I watched this on my Tv, but you can’t comment on TV. So I searched this video on my IPad just to tell you that it was tremendous. This is the first comment I’ve ever made on a TH-cam video.
I always compared my running as rebooting a computer..... a reboot for my mind. My mind just goes quiet during a run, all I’m thinking about is breathing and pace.... and every once in a while, after I’ve grinded out several miles, and idea will surface, forged from all those miles of my feet hitting the pavement.
Runners high is a real thing! I've experienced it plenty of times. It's the feeling of blood pumping through your veins, your chest filling up with fresh air as you breathe in and out in sync with your footsteps on the ground, your entire body running in sync. You feel free in those moments.
Running with no music or headphones is the only way to run. Can’t tell me otherwise lol. It’s just so much better to run and be able to here your breathing, footsteps, nature, etc...
People who "can't run" without headphones are truly running from something. I personally alternate, but know I get the most out of runs when I allow my thoughts my full attention.
I recommend watching some movies of Billy Yang or Ginger Runner especially When Dreams Go To Die - way over an hour about guy running in the forests - zero regrets
Running was the only source of peace in my life. I was at peace for 7 years. When all the cartilage in my hips went away at the age of 47, I knew I would never find peace again. Sure, I got a new hip but the doctor told me that the only time I could ever run again was if I had to run from an explosion. I look at every runner with absolute envy. RUN while you can. Run.
Van's brother, Casey, still runs all the time even though he was told he could never run again by a doctor. I know of another person who whose knees are messed up and was told repeatadly by a doctor not to run. He continues to run - he is literally addicted to running.

people underestimate mike, he also said "everyone got a plan till they get punched in the mouth"
yes! I am realising that M.Tyson might somehow be the philosopher i need. Are there any more gems from Tyson like this?
@@dandan84 I think so you can check out some of his interviews with Joe Rogan he says some dumb shit he says some smart shit. I don't know if he's the philosopher anyone needs lol but sometimes he says some pretty smart shit
I love this more than I can say. Frustratingly funny and well made. looking strong.
Watches video
Wife: That’s it. Put you’re shoes on. We’re going for a walk.
Me: What?! I didn’t watch this to encourage you!
Wife: Let’s go!
I have watched every video of The Spirited Man like nothing else exist for that time. Always brilliant and profound.
Watched this the past two days to motivate myself to run. It's been working. Thank you Van
Van, you explained YOUR runners high. Your thought process, up and down the hill. Your brain is in a trance. And its good.
Your videos are like meditation to me; I come out of them feeling better, relaxed, grateful. Thank you Van.
Gosh. I hate much I LOVED this piece. Van, you are ridiculously good.
These movies are good for the soul, thank you Van.
I remember watching this as a 13 year old getting ready to go into my first cross country season. Oddly enough I fell in love with running now a junior in high school.
Outstanding, from a daily runner in Colorado. You captured so well how I feel about running. And I am 66....
Your last video about the TLC was great. Sad you took it down. You are probably the best TH-camr out there. At least for me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I don't think I have ever seen a TH-cam video and been this emotionally attached to it. I'm not a runner, but I *felt* this video. Incredible channel.
I watched your brother’s vid on running after this one... LOL. Fascinating! I am in the Van camp for sure!
“Mile 1, I feel horrible!” - “Mile 2, why why why” - “mile 3, only 1 left, I hate this” - “done, this is the best feeling, I am done”
Love the uphill leading camera and downhill following camera shot switch!
I ve got into running massively recently and I come back to this for motivation. Thank you!! ❤
4:12... the timing was beautiful. I might cry.
Excellent video, but I'd amend the quote: "Discipline is the POWER to do something that you hate as if you loved it."
Thank you, all videos about running say WE ALL LOVE TO RUN. I have been running for couple of years and still haven’t felt that...high...now I know, there won’t be any, just the feeling of an achevement, just the pain. Works for me now
I love running in the woods, running is the reason for my channel, I love running so much that I run ultra marathons. I am glad Casey pointed me here.
You are completely out of the norm for what I'm into, yet for some reason, I'm addicted to your content
How blessed to live with that sort of scenery and landscape within the running distance of where you live.
You've inspired me to change my sendentary lifestyle into one of meaning. Thank you, Van. For your perspective.
What i most like about running is that feeling of "now i cant rest" its done, the pain is going away.
during the ascend he kept the camera facing towards him showing his struggle and difficulties and at descend he shoots from the back showing us what he enjoys and experience in that run.Fabulous!!
You nailed it. Awesome short. I can't run any longer, my aging hip won that argument. Mahalo for sharing! : )
