@@marduk17 For a lot of them, you don't even need to grind - just be smart about your options. SMT3 isn't all that hard, you just need to use demons and magatama strategically. Matador is a roadblock for a lot because mainline SMT demands you use buffs and debuffs while in most other series, they're near useless
I feel you. A lot of people complain that you can't control party members in 3, but I found the battles pretty well balanced towards this gimmick so it isn't really an issue.

I´ve actually started the SMT series with playing Revelations Persona on PSP, and are enjoying it despite its flaws with first person dungeon crawls and tedious battles... The story is just that good. Hearing that you think it´s the worst of the bunch actually makes me happy; it will only get better from here is what you´re saying! ;-)
I recently played Persona Q/Persona Q2 and they are my introduction to both series. I gotta say, I fucking loved them. Never thought I'd like a dungeon crawler, but they are amazing. Not even once I thought about finishing a labyrinth without having completed the map. The sidequests were simple and engaging, it also never felt like a chore. I loved these games. Now unfortunately, I don't have any system with other Persona games, but I do have the 3ds obviously, so I got 6 SMT games to choose from next.
Now imagine playing these game if you were already a player of the persona series? would be 10x better but i'm glad this games welcomed you to the franchise my friend, hope you enjoy it as much as i do
Persona Q is why I got into Persona in the first place. I am a massive Etrian Odyssey fan and I really like SMT as well. When Persona Q was announced, I was enthralled with the trailer and would watch it a dozen times a day at least for six months before the release. I figured it would be better going in knowing the characters and the story better, so that inspired me to get a PSP and Vita (long story why I needed both that is not worth getting into) to play P3P and P4G, both of which I largely enjoyed. Persona Q is one of my favourite games. Q2 was good as well, but I don't like the P5 cast, and I didn't feel the same connection to the NPCs that I did in Q, so I enjoyed it very much but did not love it. You should go back and try some of the Etrian Odyssey games if you haven't. I'd recommend starting with Millennial Girl: it's a great one since it has a fixed party (you can opt out of that) and a very engaging storyline and is well-balanced. I suspect you would like it a lot.
Nocturne I think is my favorite SMT/atlus game for a reason I don't understand, there is something so appealing about the game's atmosphere and the characters that always compels me to replay it(also it has the best ost, the one that plays in the world map before you enter THAT tower). I agree though that Devil survivor is the best.
For me is its simplicity. You don't have a million side quests, you don't have a confusing Alignment system that forces you to look up guides to know how to get the ending you want, it doesn't bombards you with exposition nor long cutscenes. It's just you, the Demi-fiend journeying through a devastated Tokyo seeing how the characters all reach their own conclusions while on their own journeys. Plus, the True Demon Ending is probably the best in the series and its not super convoluted or weird like in the others, here you just team up with Lucifer and go punch God in the face. That's it.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions was my first SMT game. For that, I’ll be eternally grateful. I loved the gameplay, and every game after that just got better and better
If Erick had played P5 Royal I reckon he actually would rank it higher than the original as so much got added. New characters, new storyline, great new music, quality of life improvements, also made Akechi a much better character than original P5.

I watched a 2 hour + comprehensive video on the entire franchise recently, and I gotta say that the MegaTen series is extremely underrated. It needs to be in the same breath as final fantasy when it comes JRPG’s

My order: 1) SMT V, 2) Digital Devil Saga 1&2, 3) Persona 3 FES + The Answer, 4) Persona 4, 5) SMT III Nocturne, 6) Persona 5 Royal & original release (tie), 7) Persona 3 original release. I loved SMT V, but afraid the older games are not for me. High encounter rates sound very frustrating and after beating V on Hard, I don't think I would get satisfaction out of anything lower.
SMT 4 and SMT 4 Apocalypse dont have random encounter. In SMT III Nocturne HD Remaster u can practically disable ,,random encounters'' by switching to Merciful Mode. SMT Devil Summoner Soul Hackers (3DS version) and SMT Strange Journey Redux have a multiple apps who can made game less frustrating than original SH/SJ such like save anywhere, or disable random encounters with lower lvl than you.
Damn I think the snes games smt 1 2 and if are worth checking but can understand new player's not wanting to deal with all that backtracking and random encounters
Nocturne’s encounter rates are honestly not that bad. It’s about as high as like Final Fantasy 7 or something. Plus you can use items or a spell to reduce them. Also get the HD version, it makes a game changing QoL change by letting you pick skills upon fusion whereas the original was randomized and you had to reroll it everytime to get the skills you want.
I'm surprised SMT5 is so high. The story is so blah. I'd rank 3 and 4 over it just on story alone. Sure, it still has the fun combat of the others but if I were in charge of SMT6, I'd incorporate more elements from 4 and Apocalypse, or at the very least have more story in the game. You spend so much time in the same apocalyptic area that they kind of all just blended together. Where's the environmental variety, the lore and characters that make SMT awesome? The game feels half-done, like it was just a partial draft of the final script.

