If the courier was shot a lot of things would/wouldn't happen. But looking at the game as a game, the legion wins most battles in-game mostly because they have an insane health pool (30-over 100 I believe) compared to the NCR NPCs who have usually all 30 HP. From a realistic standpoint though, if so many legionnaires threw themselves at NCR with guns like they do in game they'd all just get mowed down. Be kind of like Gallipoli but even more stupid lol Even if they do use guns more, Caesar is the only thing keeping the Legion together by the point the game takes place. If he dies, & Lanius takes over, it's said that the most likely thing to happen (I think in Legion ending slides if Caesar is dead) is that Lanius runs them poorly since he's more of a military general, & it falls apart due to infighting & the like (which already shows a bit while Caesar is alive, so I can imagine it's much worse when he's dead).

Vetran Rangers are what was the Desert Rangers formerly. It is a bit confusing, I know, I'll explain it in a simple manner. The Desert Rangers used to operate in Arizona and Nevada, they are a bunch of survivolists who knows how to survive the desert, post war, they turned into an armed version of the Followers of the Apocalyspe specializing in helping small communities against raiders and teaching their skills to anyone who wants to join. Their favorite gear was the pre war riot gear. Some time after the Legion got established, they got kicked out by the Legion forces, they chased them down all the way to Nevada and the group dwendling numbers and power forced them to join the NCR. When they joined, they got an official disignation of "Vetran Rangers" and they are a complitley different entity to the NCR Rangers. The gun they get is after their service with the NCR, as for why some of them have the gun and other don't, some Desert Rangers left Arizona long before the treaty. We even had a Desert Ranger companion in Fallout 1, I think his name was Taico and he wore a pre war riot gear armor.
Many of the troops equipped with the Sequoia revolver were also vets of slaver wars in southern California and attempted to get it banned across the whole country northern California still has it though and on the barrels of the sequoias are the words "For honorable service" on the right "Against all tyrants" on the left
Kinda ironic that Caesar's Legion fights more like Gauls and Germanic tribes while the NCR acts more like the Roman Empire with establishing forts and outposts
I think they both represent Rome. The NCR in represents the old Roman republic days and Roman politics and the such while the legion represents the extremely militaristic side of Rome especially early Rome where everything was about military merit.
I think one thing I took noticed which was maybe left out of the video is how the Legion employs a form a diplomacy within the region such as Tribals to eliminate a rival one or to coherse them into join them by proving the worth of said tribe. Such as seen in Honest Hearts and the Great Khans. The Khans would've had everything stripped of their identity, or be killed for the failure at the battle. It was also mentioned in the Video about the Stirp and the Fiends both being used but I think that was a minor brush to the side that fact that the Legion has employed in some forms of dimplomacy to gain an advantage. I think with Van Graffs the Legion was doing arms dealing at some point. But awesome video none the less! Listened to it while driving to my hair cut.
I gotta disagree with the idea that both sides have the bulk of their millitary in the Mojave. Lanius isnt concerned about the stability of the legion, just "the east". The east being the area he had recently conquered. He's already near the dam by the time you talk to him about it. Meaning he'd still have at least a decently sized garrison to keep it stable since it was only conquered recently. Moreover in he end credits of the game you see the legion establishing garrisons at pretty nuch every area they take. The caravan guy mentions the roads always being safe, which would require many men to do given the nature of fallout, and the fact that they take slaves and recently conquered the east in what was apparently a major campaign means that theres a whole major area thats undergoing recruitment (lets just call it that lol) even as Lanius is talking to you. So thats at least 86 garrisons from Caesar, however many more from Lanius and Gragams campaigns, however many it takes to keep the roads safe (and again... it's fallout, that will NOT be a small number), plus however many are controlled by other centurions and such on any other campaigns. For the NCR the troops constantly complain about not receiving enough men despite conscription. As you said they had the rangers and elite troops protecting the brahman barons. The soldiers have no isea just how far the legion has really pushed in, General Oliver doesn't seem to take the threat of the legion as seriously as he should, and as you've said NCR troops are primarily out on patrol. Id say probably 10K with the NCR like you said since they based their millitary on the pre war U.S But for the Legion id say at LEAST 15K. Caesar most definitely wouldn't let some legate have a larger force than himself. And you also forget that the fiends, khans, white legs, and omertas all support Caesar. Which is likely between a few hundred to at most a thousand more (all depends on what their nunbers are supposed to be lore wise).
I agree with you for the most part. I believe that the Legion is represented to have more troops in the campaign than I said in the video. I just can’t confirm it unless I make the claim “well Caesar has hella tents at the fort”. I think that Caesar probably has four legions under his command in the Mojave since that would be a clear historical parallel to caesars campaigns im Gaul, which seemed to be what the writers were going for, for the most part. And the numbers for the factions at the end number in the thousands per faction.

