  • Particles are everywhere, they add detail and life to almost any animation or visual effect.
But too often I see particles that are generated using all the default settings and looking nothing like what they are supposed to digitally represent.
In today's video I teach you some techniques to get your particles looking betting in any program.
    Intro- 00:00
    Copy Real Life- 01:56
Rule 1 Do not use opacity- 03:17
Rule 2 Do not use preset shapes- 04:40
Rule 3 Do not run it all in one sim- 07:00
    Bonus color over life- 09:56

Really solid tips. I love how this is program agnostic advice. I use Trapcode Particular, X-Particles, Notch, and Unreal Engine Niagara to make particles and this is about to level me up in all of them.

These tips should be the base for any VFX artist. I am glad I am only a beginner in this field and came across your video.

Great content ! I realized I can make a procedural particle sprite generator on AE thanks to this video! Instead of drawing each frame, you can use a stack of effects to create a random shape each frame, and then use that comp as a sprite in Particular, perfect for dust or dirt