Also i hate music in P3. There is also a lot of other issues in vanila P3 like uncontrolable party members, repetive shadow design (i prefer normal demons instead of generic/randomized shadows), Social Links are very basic, forgettable villains (Streta), fatigue system. There is a lot problems with P3, even P3 FES /P3 Portable dont fixed all of P3 problems. Story in P3 is good, but P3 FES ruins everything and have a ... another boring and repetive dungeon. As a dungeon crawler this game sucks in my opinion. Persona 5 is just worse clone of Persona 4, except in gameplay aspect.

The music in all of Persona is fantastic with no exception. The social links in P3 vary in quality but there are definitely some social links that are some of the best out of 3-4-5 like Sun, Death and Lovers. Oh and Tartarus being the worst dungeon ever is the overstatement of the century. Not only are there much worse dungeons but heck let's not go outside of Persona, Mementos in Persona 5 is just Tartarus but like worse in more ways than one. P3P fixed the fatigue system by making the team only tired if they are KOed and not after a specific number of battles. It also allowed you to study at night without the chance of becoming tired. And again, I respect your opinion but it doesn't mean I can't comment on it. I won't hate you for disliking Persona 3 nor will I do anything bad. I just hope this comment won't trigger/anger you.
I remember trying Smt games when they where released but I never got Into them, it wasn't until Person 5 Royal that I got hooked. I didn't play strikers, didn't care for the departure of the combat system, Playing through Persona 4 golden now and want to try Smt 5

I just got into the series with Persona 3 Reload and it is easily one of the best games I have ever played, put 100 hours into reload and am playing Persona 5 Royal now, definitely wish I found these games sooner it very well may turn out to be my favorite game series of all time.
Agreed! I did enjoy 2, but in no world is it the best, like a lot of people say. The gameplay/difficulty was just too chaotic. Never chored through battles and mazes more than there, and with only a few moments of S-tier development to go with it. I will say, the transition from 2 into its sequel was worth it, though. But only to do once in my life, lol
I think most people consider the Persona 2 duology to be the best because of the story, not the gameplay. I do think the gameplay is clunky and dated with some weird difficulty spikes, but the story is by far the best in the entire Persona series, no doubt about it, and it makes me rank both games higher than Persona 5, for example.

I'm still playing Strange Journey redux and you can get a tweak to reduce encounter number on the third dungeon, I think that helps with the absurd lenght
Never got encounter rate and dungeon length problem in Strange Journey (on DS at least). You have encounter lowering sub apps, most battles last 1-4 turns and the game almost never requires grinding. Teleporters sections are small. Probably the only smt game where i wasn't fatigued with combat or dungeons. The only bad thing in the game in my opinion is final boss. You get to it in mid 50s levels, maybe at level 60 max, and it just nukes your party even with vitality build in 1 turn. And it does so until you get to like level 80 or something. They just stuffed all 10 hours of the grind in the last boss. My advice - don't bother - just download reflect all jack frost from the code and cave into the corner with defense command while waiting for the boss to kill itself in fight with lvl5 reflect jack frost. And combat not having a press turn system is a bit of a letdown i guess, but at least it flows fast. But yeah, fk final boss. If not for it, it would've been my favourite game.

