You remind me of Rumi’s poetry a lot, Sophie. Here’s one of my favorite perhaps you’d like...
This being human is a guest house.
    Every morning a new arrival.
    A joy, a depression, a meanness,
    some momentary awareness comes
    As an unexpected visitor.
    Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
    who violently sweep your house
    empty of its furniture,
    still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
    for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
    Be grateful for whoever comes,
    because each has been sent
    as a guide from beyond.
As always, a ton of 💜 to you!

Im laughing right now Sophie because i was doing this yesterday in my kitchen. Ill tell you sometimes its hard your looking at something and think well i can use this for this or that when honestly you wont be doing anything with it you have to fight that mental block and just say let it go let someone else who may actually need it have it. I love that you sell and donate things i got rid of alot of kitchen stuff and also found out a battered womens shelter needed kitchen items thats like 5 minutes from my house! Called them up and said mask up im on my way! There is so many avenues that happen when you declutter our lives. Great video Sophie

Hi Sophie, Would very much like to
say how much I appreciate and enjoy your videos. Your voice is
very calming and pleasant to listen to. The background music you
choose blends in so well with
your sweet gentle voice. I do not
have too much to declutter. Purely
as I have chosen to live in a nice
studio apartment in Zurich. I did
so originally as I have always enjoyed living small, simply and
minimally. But not going short of
anything in life. My clothes and
other objects must be loved and
used regularly or out they go. We
    have four very different seasons,
    requiring numerous different shoes
and jackets But bearing this in mind, I only keep what is functional
and used regularly. I use the one
out rule first before something new
comes in. But the articles need to
be of the same category eg: a pair
of trainers out and only then the new
ones come in. This is a great way of
not storing old things. Nor do I keep
things with the idea of I may need
this thing one day in the future. But
    living in Zurich means everything
from good clothing, healthy unpackaged bio food is always
on hand all year round. One does not even need a car, with the great
public transport we have. All the
    best.

      @@anashappydays Hi Ana, Are
You a minimalist or planning to
become one? When I started I
just did it little by little bit. As
Sophie said in this video - just
start with one drawer. Once I
      decluttered most things I was
not using, it lead to many other
areas in my life. Like things we
carry in our minds and our hearts.
      Toxic people, past mistakes and
and and...... Slowly is the way to
go and just take baby steps at a
time. It is also not that you can
declutter once and for all in life.
Like if someone is horrible to
you tomorrow, then just say to
yourself it is their problem and
not yours. Then just stop seeing
      that person. A partner, family
      member, neighbour or whoever.
This all takes time. I am at a
point in my life now where I feel
      very happy and peaceful. But
      maybe something that makes
      me unhappy say next week.
Then I just say to that person
what kind of hate are you
carrying in your life from your
past and do not think you are
      hurting me but only yourself.
Then just walk away and then
get them out of your life. Do
      not worry about having no
friends. Go to a new group
and perhaps you meet a nice
      person or people there. There
is a lot of good in this world.
Just be patient , think positive,
declutter bit by bit. Only good
can come from this. But I am
68 now and only became a
      minimalist about 5 years ago.
      Promise you, I have never
looked back Ana. All the best.

I loved this comment so much! Thank you for sharing your tips and your way of life. It is inspiring to me. I particularly love the one out rule as well, as it helps me to not to accumulate too much in my home. It's very commendable that you are able to filter out only what is a functional and used regularly even in Switzerland with 4 seasons. In Hawaii, we only have one season, but my closet is still full of clothes that I don't wear. I recently fixed up a bike and have been biking everywhere (grocery store, cafe, park), and I have been enjoying it so much. Questioning if my husband and I really need 2 cars. Thank you so much and hope everything is well in Switzerland!

I completely agree that clutter in your space is related to clutter in your mind. My computer desktop is also another place that's got a lot of clutter and needs to be...purged. I feel it all the time as I'm trying to declutter while still progressing and doing other important activities. When decluttering I also think about, is it easy for me to buy another one if I end up needing it tomorrow. For thinks like old spices, or used kitchen appliances the answers is certainly yes. Great and peaceful video as always, you make the process of declutter look so easy and peaceful. FYI, my next video will go over my fruit sticker cardboard. Like -109

Sometimes people are sentimentally attached to something's which they cannot dispose. A comfortable home should be clean and well organized. Good idea. Nice video. If possible & ur comfortable start blogging on the natural beauty of the place u live and as ur close to nature and seem to be well conversant about herbs and leaves start cooking blogs specially on food which develop immunity. I started decluttering by getting rid of plastic storage containers. I can taste the plastic in the food I store in it, and I asked myself, if I hate that about something i own, why keep it? My husband is also helping by saving glass jelly jars that we can use instead of buying new glass containers.

I like better decluttering and donating stuff in my home then shopping. I dread shopping of any kind. Specially now with covid going on I hate going inside stores.

Why is it that all the kitchen countertops and table collect clutter? I swear my family is clutter-blind! They just don't see it. I'm working on this mindful decluttering process, but it's going to take awhile. Thanks for the suggestions.

    • @MalamaLife
      @MalamaLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sean, I think you just discovered a new word: clutter-blind. haha I love it! Kitchen countertops and kitchen in general is such a challenge for me. I try my best to clear it after every meal so that it doesn't have a chance to accumulate. Hope you are having a great sunday

@@MalamaLife Hi Sophie! I can't take credit for clutter-blind, I'm sure I heard it on TV somewhere. I think it's a common condition though! Our kitchen clutter is part of my old house design. The side entry door that we all use goes right into the kitchen, so stuff just accumulates there. Maybe someday I'll get to remodel, for now I just need to keep after it. I had a pretty good day, I hope you have a great day too!

I am sharing home with my mom. I wanna go the minimalist way and planned couple of months ago to discard things that is not being use at all but my mom is such a- I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ she doesn’t like to throw things because she said it can be use for some time. But me, as I’m the one cleaning the entire house really gets tired about those stuffs. I don’t know if this make sense but it became our argument every time I try to throw away things I know that is useless. Maybe because she owns the house but damn I’m the one cleaning and organizing though 🙄😫

    • @MalamaLife
      @MalamaLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Oh I'm sure that can be really frustrating when you are making strides towards an organized and minimalist home, but you don't see eye to eye with other family members. This is something that I struggle with because I am quite frugal so I don't want to throw things away, but at the same time, I want to throw away things that aren't being used now. I hope you and your mom can find a middle ground and negotiate while you live there!

Help. This is coming from someone who is a habitual declutterer and minimalist (meaning I keep what I love and need only and stopped shopping after healing from the shopaholic disease). I usually declutter every 6 months, but the last 2 years, I did that more often. I am decluttering again today, and the clothes are so much harder than I thought. I have high quality items that I neither wear, nor do I feel excited about selling or giving away. I am struggling with the thought of how can I get rid of something valuable that will only increase in value over time. This is because my family has this habit of just throwing stuff away, that no way I can find anywhere now, and if I did, I wouldn't be able to afford it. Then again, these items don't really make me happy to look at. What is going on?