After installing Titans of the New West I've been completely Brotherhood pilled and convinced that they wipe both factions off the face of the Earth with enough suits.
Liked the video a lot! Only thing that was a bit to make-believe was the estimated numbers portion. Just because a colonel/legate would have so and so many troops doesn't mean much for the NCR and Legion. A Decanus would have had 8 (+servants) under his command, but a CL-Decanus has 4. It just shows that we can't trust old regimental standards for these armies anymore, even though they were inspired by it. What i loved the most about the video was how you made clear that both factions are extremely invested in this conflict. Lanius literally comes directly from another conflict and the NCR conscripts like crazy to get meat for the meat grinder
as much as i like both of them for their aesthetics i dont think either is a good choice for the mojave in their current form , the ncr is expanding to its own detriment and a host of other issues while the legion is extremely nebulous and i cant quite put a finger on them outside of the obvious nonsense like slavery etc etc but i suspect that is due to the fact that a lot of their content is missing , also 19:22 is more copium from NCReddit
bru I'm the majority of the way through the video and I'm super conflicted now on which side I should take in the war I've played Vagas but never got that far yet, so this is a real head scratcher for me now thanks to these videos on the legion vs ncr
Given how wildly different the Mojave will be depending on what path you played, there's no way there could be a canon ending that wouldn't piss off a huge chunk of the fan base.
Ooh. I just had a cool idea pop into my head. Make a game series that has multiple endings. And when you come out with sequals, ask the player what ending they chose in the previous game. The sequal has factions that survived in the sequel. And then NEVER SAY WHATS CANON EVER!! Canon is exclusive to the players' individual choices. 😁👍
Maybe for a modern professional military. The NCRA can’t really be called that. They’re basically just people with assault rifles who’re taught how not to shoot each other on accident
Im not sure that Caesars Legions in Gaul used these tactics as often. Caesar’s strength was in large scale battle capability, alliances, espionage, and scorched earth tactics. He probably didn’t need to resort to these tactics the way Caesars Legion in the game does.
The game has to pull so much to even make the fight competitive. The NCR clears. What happens everytime a random NCR and Legion patrol come across each other? The NCR wipes the floor with them, usually taking no losses or losing 1 guy. The NCR is larger, more advanced, their rank and file troops are better equipped and their high end troops are both better equipped and better trained. The Legion allows no low level decision making, like when Vulpes is threatened with death for making a smart tactical decision. The NCR promotes those that make good tactical decisions. You can say "Vulpes did get promoted" yeah but what about every time Caesar isnt there to bail that smart Legionnaire out and their Centurion kills them? The NCR has the advantage in tactics, equipment, numbers, and firepower. The NCR can conscript citizens, but i dont notice the discussion of the main flaw of the Legion, they have to start a whole new war just to replace their troop numbers. Replacing losses requires an activity that results in more losses, so if one war goes badly they cant replace the manpower. They lose big battles, and they'll lose the war of attrition against the NCR. Ones a developed Society with a functioning government, military, and social structure. The other is the fantasy of a sociopath, a horde of people drawn into one man's cult of personality, one man literally dying of brain cancer during the game and it impedes his decision making! NCR wins easy
Good points. A lot of gamers tend to forget that the NCR is operating at the complete ass end of their supply lines. They haven’t set up rail lines yet. Even with a Legion victory at Hoover Dam, they can’t push into the NCR. All their troops travel by foot, nothing else. Probably at best they can cover 30 miles in a day. With a network of trains at their disposal, NCR could move thousands of troops hundreds of miles within a day or two. The Legion can absorb light casualties, but they can’t replace losses on the scale of grand battles like Hoover Dam. They lost, presumably, hundreds to a few thousand men, and it took them almost fiver years to replace their losses. And that was largely from conquering several new tribes. And it’s true that Casaer is the one thing holding it all together. Whether through the brain tumor or natural age, once he goes, the Legion will eventually fall apart, from (according to House) a year at the earliest to (according to Marcus) a few generations/ 20-30 years. Point is, the NCR can survive the loss of a great leader, the Legion can not.
This is a good video, but I have to give the NCR the win here due to several factors. First weapons, you may critizize the Republic for not adapting to the legion, but the same could be same for the legions refusual to use "modern" firearms. Second is leadership, if you kill the president of the NCR, he'll be replaced with the vice president or another member within the government. If ceaser dies or is killed, no one knows whos in charge, meaning infighting will happen and will turn into civil war. Lastly is the citizens. Every citizen of the NCR uses guns and really doesn't like the idea of being enslaved. So they would bring asymetric warefare against the legion when they invade california, thus making the war a nightmare to fight in.