I really like the persona games and the artwork of persona 5 is what drew me to it. All thanks to the invitation to smash bros. I bought P5 for PS3 and have like 100 hours in it, but im not a guy that really can play games that long.. that said i still have to beat the final boss.. I also played a big chunk of Persona 2 and Persona 4 on Vita. I bought Persona 3 and only played it for an hour cause I was playing all these games at the same time. Persona 1 on Vita isnt that bad I just dont like to grind a lot for a boss. I only recently am trying to buy all SMT games too (well not all but most of them where possible) im playing smt 3 on switch and had to grind a bit for the matador and spammed evasion buff on my team. Only recently found out all these smt games are on the 3ds too and am waiting for discounts. I found smt digital devil second hand for like 80 euros, but then saw that on ps3 store you can get both for like 9 euros a piece. What im saying is this series is really good and made me love turn based rpgs.

devil survivor overclocked, and record breaker are the first smt games i ever finished and i enjoyed them so much. never played persona 4 but i have played 3 on the psp but i didn't beat it. and i have royal but i didn't get that far i think, i got stuck on that boss fight in the ufo and just rage quit it. 😅 oh well, with my ps4 dead and no chance of me getting a ps5 soon. i'll just have to forget about p5, maybe i'll give p4 golden a try since it's on steam
Persona & SMT may not be my favorite series.. But there’s something about it that makes it addictive to play portably for me since P4G on Vita.. I really look forward to the upcoming Switch version of P5R
I like p3 over 4 and 5. The one thing I didn't like is where the story goes near the end game. It just didn't make sense. But I like the battles and how you set your teams AI strategy. I also like the musical style though I enjoyed P5's city theme. SPOLER: I didn't like how the people fell into an online cult. Sure, for young people in that world, it would make sense, but older people? I know some will say "well look at what social media does" but the plot was designed around a world that didn't have social media like it would be a few years later.
@@sharebear421 No, it isn't. You don't need to grind in any of the SMT games except Devil Saga. In other SMT games, you change your demons if you struggle to kill a boss, maybe fuse new ones with skills to help you kill the boss. In the Devil Saga there's non of that. If you can't beat a boss the literally only thing to do is go back and grind. That's the difference.

Oh it gets way better from SMT Nocturne and onwards, persona and other spin-offs included. Even persona 2 makes improvements, though I highly recommend playing the dualogy on an emulator so you can just speed through encounters cause it’s still insanely high unfortunately. The story more than makes up for that I think.
You really should have played P5 Royal: although it seems logically impossible, P5 Royal makes perfection even more perfect. By the by, I am really looking forward for the PS5 releases of P3 Portable and P4 Golden next year, since I have never played any and, in my opinion, P5 Royal is the best videogame that has ever existed.
Devil Survivor is fighting for the spot of my best strategy rpg against Yggdra Union. After I am done with the latter(I finally played the psp version), I'll play Devil Survivor without free battle to make a proper difficulty review.
yes..a lot...psp version is a downgraded pocket version of the ps2 version....i dont care that in the psp version you can play as a girl (since im a straight boy and i want my dating simulation to be with girls) because ps2 version (of course i mean FES) is way way better than the psp version so yeah...persona 3 FES forever
It's different but still cool. You can now play as a girl with different social links, you can control your characters and other quality of life changes. With that being said, the cutscenes have been removed and replaced with a visual novelesque approach and the extra campaign of The answer. Both are good in their own ways.
Tokyo mirage is the best crossover between smt and FE😉 About Strange journey I goin to say a thing: sector Eridanus! This maze have mazes into the maze. And yes SMT IV have the best soundtrack.
I just finished SMT 3 and IDK, the dungeons pissed me off. Constantly warp, fall through map, it's so annoying i had to switch to easy mode lol. Glad I beat it and can finally go to SMT 5
persona 4 had better gameplay but the story and characters are much better, the atmosphere was perfect and the main theme ufh, it was my second persona but my favorite in that level ( but persona 5 is better in general )
i never played the raidou kuzunoh games but they look prety cool in terms of gameplay and specially the seting. wish they brougth back that series as well as other smt series i never played. i actually didnt play a lot of those games and i think it would be cool if they released more than just persona and smt. im happy they gonna release soul hackers 2
“Persona 3 Portable” is probably my favorite of the “Persona” sub-series of “SMT”. I just love the characters and story the best. BUT!!! Only if it is the “P3 Portable” edition with the revised combat. I also think “Devil Survivor” was AMAZING!!! But “Tokyo Mirage Sessions”, while not what we expected or maybe wanted, is a great JRPG that’s fun to play.
I'm surprised you put the 2 Devil Children games as the second worst in the franchise, given that on your previous list of the top 10 SMT games you put them at #10. I didn't count, but under your conditions of "No Persona games or spin-offs, only games that had North American releases" (and with the list preceding the release of SMT V) were there actually only 10 total SMT games that counted for that list at all so they got 10th best by default? Your list also seems to have changed a bit, you said Strange Journey Redux was better than SMT IV and the Digital Devil Saga games last time. Also, the 3DS shop is about the close down, so at the last second I'm contemplating which games I should get before I miss out, most of which are MegaTen games. Devil Survivor 2 is a no-brainer since they have it at _90% off_ ($6), but I'm rather miffed to find that the original isn't even on the eshop in my region- even though we're technically the same region as the UK, Atlus didn't make the game available in Australia because fuck Australian gamers. Don't worry, we're used to it by now- this is how it's been for decades. We always get shitted on by game companies. I was planning on skipping Soul Hackers because apparently it just has too many old frustrating mechanics carried over from the really old games, but you recommend it so strongly (and it's also on sale) that I'll probably get it. Not sure about Strange Journey Redux though, it's NOT cheap and frankly sounds like it'd annoy me too much. Apocalypse is expensive too (almost twice as much as IV), but again, your recommendation may just sway me.

