Thanks for watching, iv been personally looking for a video showing how to build a custom race wheel, and I couldn't find anything of value so I made this video thinking others might be looking for the same. Thanks for watching and commenting on this video.
Actually the dude from the Far East ECO-LAP Studio th-cam.com/video/UDsZsFJ1ai8/w-d-xo.html exposed the secret back in 2019. He got a lot of hate. That is how I learned to make my own wheel. I like your video too as it is updated with more details and very informative. Subscribed

Yessir the wheel if going In the jeep. Everything that is built so far is for the jeep. Thanks for the motivating words I'll be back uploading soon. More jeep build
Thanks for making this video! If this was your first time doing a project like this, in retrospect, is there anything that you would do differently the next time? I know that sometimes we often think afterwards, “man, I should’ve done this, or changed that!”. You did a great job and I really enjoyed the process!
@Greg Whaley yeah was the first time building a custom wheel, but me being a artist first and a car guy after, iv taken on plenty of projects that was basically the same concept. There are plenty of ways to approach this type of project. Would I change how iv done it 🤔 NOPE! Would I try another method in the future 🤔 MAYBE! I myself was looking for some type of video on youtube about making wheels and some was just basic wooden wheel or with a process so technical makes you think twice about doing it. So this was bare bone understanding of how to accomplish something like this. Thanks for the comment 👍🏽 I appreciate it!! 💯
@Maikyjoe Bohmer lol 😆 😂 I know I wanted to find some nice ones but did find non in time to release the video.. thanks for the comment tho I appreciate it.
@Eric Lewis yeah I seen that video also, what I did with the packing tape, which I forgot to show that in the vid is use the tape backwards sticky side out.. that was just to help the cloth bond better to the wheel.
@@TheInkhousecustoms may be better to use ceran wrap or like shipping wrap, glad to hear you did with adhesive side facing out haha was concerned when i noticed that
I @rawrtravisrawr I always tell ppl not to take my way as "the right way" I'm a DIY'er I try things that look right in my head, and if it works I just stick with that way. Thanks for the comment! 👍🏽
@@TheInkhousecustoms I was so in doubt at the beginning. I am completely ignorant on how this whole thing is done so when I see you adding bondo to make the shape, applying raggedy carbon fiber that looks like shredded fiber from a bums jeans I was very doubtful. But I stuck through the video and you definitely knew what you were doing and I was astounded.
Amazing video and work! I was wondering if you had any issues over the years of delamination of any carbon laminated parts like this? Do you post cure at certain temps? Ive been reading a lot of carbon skining and people saying with out post curing it will delaminate from the heat on a hot summer day. Would love to try this but dont want to have to re do it if it goes bad i appreciate any and all tips!
It held up pretty well, only part I have problems was the horn area where the vinyl peeled up. Other than that, there shouldn't be no reasons for any delamination. The laminate goes all the way around. The only thing would be if you don't prep the surface before starting your wheel. That wheel should be decreased and scuffed before any work is started.
love it looks good, congrats good job. Serious question is this really lighter if that is carbon fiber is it lighter or does it still manage to weigh near the same, or the exact same.
It is not lighter it actually would be a little heavier then original. It's just a appearance application. To get a real carbon wheel it would need to be created in a mold.
Damn bro that came out hella good. When I first started watching this I was thinking this probably isn't gonna turn out that well, I didn't like the honeycomb carbon pattern. But the finished product surprised me, shit looks dope!
Awesome job quick questions though. When you started the leather wrap, what did you fill that gap between the carbon fiber and the leather with? Also need you finish stitching did you remove that fill to tuck the leather in?
@ITSBIGDEE I filled the gap with body filler, I filled the gap cause it was a bit to big. I cut Back the carbon to flatten it, which left a big gap so filled it enough to fit the vinyl.
@ITSBIGDEE good question, I always let my epoxy set overnight about 18 to 24 hrs. But yhe pc11 sets in about a hr or two should be safe to shape then let it set before any other work.
@@TheInkhousecustoms appreciate that info. I’m starting on my own steering wheel. I wish there was a way to brighting up the red carbon fiber. I tried it on a accent piece and it just was just to dark. May have to take a stab at hydro dipping.
Thank you for the tutorial. I did not have any problems in the first part, but in the second part, after cutting the steering wheel in certain corners, the putty cracked around the corners. I am trying to fix it, but due to the structure of the rubber, the putty cracks when it stretches. What can I do about this?
I wonder why the putty cracked.. on my wheel I have metal still at the bottom. I just extended the bottom a bit with putty. I have no problems like this. I think if you've done this work on a wheel that has weak rubber it will fail. I suggest to do this on a newer wheel, if this could be one of the problems.
@@TheInkhousecustoms Hello again, I filled the edges with putty again and cut again and my problem was solved. Now I have a great mold. I'm going to cover the middle parts with leather. I'm thinking of painting the top and bottom gray. If I cover it with carbon, can I paint it? Or do I have to find another solution for top and bottom?
What is that white you put on after creating the gripbumps and such? Is it something to create a surface which is more easy to sand down? Very nice video!👊🏻
@caio Henrietta I applied 1 coat of epoxy set dry to tacky not stringing, the lay cloth. After cloth set dry I applied 2 coats, sand and reapplied an additional 2 coats. Make sure to let epoxy to set dry to tack each coat.. UV epoxy not necessary . last thing to do is flat surface and spray automotive clear coat, will solve the uv issues.
@@TheInkhousecustoms thank you so much ! By the way..: I was think put a red mark on top in the middle of steering wheel .. do you know how can I do this? Using epoxy with pigment ?
@Amin Khan I would have loved to make that video, but that RPM gauge is quite expensive around $300+. Maybe in the future if I can get my hands on one I'll make an upgrade or make one for a future project.
@@TheInkhousecustoms yeah i saw the same, but im not sure how to install it , do i need to make a hole insite the steering wheel, or can it screw ontop of the wheel?
Another question but what did you sand up to for the spray clear coat and did you use a 1k clear or 2k currently working on another wheel but not sure how far I gotta sand it to grit wise for spray clear coat?
So awesome! I plan on tackling this project, the video was fast so I have a question, how did you make the division between the leather and carbon fiber?
@SBdunks I used a dremel with a cut-off wheel. One word of advice run the Carbon a little passed your mark where you'll cut, so the carbon will transition better with the leather.

This is amazing brotha, just curious what did you use in the beginning of the video before you put the carbon on? You brushed on what I assume is epoxy resin and hardner and let it get sticky before you put the fabric on? How long did you wait for it to get sticky?
The epoxy will never get hard without the hardener.. you must mix both resin and hardener, most hobbie epoxy's are mixed 1:1. Make sure to mix with the ratio your epoxy is set to. The epoxy I used is for lamination so it mixed 1:1.