^ this, the Legion can not win in the long term due to Ceaser's illness. he will die and the entirety of the legion will devour itself, and Ceaser doesn't have long, he WILL die before the cease fire is over and the NCR will attack while the legion is disorganized.
Yeah but how well do you think NCR soldiers are supplied? How much ammo does the average soldier carry in the post apocalypse. Even in modern battlefields or like that of WW1-WW2 it’s common to run out of ammo. I would say the Legion is much more adapt to fighting in the wastelands using primitive weapons and being proficient warriors.
On the Legion's views on technology, it should be clear that they don't hate it, but rather they use a _"If you're nothing without it, then you shouldn't have it."_ reasoning on the restrictions. Although we don't get to see it, I'm sure the higher ranking Legionaries do use energy weapons and maybe even old world medicine in life-or-death situations. They just have to prove that they could survive without them first.
Love how they didn't stop at gund vs old football gear, but they got deeper and deeper in how both factions managed the war effort. They have guns? Use guerrilla tactics, terrorism, espionage, hit and run, funding raiders and opposition parties. They have a huge army? Use the small rangers squad, use superior logistics, prepare deeper defense line to wither their numbers, deploy traps. Ultimately we have the ultimate military machine, with no capacity of building its own social and cultural structure outside of Caesar (conquering New Vegas is for this exact motive, all that Hegelian dialectics thing), and on the other side the ultimate emulators of the liberal capitalistic old world, with all the technological advantages and political disadvantages; there are troopers who actually believe in their liberties, but deserting is not unheard of. The best of the best are not just the physical best, but, befitting NCR's political standing, the Rangers are hard-working, smart and inventive, highly dedicated to the Republic's ideals
This is me being silly and is only somewhat related, but maybe something about the radiation (and mild FEV exposure for those who lived close to Mariposa when it exploded) has altered the human body to the point where taking a couple of bullets without instantly dying is feasible for the average wastelander, and that's why melee weapons became prevalent again post-war? I don't necessarily believe it, but that line of thinking could justify things like tribals, Caesar's Legion, etc being a threat to more industrialized and better equipped factions.
The NCR lacks certain modern equipment that even the armies of ww1 have, like if the NCR can set up a factory to make water cooled machine guns and can make the ammo on mass a Legion wouldn’t even last a hour against a simply encampment. The NCR has the capability to become a truly industrialized force even grabbing prewar military knowledge could help substantial California has the luck of having military and old war museums that could be looted for more useful knowledge and technical manuals on war. It requires though a competent government and military structure that can restructure it self around countering mass human wave attacks.
Tho house is correct about the fate of the legion if they win, Their entire society is the Legion and revolves around the legion, eventually with nobody to fight they will end up fighting each other or they would end up “modernizing” and fall like how Rome did or end up like the NCR
I’m surprised with how much they are going for a pure Roman military, they don’t use bulletproof shields at the very least. If they have numbers and have a heavy melee army against ranged enemies it only makes sense. It makes them look more barbaric to just have them rush enemies with a fire axe or machete as a mob, rather than a cohort
It's a good video but still they aren't winning the ncr is modern army with body armor automatic rifles it doesn't matter how elite your dudes with football pads and machetes are they can't stop bullets
I mean... With your logic, the NCR should have kicked the Legion out of the Mojave years ago. NCR troops can't seem to eliminate enough Legion forces per battle to actually make their ARs properly effective. The best example of the effectiveness of the Legion's forces being that Ranger station they took down without so much as a casualty. Mind you, casualties include the injured.
I dunno man in real life the might of the US was defeated by rice, then goat farmers because of incompetent politicians and leadership of which the NCR is renowned for.
I think we need to remember how neglected the legion was due to the time limit giving and limited resources I believe that they are made to be 50/50 to leave the most roleplayabilty
Why is it pronounced Kai-soar? If you’re trying to pronounce it in ancient Latin it would be Kai-Sar but it would most definitely be pronounced as the English See-Zar in fallout universe.
If we had lore accurate power armour it's the Brotherhood all the way. Power armour shrugs off all small arms fire so 99% of the firepower available to both these major factions. The only thing holding back the Brotherhood is their, relatively, small numbers. They probably only have 10% of the manpower of the NCR and Legion which means they can't control the vast territories the other factions do.