Game has 2 dungeons, 4 areas, missed potential for a great story, 90% of the things in the story are just never mentioned/no significance/rushed/unearned development. Love the music, visual presentation, Nahobino's design, gameplay, shiva, demi fiend fights...... that's it. SMT5 is a good game but sadly not high dev focused on n possibly affected by covid-19 pandemic.

Agreed, I have not yet played Soul Hackers 2 (it is still in my backlog), but I feel like I will enjoy it more than SMTV. I liked the gameplay, but that was it. The story was terrible.
I think nocturne is too high but I understand it. I feel like the game is too dull and uninspiring. Plus as he said the dungeons are all bad not a single good one. It was tough for it’s time but my is it super easy nowadays unless you like taking more damage and missing everything in “harder” difficulty.
SMT3 is awesome, I played it before the release of Persona 3...I enjoyed it at the time and not comparing it to the newer games after P3 unexpected success...
Man I wish devil survivor gets a new game I absolutely loved the hell out of overclocked. Also smt 4 apocalypse was extremely fun gameplay wise but the story definitely could use a remaster
I love the Persona series, but I've never actually been able to finish P3. I literally just get bored and quit around October or so. I've had people tell me about all the awesome parts they really liked, but they're apparently all in the final hours of the game. I just felt the pacing was horrible. I'll force myself to finish it just so I can say I have though.
I guess we all agree that Soul Hacker 2 deserve a 4th place from last here, being imo worse than Strange Journey in every possible way. Also you did skip Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online, but I guess if you weren't a fan of MMORPGs you would problably have never heard of it anyway
Highly recommend P3P over P3FES if you can find it. The female protagonist changes a lot and also creates a more impactful ending with one of the characters that I won't spoil.
Actually it ruins the entire point of the character to just be FemC's boyfriend instead of being a turning for two other characters (spoilers). It's purely fanservice. While yes the female protagonist changes a lot of you're gonna play with the male MC you're gonna suffer with the much worse presentation that ruins a lot of emotional moments and you can just mod the game on PS2 or add a cheat on an emulator to control your party. Neither is objectively better than the other and to get the full experience you actually have to play both (unless you don't have the time to).

I watched a 2 hour + comprehensive video on the entire franchise recently, and I gotta say that the MegaTen series is extremely underrated.
It needs to be in the same breath as final fantasy when it comes JRPG’s
Awesome list! One of the greatest RPG series of all time. My order: 1) SMT V, 2) Digital Devil Saga 1&2, 3) Persona 3 FES + The Answer, 4) Persona 4, 5) SMT III Nocturne, 6) Persona 5 Royal & original release (tie), 7) Persona 3 original release. Haven't played any others. I'm always amazed by your prolific library dude!
Right now I have played 5 royal, strikers, nocturne and a third of p3 and they are all fantastic. This would be my ranking.

