- The V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo develops 600 horsepower (441 kW) in the new 2020-2021 BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible, and 625 horsepower (460 kW) in the Competition models. The high-performance power unit teams up with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, and the engine’s power is channelled to the road via the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Via the Setup menu, the driver can choose between the default 4WD setting and 4WD Sport mode, which diverts a larger slice of engine power to the rear wheels. Deactivating DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) brings 2WD mode into the equation.
The new 2020 BMW M8 Coupe and Convertible to power from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 and 3.4 seconds. The new M8 Competition Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, the M8 Competition Convertible in 3.3 seconds.

Exactly. This being a coupe, even more of a halo car than the M5, I was expecting a slight bump on the horsepower...even if just a bit, like 650 for the standard and 675 for the Competition...would already make it a more interesting performer...
And also increase the gap, since the M850i at 530 hp is pretty damn close...

When I saw the first pictures of the new 8 series my first thought was it looked a little awkward and not particularly good looking and I never really changed that view until I had the chance to see one recently in the flesh and my god, this is one of those cars that pictures cannot do it justice, in the flesh it is incredibly beautiful, so much lower and sleeker than the pictures portray. BMW have really nailed it with this car, it makes the Mercedes S class Coupe look old and fat and even the Aston Martin DB11 looks kinda odd compared to this thing!
Becareful that we have bmw 8 series and bmw M8 their two different cars and these one is Bmw M8 is expensive than 8 series

Something is wrong with the proportions, Because of the length, I think its needs wider rear fenders and wheels, It just doesn't look like it belongs or exceeds in the class that it is in with Astons and Maseratis, Ferrari California etc.
The feeling of that car, is almost the same as The BMW 850, they are going to be almost the same performance, not that of a difference.

@@davidmanasas6606 yes I suppose so....this vehicle doesn't have the raw sportscar look that I thought it would have....something a little more aggressive like the concept in green...this model I see right now doesn't look much better ( any different really ) than the 850i with m options
After the pain of the new 1 series some relief , however i do feel the headlights are wrong , the concept was correct, its not bespoke enough also to have the 8 series badge it's a 6 series at most . The 8 should have gone to the nxt level , direct ferrari competitor

Absolute beauty, however if you ask me, rather, buy the m850i which has the proper V8 sound other than this dissapointing sound track on this car, the M division is contiually failing the M cars..the m850i makes sense for me..

First, apologies for the long reply, but I feel as though I've addressed your confusion on the subject.
If you're familiar with the history of the 8 series (first generation 1990-1999: E31/second generation 2019 -???: G15) and the 6 series (first generation 1976 -1989: E24/ second and third generation 2004 - 2018: E64/F06) than you would know that BMW alternates between the two flagship models when the previous generation's life cycle comes to an end. In other words, first came the E24(6 series), then the E31(8 series), this was followed by the E64/F06(6 series), and most recently BMW reintroduced the G15 (8 series). There is a common misconception (held by many) that the 8 series is a spiritual successor to the 6 series because the two exist (relatively speaking) in the same model segment at a similar price point. However, you will find that upon closer inspection the 8 series is a completely different vehicle aimed at a higher segment than the 6 series. The difference between the two being performance, price, quality, technology and approach. For instance, the new BMW 8 series not only employs a higher standard of quality than the outgoing 6 series (sit in both and conduct a side by side comparison you will see what I mean from a technological and luxury standpoint) but it will also outperform the outgoing model quite a bit (the new M8 is a full second faster from 0-100km/h and will whoop the old 6 series on a track). From my understanding, the confusion comes from the design of the car, as certain features are present on both cars (L shaped tailights for example). Unfortunately, what people tend to forget is that BMW employs an evolutionary approach to styling/execution in their cars (builds upon or tweaks existing features) rather than a revolutionary based styling/execution (new looking car with every generation), meaning that all models from BMW (from the 1 series to the 8 series) will share some core features. As a result, some models will look more akin to one another but will remain separate because of key features similar to the ones mentioned earlier (mainly performance, technology, luxury). All in all, the 8 series is the logical and superior replacement for the 6 series (remember correlation does not equal causation, I.e. just because the 8 series shares design elements with the 6 series does not mean that it is, in fact, a rebadged 6 series/just because they look the same does not mean that they are the same). This or an M5 competition? Same speed, exterior M8 is better, interior M5 is better. Which one would you pick. The fastest 4 door(M5 competition) or probably the fastest GT car(M8 competition)? I would go for the M5 because I like both the same but the M5 is more legendary.
The interior is nearly identical, the only difference is that the M8 is a coupe so it has less space

My dad has an M5 competition, and I sat in the M8 competition in slovakia BMW M town when BMW invited us to take a look at the car and drive some other cars. The M8s center console is much diffrent, and its seats are uglier and less comftrable.

Beautiful car but in canada the up-keep cost is overpriced. There for the car loosing insane value.. there for it's waist of money. In Europe it makes more sense. Plus it's BMW you can get way more exotic vehicles at that price tag.