"Women filling in various support roles that keep them out of the fighting, including religious figures, such as priestesses" - first time I've heard about it, where's the evidence of women being anything more than slave breeders in the Legion?
After listening to the philosophies of both factions, it's clear they were written by prog libs. I can see why some call this game the proto woke game.
I think its a bit inaccurate to attribute the sexism of the legion to utilitarianism. If it was a matter of meritocracy meets utility the slave status would be put upon those who couldn't meet their standards in the military regardless of sex. A utilitarian doesn't ignore good potential soldiers on the basis of ideology. The procreation argument doesn't really work since the legion primarily recruits through conquest, recruiting from internal population growth requires a much different and more sustainable societal model than they operate under.
time plays on the NCR's side, Caesar isn't young and everyone agrees when he dies so does the legion. All the NCR has to do is to buy time and given their population, acceptance og women, ghouls and super mutants into the army as well as their arms industry there's no reason to beleive they can'r just hold out until caesar dies aand the legion tears itself apart.

@@arcticeagle342 using hp or anything like that is pointless to the discussion of who will win , look at the strategic situation legion has the omertas and various other gangs on their ˝payroll˝ to bother the ncr forcing them to futher thin out their lines to deal with the issue , they burn down nipton which is deep behind the ncr lines , then there is the alt+f4 in camp searchlight , general oliver also placed a metric ton of troops at the dam to protect it but then who will protect the banks further down the river? legion already has cottonwood cove and various raiding camps deeper inside ncr territory , the thin line of troops guarding the banks would be overwhelmed and the morons at the dam would be enveloped and destroyed because the morons at the strip and camp mccaran are tied down by raider degenerates
Many of the troops equipped with the Sequoia revolver were also vets of slaver wars in southern California and attempted to get it banned across the whole country northern California still has it though and on the barrels of the sequoias are the words "For honorable service" on the right
"Against all tyrants" on the left
My banner shall control the Mojave, render unto Yes Man
Kinda ironic that Caesar's Legion fights more like Gauls and Germanic tribes while the NCR acts more like the Roman Empire with establishing forts and outposts
I think they both represent Rome. The NCR in represents the old Roman republic days and Roman politics and the such while the legion represents the extremely militaristic side of Rome especially early Rome where everything was about military merit.
Whoever made the animations needs a raise. Awesome job
Id say probably 10K with the NCR like you said since they based their millitary on the pre war U.S
But for the Legion id say at LEAST 15K.
I decided to check out your channel and subscribe to you because of your video collaboration with RadKing which I absolutely love that video so this is my first time checking out your channel so far I like it a lot thank you😊

@theneocypher just saw this that's DOPE can't wait
After installing Titans of the New West I've been completely Brotherhood pilled and convinced that they wipe both factions off the face of the Earth with enough suits.
It’s crazy how strong power armor is in lore
Completely agree.

as much as i like both of them for their aesthetics i dont think either is a good choice for the mojave in their current form , the ncr is expanding to its own detriment and a host of other issues while the legion is extremely nebulous and i cant quite put a finger on them outside of the obvious nonsense like slavery etc etc but i suspect that is due to the fact that a lot of their content is missing , also 19:22 is more copium from NCReddit

With the way stories are being written these day, it may be a good thing that there won’t be a sequel.
@@theneocypher a fair point
Given how wildly different the Mojave will be depending on what path you played, there's no way there could be a canon ending that wouldn't piss off a huge chunk of the fan base.
Best to tell a Different story@@Thagomizer

Not quite
A 1960s U.S. Army with virtually zero air or armor support.
Melee in real life wouldn’t do as good as in game. The NCR would have and easier time in open confrontations compared to the legion

@@johanbjorkman1914 if they really were Cesar should have went into the Roman republic era
For The NCR!!
For the Mojave!!.
We shall live forever!!.
Or die trying!!.
You know its a video game when hockey pads and leather is considered armor vs firearms. 😂
Retribution!
Ave!
Vive la République !!
This video was really great !!
Thank you so much!!
Man is glazing the legion a little bit
"Due to the unforseen destruction of the Divide"
my ncr courier: oopsie

I appreciate your vigor, but they are not equivalent to a modern military
It’s a matter of tactics because the NCR refuses to change their tactics when fighting the Legion because Oliver is incompetent
Looking forward to the second season of the fallout show

If we had lore accurate power armour it's the Brotherhood all the way. Power armour shrugs off all small arms fire so 99% of the firepower available to both these major factions. The only thing holding back the Brotherhood is their, relatively, small numbers. They probably only have 10% of the manpower of the NCR and Legion which means they can't control the vast territories the other factions do.
Can’t argue with this one
How TF did I miss 5 videos?! 😭😭

Cuz fascism is bad?
I honestly don’t know how the Caesar’s Legion would survive and thrive without “Caesar”.
Legate Lanius? He’s not that charismatic to lead one.
To be clear, I love the video, just disagreeing on finer points.
time plays on the NCR's side, Caesar isn't young and everyone agrees when he dies so does the legion. All the NCR has to do is to buy time and given their population, acceptance og women, ghouls and super mutants into the army as well as their arms industry there's no reason to beleive they can'r just hold out until caesar dies aand the legion tears itself apart.