I loved SMT V, but afraid the older games are not for me. High encounter rates sound very frustrating and after beating V on Hard, I don't think I would get satisfaction out of anything lower.
You tried nocturne hd remaster or have a 3ds for 4?
SMT 4 and SMT 4 Apocalypse dont have random encounter. In SMT III Nocturne HD Remaster u can practically disable ,,random encounters'' by switching to Merciful Mode. SMT Devil Summoner Soul Hackers (3DS version) and SMT Strange Journey Redux have a multiple apps who can made game less frustrating than original SH/SJ such like save anywhere, or disable random encounters with lower lvl than you.
Definitely give SMT IV and IV: Apocalypse a chance. The way you trigger battles is very similar to SMT V.
Damn I think the snes games smt 1 2 and if are worth checking but can understand new player's not wanting to deal with all that backtracking and random encounters
Nocturne’s encounter rates are honestly not that bad. It’s about as high as like Final Fantasy 7 or something. Plus you can use items or a spell to reduce them.
Also get the HD version, it makes a game changing QoL change by letting you pick skills upon fusion whereas the original was randomized and you had to reroll it everytime to get the skills you want.
I'm surprised SMT5 is so high. The story is so blah. I'd rank 3 and 4 over it just on story alone. Sure, it still has the fun combat of the others but if I were in charge of SMT6, I'd incorporate more elements from 4 and Apocalypse, or at the very least have more story in the game. You spend so much time in the same apocalyptic area that they kind of all just blended together. Where's the environmental variety, the lore and characters that make SMT awesome? The game feels half-done, like it was just a partial draft of the final script.
I started playing my first ATLUS game at SMT5, really hope that goes on PC. Now I'm playing Persona 5 Royal and holy shit ATLUS makes amazing games.

Tartarus is worst designed dungeon in dungeon crawler history. Lets face that. No puzzles in dungeon crawling is just unacceptable. Also i hate music in P3. There is also a lot of other issues in vanila P3 like uncontrolable party members, repetive shadow design (i prefer normal demons instead of generic/randomized shadows), Social Links are very basic, forgettable villains (Streta), fatigue system. There is a lot problems with P3, even P3 FES /P3 Portable dont fixed all of P3 problems. Story in P3 is good, but P3 FES ruins everything and have a ... another boring and repetive dungeon. As a dungeon crawler this game sucks in my opinion. Persona 5 is just worse clone of Persona 4, except in gameplay aspect.

Your opinion sucks tbh, everything you said is acceptable except for saying the part about the music and social links.
The music in all of Persona is fantastic with no exception.
The social links in P3 vary in quality but there are definitely some social links that are some of the best out of 3-4-5 like Sun, Death and Lovers.
Oh and Tartarus being the worst dungeon ever is the overstatement of the century.
Not only are there much worse dungeons but heck let's not go outside of Persona, Mementos in Persona 5 is just Tartarus but like worse in more ways than one.
P3P fixed the fatigue system by making the team only tired if they are KOed and not after a specific number of battles. It also allowed you to study at night without the chance of becoming tired.
And again, I respect your opinion but it doesn't mean I can't comment on it. I won't hate you for disliking Persona 3 nor will I do anything bad. I just hope this comment won't trigger/anger you.

I remember trying Smt games when they where released but I never got Into them, it wasn't until Person 5 Royal that I got hooked. I didn't play strikers, didn't care for the departure of the combat system, Playing through Persona 4 golden now and want to try Smt 5

I just got into the series with Persona 3 Reload and it is easily one of the best games I have ever played, put 100 hours into reload and am playing Persona 5 Royal now, definitely wish I found these games sooner it very well may turn out to be my favorite game series of all time.
Agreed! I did enjoy 2, but in no world is it the best, like a lot of people say. The gameplay/difficulty was just too chaotic. Never chored through battles and mazes more than there, and with only a few moments of S-tier development to go with it. I will say, the transition from 2 into its sequel was worth it, though. But only to do once in my life, lol
I think most people consider the Persona 2 duology to be the best because of the story, not the gameplay. I do think the gameplay is clunky and dated with some weird difficulty spikes, but the story is by far the best in the entire Persona series, no doubt about it, and it makes me rank both games higher than Persona 5, for example.

