Honestly I wish a Kansas or K-State matchup could fit in OU's list. Also, Oklahoma State-Texas Tech is also a bit of a rivalry referred to as the Dust Bowl Duel, so I'd consider finding a way to fit that matchup in.
I randomly found this channel probably about 8 months ago, and I have never regretted it since. I really like watching a random guy in his bedroom talking about far-out or far-fetched concepts about college football. This is what TH-cam should be, not some faceless voice that tells you the realistic prospects of the original PAC-12 coming back together. I wanna see and hear ridiculous takes even if I don't agree with them. It stokes the imagination and it's fun to talk about major what-if scenarios.
Hawaii thought about becoming independent, but chose to join a conference. While other schools would fly to Hawaii in September, by the time their conference schedules kicked in none of the other schools desired to fly to Hawaii. Thus Hawaii required being in a conference...
I’ve liked this idea for a while, glad to see a video about it! I wouldn’t mind seeing some sort of standard for scheduling the six non-annual games. Such as 1 top 10 opponent from last year, 1 top 25, etc. we could see so many more unusual matchups and provide fun trips for fans.
This is actually what Chip Kelly proposes for college football realignment! As a UCLA fan, I must begrudgingly admit that it is a really solid idea that I think I favor to the current system. Imagine Boise state setting up a schedule that includes Georgia, Oregon, and Ohio State after decades of being seen as the "best of the rest" or on the other hand a school like Nebraska setting up a schedule with a bunch of Mac schools in order to regain some confidence after being an embarrassment for two decades. In my opinion, the bowl system we have currently is exciting because there are matchups you just don't see every day. I mean, who really cares what who the winner of the Idaho Potatoes bowl is unless your team is in it, these games are fun because the unique matchups. This new opens up so many doors and I can imagine the excitement of each school announcing their schedule. I also belive it would be better for FCS schools looking to make the jump as their value isn't tied to a confrence's bottom line. I could see a school like North Dakota slowly playing more and more FBS schools untilll they are seen as a major player in college football. However, I think it would make recruitment tied to coaches word of mouth a lot more than it already is. It would be brutal to be promised games against the top dogs of the sport only to get a schedule that has pushover schools on it. Not to mention schools would almost entirely abandon regionality which would be miserable for the athlete. Additionally, the lines between conferences would be blurred and who is to say a team wouldn't dip into naia football's ranks to get an easy demolition game at home. If I have learned anything from confences it's that schools like Alabama would much rather have a month where they play Samford, Old Dominion, LSU, and UL Monroe as compared to a month where they play Florida, Kentucky, LSU, and Georiga.
Empire cup (all 3 NY teams), Keystone cup (all 3 PA teams) SoCal Showdown (USC, UCLA, SDSU), Quadrangle of hate (Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, ISU), and Southwest showdown (Texas, TTU, TCU, Baylor) would be good ones too
One classic I would love to see is the Red X Classic. Just an idea, but bring together the mid-major Alabama teams (Jac State, South Alabama, Troy, UAB) and have them all play each other for whos the best team in the state besides Alabama and Auburn
Notre Dame should be forced into a conference or be denied any potential for CFB consideration. They duck any competitive game (guess Northern Illinois will still find them). It’s stupid that they can pound on scrubs then pretend like they deserve a top #5 spot like nothing.
Oregon having Arizona as rivalry no. 5 is spot on. I can't remember the amount of times they ruined our season by upset or injuring a key player. Also Boise State as our No. 4 is a great selection. Always a close game between us.
Every AD in the FBS meets every 2 years and in 2 days they hash out schedules. It HAS to be a Home Away series to limit Alabama playing Alabama A&M. They would support the other school by going there. That way, ADs know the strength of their teams and who to schedule. Then after 2 years, they meet, discuss dates and hash out schedules.
High school football has gone without conferences in Iowa for a number of years and it's much better. Top 16 at each level in RPI make the playoffs. So this year a 5-4 team with a hard schedule made it and a 7-2 team with an easy schedule did not. I like it.
