Hello everyone. Try using this delicious recipe as a pie filling with savoury short crust pastry. Line the dish bottom, add the filling and top with pastry. Reduce the liquid in the filling as it will seep into the pie crust. In Northern Ireland we call it Corned beef pie. It's unbelievable and a great family meal. Jason in Belfast.
That's a great idea! I've never had this but it looks tasty and your suggestion has inspired me to do a cottage pie style one with a potato top. Thanks for that! :)
I made this yesterday in the slow cooker, 8 hrs on low and added the peas, corned beef, mustard and some dumplings for the last hour. It must be the tastiest meal i've ever made in my s/c. It didn't need any cornflour thickener as it came out perfect. Thankyou Cheryl.
Amazing how the things you're Ma makes for us when we were poor wanes is something you still love as an adult. My 80 year old dad still loves his Spam fritters 😁
This is very similar to my family's Corned Beef Hash. We didn't use cabbage, we fried the onions then added carrots and swede. We then add the stock, peas and a tin of Heinz Scotch Broth! It's a much wetter mixture than yours, but if you let it cook longer and let the corned beef disintegrate a bit more it starts to thicken itself. Lovely! We served ours in a big Yorkshire pudding! (Home made, not bought!) Beautiful hash, edible bowl! Win-win! Watching your video has made me hungry. I might have to make a corned beef hash in the next few days!
Great food takes me back to Monday tea in our house and me Ma would use the left over cabbage/sprouts and roast potatoes in her hash. Oh almost forgot I put some sharp cheddar on mine to toast off under the grill.
I have never been a fan of corned beef or corned beef hash.... I have to admit I had only had it mashed up with mashed potatoes. I tried this & it is delicious. I am just about to make it for the second time. It’s so quick when you are short of time or if like me you forget to take your meat out of the freezer. Thankyou so much
I love your channel! I am in the USA and so fascinated by the British Isles. My ultimate dream would be to live there for a year to travel and study foods, customs, crafts, etc. ❗️❗️
My grandma always made it with a soft poached egg and sliced tomatoes, I now make it for my daughter. I think I am one of a few Americans who eat it regularly, lol.
We have oxo cubes in New Zealand too, I love them, they're the best! I use them all the time, mostly in my soups, stews, casseroles and my world's best scratch gravey that my mum taught me to make with roasts 😊😊
My Mum used to make this when we were kids in Liverpool UK but she left the cabbage out of the pot and put cabbage on the side and sometimes cheese on top.Haven't had this for many years. I need to try your recipe now 😁
When we came to canada my DAD used to make corned beef hash for supper all the time, just eggs and tinned corn beef. didnt have alot of the other stuff back then.
Well I’ll tell you your corned beef in a can looks wonderful! Not what we have here in Seattle ☔️ yours looks great and what a beautiful meal it makes! Tfs dear 💕
Good grief woman! This was delicious too (in spite of me almost coming a cropper attempting to grill the dish so I'm not certain I would do that the next time). Will there be a next time - YOU BET THERE WILL BE. You're an absolute Godsend. And, yes, every Thursday that I stand at my front door and clap for the folk working so hard keeping us all going you are definitely included in the count.
Iv just made this, never had corned beef hash in my life. Amazing is a understatement, going to be part of my life now, love good hearty dinners like that
I've never used cabbage in my corned beef hash (or mustard), but I will be now. I've always loved corned beef hash, think I'm going to love it even more now. Thanks Cheryl. 🤤
Apart from adding a slack handful of frozen peas and boiling the potatoes first I make mine like your Gran. Still I love Corned Beef Hash and I trying some parts of yours is worth a try.
I'm not a fan of corn beef but my mum does like corn beef hash and I recon she will have me trying this recipe out for her thanks for sharing this Cheryl X
Thank you for this recipe. I’ve made it for dinner today and served it up just with pancakes. It went down a treat with everyone. It was so cheap to make too.