I'm still playing Strange Journey redux and you can get a tweak to reduce encounter number on the third dungeon, I think that helps with the absurd lenght

Never got encounter rate and dungeon length problem in Strange Journey (on DS at least). You have encounter lowering sub apps, most battles last 1-4 turns and the game almost never requires grinding. Teleporters sections are small.
Probably the only smt game where i wasn't fatigued with combat or dungeons. The only bad thing in the game in my opinion is final boss. You get to it in mid 50s levels, maybe at level 60 max, and it just nukes your party even with vitality build in 1 turn. And it does so until you get to like level 80 or something. They just stuffed all 10 hours of the grind in the last boss. My advice - don't bother - just download reflect all jack frost from the code and cave into the corner with defense command while waiting for the boss to kill itself in fight with lvl5 reflect jack frost. And combat not having a press turn system is a bit of a letdown i guess, but at least it flows fast. But yeah, fk final boss. If not for it, it would've been my favourite game.

I bought P5 for PS3 and have like 100 hours in it, but im not a guy that really can play games that long.. that said i still have to beat the final boss..
I also played a big chunk of Persona 2 and Persona 4 on Vita. I bought Persona 3 and only played it for an hour cause I was playing all these games at the same time. Persona 1 on Vita isnt that bad I just dont like to grind a lot for a boss.
I only recently am trying to buy all SMT games too (well not all but most of them where possible) im playing smt 3 on switch and had to grind a bit for the matador and spammed evasion buff on my team.
Only recently found out all these smt games are on the 3ds too and am waiting for discounts. I found smt digital devil second hand for like 80 euros, but then saw that on ps3 store you can get both for like 9 euros a piece.
What im saying is this series is really good and made me love turn based rpgs.

devil survivor overclocked, and record breaker are the first smt games i ever finished and i enjoyed them so much. never played persona 4 but i have played 3 on the psp but i didn't beat it. and i have royal but i didn't get that far i think, i got stuck on that boss fight in the ufo and just rage quit it. 😅
oh well, with my ps4 dead and no chance of me getting a ps5 soon. i'll just have to forget about p5, maybe i'll give p4 golden a try since it's on steam
Persona & SMT may not be my favorite series.. But there’s something about it that makes it addictive to play portably for me since P4G on Vita.. I really look forward to the upcoming Switch version of P5R
I like p3 over 4 and 5. The one thing I didn't like is where the story goes near the end game. It just didn't make sense. But I like the battles and how you set your teams AI strategy. I also like the musical style though I enjoyed P5's city theme.

I didn't like how the people fell into an online cult. Sure, for young people in that world, it would make sense, but older people? I know some will say "well look at what social media does" but the plot was designed around a world that didn't have social media like it would be a few years later.
Those digital devil saga are pure grind fest, I played both story is 8/10 if you take it in. But that grind kills you slowly .

@@sharebear421 No, it isn't. You don't need to grind in any of the SMT games except Devil Saga. In other SMT games, you change your demons if you struggle to kill a boss, maybe fuse new ones with skills to help you kill the boss. In the Devil Saga there's non of that. If you can't beat a boss the literally only thing to do is go back and grind. That's the difference.

So far the only SMT i've played was Persona 1 (PSP) and ended up with mixed feelings. Glad to know it only gets better from there.
Oh it gets way better from SMT Nocturne and onwards, persona and other spin-offs included. Even persona 2 makes improvements, though I highly recommend playing the dualogy on an emulator so you can just speed through encounters cause it’s still insanely high unfortunately. The story more than makes up for that I think.

You really should have played P5 Royal: although it seems logically impossible, P5 Royal makes perfection even more perfect. By the by, I am really looking forward for the PS5 releases of P3 Portable and P4 Golden next year, since I have never played any and, in my opinion, P5 Royal is the best videogame that has ever existed.