I looked this up because I thought it sounded really interesting. I really like that format but from what I can tell it doesn’t weight opponents across different divisions right? Just a binary win vs loss record? So it treats a win versus a 3A team that’s 5-4 as better than a win versus a 5A that’s 4-5 (I’m from Kansas so this is how they name our divisions, idk how it’s referred to in Iowa)? This is typically a big problem in Kansas because not only is there ZERO strength of schedule component but it’s very common for teams to play opponents from different division levels whether that’s up or down a level. Kansas now adjusts for this by letting basically every team make the playoffs which to me is pretty lame.
@ right but it’s tricky. The city schools compete at the highest level (5A) but are only good enough to beat each other. So there’s a lot of 4As that are technically better. Ottumwa went 7-2 but played 2 or 3 DMPS schools and that kept them out.
@ hmm that’s interesting. I almost feel like they need a Maxpreps style formula to weight team strength. I think people might hate it though bc it’d be harder to understand than opponent SOS and opponents’ opponents SOS.
I also would argue another great opportunity for a multiple team rivalry would be what I call the Heartland Classic between Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Missouri!
Interesting, but I do have concerns. The one good thing about conferences (especially now) is that they allow "lower tier" teams to make the playoffs. The concerns I have with everyone being independent is that one, uneven schedules and "lesser schools" being screwed out of games (look up 2004 Florida A&M), and two bigger schools still being given preferential treatment to an even higher extreme. If anything, it will exacerbate the issue of the "Haves and the Have Nots", and the Blue Chip programs being given more favorable treatment, just like they did back in the pre-BCS and even the BCS Era days. Honestly, I think the issue we are seeing now with the Big Conferences will sort itself out in due time. The 12 Team playoff is just large enough to allow smaller schools to sneak in, like possibly Boise State and Army, but small enough that it will encourage smaller conferences to reform (remember, the top 4 is just the top 4 conference winners, not the Power 4 Conference Winners). What needs to be secured is the playoff format, and not allowing conferences to automatically have multiple teams in (like what the B1G and SEC are suggesting).
Hi, Tennessee fan here, great video btw 🙌 I think Florida would be a better fit on the spreadsheet than Auburn but thats just my opinion. keep up the great work!
I stand by the idea that if CFB took the English premiership appraoch at least for the 50 or so best schools it'd actually help with alot of problems. Let the NCAA regulate it, all lower schools still do normall bowls and championships but a promotion and relegation league would allow for competition and for there to be a more objective way of proving who is the best. You put best on best and provide incentive to teams who arent having an amazing season with the threat of relegation. What makes it work in soccer would make it work in college sports too since parity isnt the aim
Nah the promotion relegation system sucks, you end up with a couple of dynasty’s that will win 90% of the championships over a 20 year span. Look at what’s happening in the Spanish league
I saw LSU as rivals for other teams, bit I never saw LSU as its own team? Unless Louisiana was supposed to be LSU, but I don't think so based on the rivals?
Have 16 regions. Top 2 in each region make playoffs. Region champs get home game against 2nd place from other regions team. Simple and decided on the field where it should be.
What if everyone just joins the SEC. Having one big conference would basically be the same as having none, except there would be people in charge, but what if they decided to just let people make their own schedule because they're not sick in the head and they don't want to have to do it themselves for every team in college football?
abolish th playoff in its current form. play the season as we did 120 years, go with the polls. at the end of the season the only teams playing are those who remain undefeated until the last one standing.
USC's rivalry table makes sense until you get past the California teams. I can kind of understand Washington. But if anything, our next biggest rival after them is Oregon. I don't think we've ever cared about Arizona. Maybe Arizona State. We probably have a bigger rivalry with Wisconsin than Arizona.
should bring back divisions in the conferences cause if they didn't have divisions in the last 3 seasons it would just be Ohio State vs Michigan, and that would just ruin the importance of the rivalry
Yellow Hammer Classic: UAB, South Alabama, Troy & Jacksonville St Peach State Classic: Georgia Southern, Georgia State & Kennesaw State Bluegrass Classic: Louiville, Kentucky & Western Kentucky New England Classic: U Conn, U Mass & Boston College Empire Classic: Army, Syracuse & Buffalo Keystone Classic: Pitt, Penn St & Temple