Def gonna try this. My mom's corned beef hash sounds very similar to your mom's, just potato and the corned beef mashed together. Delicious, but always felt it could be improved.
made this for dinner tonight! using carrots instead of cabbage! served this with English pancakes like my mom used to do! absolutley delicious corned beef hash! ❤
Corned Beef Hash! One of my childhood favs, but I've only ever made the simplest version - yours looks delectable! Yum! Here in the states, I guess we'd be using Russet potatoes. Think I'll make it in March, from leftover corned beef.
I've heard of this from US movies but I've never really known what cooking it entailed. It does look like a tasty meal and I will definitely be trying this with my left over corned beef the next time I cook some. I always have quite a bit left over as I'm only cooking for me now and while I slice and freeze it usually and either reheat it or thaw it for cold meat salads and the like in Summer, it's always good to have another way to use it. I think I may give Jason McGiloway's suggestion a go too, and use it as a pie filling, only I think I'll do a potato topped, cottage pie version.
That looks so good, my Großmutter use to make something like that and she made it with spam rather than Corned beef. I bet that would go great with a fresh baked bread roll to.
Hallo I have to try this. It's 1:28 and I soooo hungry. After the Holly days this is the first thing I will cook. Wish you an your loved ones a peaceful Christmas. Greatings from Germany Frankfurt. Thank you for your time 🎁🎄☃️💖
Thanks for uploading, all these Americans making it don't do it justice, this is how it is and should be, childhood memories :) I'll make it this afternoon.
this vid took me back to a time (50+ years ago) when I used to make this - except I used a tin of heinz beans instead of peas, and a big dollop of HP brown sauce instead of worcestershire sauce to add a bit more flavour to the gravy (couple of OXO cubes crumpled in hot water)
My mum used to make it in a pie dish with mashed potatoes on the top in the oven and served with proper gravy which she would have saved from.the Sunday roast. Monday was always cold meat and bubble and squeak and often on a Tuesday corned beef pie. Tonight I'm going to try your recipe. Thank you 😋
Can’t wait for my partner to try this!! He’s French and only just moved to the U.K. with me fingers crossed he’ll love this as much as I do 😂 you’ve kept this super simple I can’t wait to watch your other videos thank you! New sub!
I've been making this for about 50 years now, my 2 son's love it, my youngest son would live off it I make enough to serve us 2 night, the first night we have it with dumplings and the second night we finish it off with Yorkshire pudding, I'm a Yorkshire lass, you should try it with dumplings or Yorkshire Pud you'll love it even more.
Thanks for this! I haven't followed it strictly, but I needed a reminder and this was perfect. I wouldn't have normally done the grilling step, great tip!
I love corned beef hash. I precook carrot and potato. Then whatever veg. I have on hand goes into the frying pan with the carrots and potato. I like that you make additions and then brown it in the oven. I will try that. Thanks
An interesting take on it and one I'm going to try thanks, my mother made it the same way as yours and I still love it that way with grated cheese grilled on top at the end. Hmm, let go see what's in me fridge..
I haven’t had corned beef hash for ages! Worcestershire sauce is definitely difficult to say 😀 a bit like Milngavie 😂 Try saying Wooster shire. Thanks for a delicious looking recipe, it beats mine into a cocked hat!
My mom and I used to laugh at each other when we called worster .... "wash-your-sister" sauce. 😀 Your recipe sounds yummy and I can't wait to try it! Thanks for sharing! Xoxo

I'm not a fan of corn beef but my mum does like corn beef hash and I recon she will have me trying this recipe out for her thanks for sharing this Cheryl X
I think most of us just say "wooster" sauce saves a lot of tongue twisting 😂. Lovely recipe, great idea of the fried egg on top.
We in Maine say Wister-shire sauce.
I am from Worcestershire. Everyone here says “Wuster”
@@stalwart263 Yes, "Wustershear'.
This looks awesome. Love the addition of cabbage and peas to what is my normal hash recipe.
I'm a fan of corned beef hash. I never had it with cabbage in it, but I will now. My brain is drooling! :D xx