Devil Survivor is fighting for the spot of my best strategy rpg against Yggdra Union. After I am done with the latter(I finally played the psp version), I'll play Devil Survivor without free battle to make a proper difficulty review.
Persona 1 wasn't that bad. The map was horrible. Persona 1 for PSP is what corrected all the errors and it's my favorite.
Mainline games and SJR are far better than DDS and raido games
Persona 4 is better than 3 and 5
Strickers is bad
SMT 4 and $A are better than 5 and 3

yes..a lot...psp version is a downgraded pocket version of the ps2 version....i dont care that in the psp version you can play as a girl (since im a straight boy and i want my dating simulation to be with girls) because ps2 version (of course i mean FES) is way way better than the psp version so yeah...persona 3 FES forever
It's different but still cool.
You can now play as a girl with different social links, you can control your characters and other quality of life changes.
With that being said, the cutscenes have been removed and replaced with a visual novelesque approach and the extra campaign of The answer. Both are good in their own ways.
Love the series. Even my least favorite ones are still good.

I just finished SMT 3 and IDK, the dungeons pissed me off. Constantly warp, fall through map, it's so annoying i had to switch to easy mode lol. Glad I beat it and can finally go to SMT 5

i never played the raidou kuzunoh games but they look prety cool in terms of gameplay and specially the seting. wish they brougth back that series as well as other smt series i never played. i actually didnt play a lot of those games and i think it would be cool if they released more than just persona and smt. im happy they gonna release soul hackers 2

“Persona 3 Portable” is probably my favorite of the “Persona” sub-series of “SMT”. I just love the characters and story the best. BUT!!! Only if it is the “P3 Portable” edition with the revised combat. I also think “Devil Survivor” was AMAZING!!! But “Tokyo Mirage Sessions”, while not what we expected or maybe wanted, is a great JRPG that’s fun to play.

I'm surprised you put the 2 Devil Children games as the second worst in the franchise, given that on your previous list of the top 10 SMT games you put them at #10. I didn't count, but under your conditions of "No Persona games or spin-offs, only games that had North American releases" (and with the list preceding the release of SMT V) were there actually only 10 total SMT games that counted for that list at all so they got 10th best by default? Your list also seems to have changed a bit, you said Strange Journey Redux was better than SMT IV and the Digital Devil Saga games last time.
Also, the 3DS shop is about the close down, so at the last second I'm contemplating which games I should get before I miss out, most of which are MegaTen games. Devil Survivor 2 is a no-brainer since they have it at _90% off_ ($6), but I'm rather miffed to find that the original isn't even on the eshop in my region- even though we're technically the same region as the UK, Atlus didn't make the game available in Australia because fuck Australian gamers. Don't worry, we're used to it by now- this is how it's been for decades. We always get shitted on by game companies. I was planning on skipping Soul Hackers because apparently it just has too many old frustrating mechanics carried over from the really old games, but you recommend it so strongly (and it's also on sale) that I'll probably get it. Not sure about Strange Journey Redux though, it's NOT cheap and frankly sounds like it'd annoy me too much. Apocalypse is expensive too (almost twice as much as IV), but again, your recommendation may just sway me.

Bro did you even playthrough SMT5? Game has 2 dungeons, 4 areas, missed potential for a great story, 90% of the things in the story are just never mentioned/no significance/rushed/unearned development. Love the music, visual presentation, Nahobino's design, gameplay, shiva, demi fiend fights...... that's it. SMT5 is a good game but sadly not high dev focused on n possibly affected by covid-19 pandemic.

I think nocturne is too high but I understand it. I feel like the game is too dull and uninspiring. Plus as he said the dungeons are all bad not a single good one. It was tough for it’s time but my is it super easy nowadays unless you like taking more damage and missing everything in “harder” difficulty.

I love the Persona series, but I've never actually been able to finish P3. I literally just get bored and quit around October or so. I've had people tell me about all the awesome parts they really liked, but they're apparently all in the final hours of the game. I just felt the pacing was horrible. I'll force myself to finish it just so I can say I have though.

Highly recommend P3P over P3FES if you can find it. The female protagonist changes a lot and also creates a more impactful ending with one of the characters that I won't spoil.
Actually it ruins the entire point of the character to just be FemC's boyfriend instead of being a turning for two other characters (spoilers). It's purely fanservice.
While yes the female protagonist changes a lot of you're gonna play with the male MC you're gonna suffer with the much worse presentation that ruins a lot of emotional moments and you can just mod the game on PS2 or add a cheat on an emulator to control your party.
Neither is objectively better than the other and to get the full experience you actually have to play both (unless you don't have the time to).
