of life I guess lol. I had to think about it because I was wondering wtf was going on too...that's my best guess, could totally be wrong :)
REVOLVE was one of the 5 best songs of the 1990s. Those 3 mid 90s Melvins albums (Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Stag) are still in the A list part of my record collection.
Only in the 90s. Love it. I remember staying up late in high school and watching this show just for the bands they had. They would never put a band like the Melvins on a music show like that nowadays.
That's cuz the mainstream didnt know wtf was going on at the time. anything that was weird or related in some way to other bands would sometimes get a time slot filled in on some show between duran duran and whoever the fuck else.
SO HAPPY someone saved and uploaded this!!! THANK YOU UPLOADER!! ...I just wonder what ever happened to that old man's sketch... Probably worth a TON of money right now if it still exists.
I love Mark's getup. It's like Buzz and Dale were out a bass player. They were also out in the countryside. All cows, Amish people, cowboys, farmers. Buzz sees this cowboy jamming out on his bass infront of some pigs. The pigs are digging the deep tones of this dude's bass. And at that point: Buzz and Dale knew that this dude would be their bass player just for a little. Then they'd get another one later. Of course. I'm high.
I love how a bunch of the big wigs are trying to pretend they're versed in the music and pretending to be into it while the other half are looking on completely flabbergasted and confused.
“Hey Big Bodie” my Son heard me cranking this tune at level 10. It’s on his playlist now. His name is Bodi, so he digs it too. We must teach the youth😂
Thanks for uploading this, I have been wanting to see even a tiny bit after a memory of it flooded back to me recently. I may have even seen this live, I used to watch this show very regularly as a teen. Great band to have on, miss these days. And, Jeff Probst?! I didn't remember that he was on this show, pretty cool.
This is awesome in all of it's worn-out VHS glory, Can you imagine if they did something like this on a show today? The soccer moms of the world would shit bricks sideways. The 90's were awesome because rock music really played a large part in the decade.
***** The thing that makes this and many other videos of 20 years ago so good, is the nostalgia behind it. It was a simpler time. The internet was still relatively new enough that people didn't allow their lives to be constantly consumed by it like we do today. Cell phones were still for the wealthier people. And people congregated in person, and not on a social networking site. The biggest problem I see over the past 10 years, is the technology that has literally taken over us. Technology has taken the physical contact out of the equation. The emotion too, if you will. People don't know how to communicate with each other, nor do they know how to understand one another...or even take a joke. The sense of humor has indeed eroded over the past 10 years. People take themselves and everything else far too seriously these days. Forgotten what it was like to have fun, and somehow have become scared of their own shadow. As for bands all sounding the same these days... It goes right back to technology. Everything is digital now, and with that, everything is easily manipulated. Photo, video, and most certainly audio. We can make anything sound and look like we want with digital technology. So, when one band is selling downloads like crazy, it's easy for record companies to make digital carbon copies of that band with another band using the same carbon copied producers. Hell, there are even guitar profiling amplifiers (Kemper profiling amp) that allow one to digitally copy a guitar tone. How long before we have vocal profiling equipment that people can use in the studio and even live? The individuality was lost the moment video and audio recording went full digital. Music has become far too polished and far too blah. I've gotten to the point to where I don't even listen to radio anymore. Tired of being inundated every day with the same 10 bands that all sound alike. Ironically... As I'm sitting here bitching about technology...it is the same technology that allows me to watch the old videos I loved many years ago. lol
***** I went through the digital phase with my guitar effects and what-not. Found that the more I added in terms of digital effects and processing, the more digital it sounded overall. The only part of my rig that is tonally digital now is digital delay. Otherwise, my rig actually consists more of tube rack preamps than anything else. I'm a tube preamp junky, because I get bored with the same tone and like a lot of versatility. The preamps I currently use are Marshall JMP-1, Mesa Triaxis, and Engl E570 running through a Fryette 2/50/2 power amp. My preamps, while they are analog preamps, they use digital interfaces for controlling and settings storage...and I control those and my few stompboxes with a digital MIDI controller. Basically... I like a raw analog tone with the convenience of digital for programming and controlling it all. When I record, which is rare these days, I do it on analog reel-to-reel media to get a natural tape compression. I then send that analog recording that into my digital workstation and then do my edits (instead of cutting and splicing tape like the old days), but I don't manipulate or overdub the original recording at all. It's a lot of work to do it this way as opposed to just plugging into my digital workstation and recording directly, but it keeps a sense of warmth that seems to get lost when going direct into a digital recorder or computer. Maybe it's just me...
Saw them in 93, opening for the Breeders and Nirvana, which was the In utero tour and sadly enough Nirvana's last one. 1993 Ogden Utah was were it was.
I saw them a few nights ago. Buzz’s hair is greyer and he’s put on a few pounds but they still sound the same. Super sharp. Lots of energy. Loud. Dale was amazing, and it was his birthday.
So glad I remembered to brush my hat and put on a clean shirt for this bizarre journey into TV land. I had completely forgot about this, and will do so again immediately after watching it.
get into it random people with a vague understanding of groove, and then draw a picture of the Melvins, oh my Radioactive Sun GOD! this is the best thing ever!
Saw the Melvins at Bumbershoot with my 14 year old daughter at Bumbershoot 2015. They were freaking awesome! And my daughter was completely amazed at them. If you haven't heard of the Melvins, they are legen - wait for it - dary!

this shows awesome....I've never seen it before but it's fucking great... 1995 takes me back to my childhood... Melvins are the fucking kings of the silverscreen
Maybe the host saying Stoner Witch was a normal style album inspired them to do Honky next? Also the whole bit about the rider, I had a friend who was backstage at one of their shows in the `00s at the Knitting Factory, they did have an extensive vegetarian (maybe vegan?) rider iirc haha. Was so lucky to see and interview them a year after this in 1996, absolute legends.
Haha, they destroyed Probst in the interview portion. Melvins were all about being straight forward and not giving a squirt of piss what anyone thought!
Dale Crover is a fucking god on drums.

It's OK. At least it happened, better late than never!🥲
One of the most underrated bands of all time
Absolutely true.
Bullshit... I rate them highly.
Hardly underrated
@@kellygordon103 Unfortunately, no one gives a crap what you rate them....but you are correct!
The most important underestimated band.
Proof that the 90s were the most amazing decade ever

I think I've just witnessed a bunch of people headbanging for the first time.
The fact they played Goose Freight Train on national TV shows how much they cared about catering to the audience.
Buzz has a killer voice!! His vocals takes his riffs to another level. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Jesus Christ, Revolve rocks so ridiculously hard.

That era that everyone liked heavy music... Miss you, 90s
I love stumbling across this. Just saw them (again) this week as part of their...40th anniversary tour! Amazing! Such great musicians.
Probably the best episode this show ever had. No wonder I'd never heard of it.
Buzz always has such a great attitude when he plays. You can tell he does not care where he is or what anyone thinks. He just kills with the music.
He’s an annoying douche a lot of the time.
i know... i love nirvana, but that whole scene wasn't all about kurt cobain, these guys inspired him to even get into a band!
Nirvana sucks
