That is called PEINIRLI and it is not pizza exactly...The guide names it as such, but she makes the pizza comparisson so that foreigners can compare it with something similar or familiar to them... Lets not forget pizza was invented in the Greek colny of Neapolis in what is now called Naples...
Great tour! Not VERY representative of our cuisine but I didn't expect much more from 5 dishes. I wish you could be around more and taste really authentic Greek food and not just street food. Don't get me wrong, we have some great street food too, but I wish you could taste real dishes a family enjoys in everyday life. I wish you the best for your future travels!
The same streets, the same food venues the same food choices. This is tired and lame. Greece has so much more to offer yet you just can't see it and take the tired touristy trail.
You can't call Greek food ottoman, the ottoman turks actually borrowed a lot of foods from Greece and from Persia into their cuisines once they conquered a lot of those lands and they were taught how to cook since the Turks were nomads...

All you ate seems Ottoman heritage. So, as a Turk I will not get hungry in Athens.
