    Glad I saw this, when I bought my place the furnace had a cracked exchanger, Coleman replaced it under the dgat recall. This tells me to keep an eye on the replacement now as well.

    Maybe I should have listened to my installer. Mine said to go with the 80, but I had a DGAA 90 installed in our double wide in 2010, that came with a 10 year warranty on the heat exchanger. I had the installer out 9 1/2 years later and the HX looked just like the one in the video. They ordered the replacement from Coleman, the part was no charge and only had to pay the install charge. Totally glad I had it done, but will consider a smaller quieter furnace next time it cracks. I wonder if the new HX is any better?

      You can derate the furnace to 77 or 70000 Btu by changing the Orfice to save the heat exchanger
      They are all the same furnace just a different size Orfice.

    Wasn't there a recall on the heat exchangers in the early 2000's? I swear I remember these needing stainless steel plates installed as part of a recall/bulletin.

    All I do is RV and small mobile home (up to 56K BTU) furnaces. It concerns me that internal shields block the view of some areas when inspecting the chamber/HX for cracks. Is there a particular CO detector or sensitivity level you recommend for a detector to sniff the output ducts with? Klein has a $99 model I've been considering.

  • @Chuck_S
    @Chuck_S ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That looks like a shield cracked instead of a HX

    I have that exact Coleman furnace. How hard is it to change out the heat exchanger in a Coleman counter flow?

      @@MiHeatingGuy Saw the price of a heat exchanger. (STICKER SHOCK!) Almost the price of a new Coleman furnace. I see the new Colemans 80% even have those dang expensive ECM motors.

    Anytime we see a 90 on a DGAA - Always cracked. Also when you factor in that many contractors who install AC afterward they do not install a Manufacture home AC coil (Mortex). The ductwork in manufacture homes are really small. You cannot go with a small narrow resi A coil in a manufacture home. Did you also notice the pleated filter?? If you where involved in the Coleman recall program they clearly state that pleated type filters are a no no, they really stress the heat exchangers.
    So .......1- Oversized furnace + Narrow AC coil + Pleated filters= Big Crack!

      Pleated 1 Inch filters on any force are a bad idea, problem is people don't listen.

      Whats the gas pressure, temp rise and static,?

    We always offered the high efficiency miller furnace. Most of our customers opted for the single stage millers and were very happy mainly with the difference in noise levels.

    I replaced a heat exchanger on a 10 year old dgaa last year. Definitely stupid to have a 90k btu. They always crack. This model had the 2 speed psc blower. I made a jumper to use only the high speed on the motor. The slow speed just isn't fast enough.

    That heat exchanger is cracked out like tyrone biggums from dave chapelle. Good catch! It seems coleman mobile furnaces and carrier furnaces of all sorts like to have really defective heat exchangers. That thing looks like it was massively overfired. Wow! Again, good catch

    Over the life of a new furnace, the price of gas could rise a lot - it's very cheap now. It blows my mind how mids are still commonly sold in the northeast us when venting/draining condensing is not an issue. Safer, quieter when direct vented anyway. We haven't had them in canada for 10 years, why throw 20% of the heat away?
    I understand giving different options though, not criticizing you.
